Knew you would have that info! thanks. That's a whole lot of lift out of ONT for Brown. Much more than last year. Would love to see a year to year comparison of ONT during peak, I'm sure the growth is exponential

Great stuff, I enjoy following IFL. Brown's ramp up continues. On that note, National have three 747Fs on duty for UPS currently:
N702CA on SDF-ONT
N952CA on SDF-CGN
N936CA on PHL-ONT

Their CEO & Chair was interviewed by Aviation Week recently, link below which is behind a paywall. From snippets I've read elsewhere, he says that they could place another 10 747s if they could source, and are considering A330 (Fs or P2Fs unknown), 77W P2Fs and other alternatives for growth. They love the 747, citing 35,000 cycles and 160k hours.

https://aviationweek.com/air-transport/ ... irman-says

10 more 747s would be quite impressive. Of course, not sure where exactly they would source those. Their passenger A332 leads me to believe that the A330 might be in their cargo future as well, but their growth isn't stopping anytime soon.

On the 747 front for Purple, I can see four (yes, four!) 747s scheduled to ferry to MEM tonight under GTI 9*** call signs (three from MIA, one from CVG). I can't see the tail numbers yet, so I'm assuming that these are four different aircraft, for now, unless they are filing these ferries again under different callsigns. Lots of Atlas metal on purple duty if these 747s are added to the mix.

GTI tails are 429MC, 477MC, 473MC, 451PA, 499MC

Just spotted Western Global’s N781SN ferrying across the front range at 27000 feet as WGN9781 headed southeast.

Indeed! And, as predicted, to Shreveport she did go. Let's hope she escapes soon.

So, the world might be turning again, for both.

Seems FX must really love CDG as recent Europe build-up is very much centered around the Paris hub. Beyond the current expansion, only a few years ago in 2017, they committed to EUR200mil investment in new facilities.

This year not only have they added the new intra-Europe routes from CDG, they also increased the gauge on a bunch of existing routes. Additionally Atlantic capacity grew by 20% this year, plus additional intercontinental flights to Mideast/Asia from CDG.

For crews, last I heard the CGN flying is really CDG anyhow since CDG is not a formal domicile.

Then you also have Liege, but that is the remnants of TNT and FX has already trimmed that operation through a few rounds of cuts.

Some of those runs are the non- peak runs that that FedEx and Atlas went into agreement for earlier this fall

And I was curious as to the state of Atlas' 744 fleet so here's a little additional info/snapshot

HPRamper wrote:

429MC HKG-ANC-MEM 107390 hours, 16170 cycles as of May 2021
477MC MEM-SJU-MEM 91,400 hours, 16143 cycles as of June 2021
451PA SJU-MEM-HNL-ONT-MEM-SJU 82105 hours as of Sseptember 2020, 14,573 cycles as of July 2021 (no hours on last SDR, but probably right around 85,000 now)
450PA ICN-HKG-ANC-MEM-ICN 85308 hours, 14,560 cycles as of June 2021

So a quick look seems to indicate they're all pretty good to go for many more years of service, except N473MC which will be coming up on its 20,000 cycle rework pretty soon.

Interesting note regarding ATI's 757-200 Combis. There are 4 of them, N751CX through N754CX.

As regular followers will know, N753CX has been basically parked for like 9 months or more, due to the absence of military business for her due to COVID restrictions in some of the places that the Combi service was stopping. However, today she is back in service: off to Norfolk for some trip somewhere.

Also interesting: we don't usually see the 757 Combis making trips to Europe and Eastern Europe. The last couple of days, however, N751CX (the only Precision Conversion of the bunch), took a little sojourn WRI-BWI-RMS-UAB-RMS-PSM-... That may have necessitated activating N753CX to cover the balance of the business. Good to see things picking up for the world's only active 757-200 Combis. Could also be that other potential aircraft had been diverted by their masters into Peak service, so a Combi was all that was available...

Good to see that 753 is coming back into action. Guessing it’s going to be on the Guantanamo route from Norfolk today (if it’s able to leave ILN). Didn’t ATI deploy one of the combis to cargo-only service for a major cargo carrier (I can’t remember who) last year during peak? I could be wrong on my recollection of that, but I thought that was the case

Might have. Candidly, what 754CX has been doing the last couple of days looks a little DHL-ish.

IIRC there was a combi last year doing DHL work, IIRC subbing for a 734.

Then it looks like that's what 754CX is going to be doing. I checked the date that they parked 753CX at ILN; it was 2/14/21. So it's been sitting for 9.5 months. No surprise that it apparently had a teething issue today. 752CX, 753CX and 754CX all have Rollers, the only RB211s in ATSG's fleet, to my knowledge. 751CX has Pratts. (That's because the latter 3 came from National, which had converted them on spec in the hopes of taking over the Combi contract. ATI had ordered 4 Precision Conversion combis, and took delivery of 751CX before cancelling the Precision contract in favor of just taking the three PEMCO ones off of National's hands after ATI kept the military Combi contract.)

Did some digging back through our peak thread last year, and it seems like 752CX did indeed cover a DHL route last year. In fact, it was also covering CVG-DTW for one of the former ATI 757s that they operated for DHL at the time last year.

So it definitely seems like it is covering a DHL route again. Now that I look at it, it's probably filling in for SWQ592 CVG-DTW this year, which had been operated by N309GT, an iAero 737-400 in DHL colors. That frame seems to have been shifted to CVG-MCO for DHL

Pretty sure the 777Fs at Purple are confused, as the Golden God tailed 747Fs grow in number at MEM! Overall, at minimum there should be (7) Atlas 747Fs with FEDEX during peak. The recently contracted (2) for non-peak work and the contract that has been going on for years regarding a minimum of (5) 747F tails during the 4th Quarter.

For the rough and tumble boys of Aerotranscargo. ER-BBJ, The Upper Crust Society, Blue Blooded, only factory built freighter of the bunch, has been hauling from Kazakhstan to Hungary like it was going out of style. That operation continues to impress. They have those Queens running, have expanded their fleet and have a nice consistent footprint of operations now.

One jet I will be tracking this season is the Samaritan's Purse DC-8F. I know they have Oeration Christmas Child. Bringing gifts & necessities to children in need around the world.

Yes! As a kiwi in this industry I'm very familiar with these birds. NZ7571 & 7572, built for Transavia and converted to Combis for the RNZAF. Rolls powered, convertible configuration which can be all pax (for troop transport etc), VIP config (separate cabin up front and pax seating behind for staffers, media etc) for Prime Ministerial and royal duties etc, or a true combi of freight up front and pax behind. They operate to various theatres as you could imagine, including to/from Antarctica from CHC supporting the base down there.

Good to hear from you sir. Agree with everything you say on Aerotranscargo. All six machines in operation currently, working hard. They will be looking forward tot he arrival of the new birds who can't be far away from exiting HHN & CGK.

I honestly didn't think of the NZ military birds, but looking them up, they don't seem to be combis as much as having been retrofitted as convertibles, like the old DC8CFs -- you can do all freight, you can do half and half, you can do various full-pax interior configurations. Can't do that with the Combis -- their STC is for them to be what they are, period. But the NZ birds definitely should be included in any discussion like this about the world's fleet of unconventional 757s.

I think that's right, at least my understanding from having seen them up close but only externally.

I didn't know about the ATI true combis until learning about them from your commentary on this board. It continues to be really enjoyable, and I hope it continues in one way or another in 2022.

Alta Airlines Holdings has registered a 757-200(PCF) as N511KW 30 November 2021; the aircraft have a tendency to go to Eastern Airlines (particularly with the KW registration). Has Eastern announced any intention to add 757 freighters?

Could you post a link to where you got this info? Skyliner and a quick google search turn up nothing. I'd be interested to know which aircraft in particular this was (especially if it was that ex-eastern 757-225F that just ferried in across the pacific, would be a funny tie up of Eastern operating an aircraft with an Eastern customer code)

FAA registry : N search (without the "N") : https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquir ... mberResult
The aircraft is C/N 22611, 757-225PCF, former VH-PQA, now : ALTA AIRLINES HOLDINGS LLC

Alta also bought (not yet converted) N938UW and N201UU last month.

Don't the RNZAF operate a pair of active 757-200 Combi aircraft?

They've been doing a few return trips between Whenuapai and Port Moresby over the past couple of weeks. Long route for a day return.

For those who don't know, there was somewhat of a political scandal in 2008 or about the conversion and the costs of it. Conversation work was done by ST Aero and the government essentially underwrote the cost of the STC. The bill came to quite a bit more than the quoted contract value.

Would have been very quick to verify the information on the FAA website, Planespotters.net has also picked it up pretty quickly.

Yeah, but even quicker if the source was indicated (as per a.net rules). Doesn't really matter now though.

For what it's worth, I feel like these kind of nannying, superior comments have no place in this thread. We don't do it to each other in here. We also don't do the obnoxious "Source?!" nonsense that you see elsewhere. Maybe I read into it a tone that wasn't intended...

A more-polite way of doing it would just be to say that one saw it first on the FAA website, and then were pleased to see that Planespotters also now has it. Done. Doesn't put anybody down. Just shares the info in a welcoming way.

BTW, not a lot of people routinely check the FAA web site, but it's a good source for what it contains, so I appreciate you reminding us of its existence and convenience as a source. (And it's been spiffed up a few months ago!) Usually, MO11 has the info before it shows up there, which is why I call him the Oracle. Spacepope, by the way, is a whiz with the SDR feature, and gets us lots of good stuff off of there, but it's hardly his responsibility to check all possibilities before asking a question.

A very sad case for these two very young A330-243 heading for scrapping apparently two days ago. Both were delivered brand new, flew slightly over 7 years only. Wasn't there a rumour both will be converted? I must have gotten it wrong. I am afraid those ex-Avianca airframes will eventually meet the same fate.

Both caught arriving here at ZRH to clear customs before their last take-off to LDE.

Honestly I thought those were the ex SQ birds that were being converted. Those were rumored to be seven years old or newer. If those birds are worth more in scrap money, then yes I can see them being scrapped. Especially if corrosion or there are problems. However if they do have nothing wrong then they will probably be converted. From my research it's a whole bunch of technical stuff involved when it comes to converting passenger frames to cargo. Maybe somebody can elaborate on this.

Thank you, one of the big reasons I always check this thread is that it has great discussions with a lot of information presented with all of us being quite civil, not high school cafeteria stuff. So instead of saying "LOOK IT UP", a "I find the FAA site <LINK> quite handy for this." is much better.

Is there any hope that they're not being scrapped? Several of the 767-300s that ultimately were converted for Amazon by Atlas's leasing company spent a fair spell at LDE before heading for conversion, so it's not only for scrappin'; it's sometimes for storage!

Nowadays I don’t take any claim of scrapping seriously, whether from the much lauded Planespotters website or anywhere else, without actually seeing the aircraft begin parting out. Even Skyliner tends to jump the gun on this often. Instead we sit back and wait, and hope to see updated spotter photos get uploaded from boneyard jaunts.

My message certainly wasn't intended to put anyone down, be nannying or be superior - purely meant that if the user wanted to check a USA registration that the FAA site would be the go to place... but thank you for making me feel bad. I'll refrain from posting again, to prevent any further misunderstandings or upset.

Nowadays, it takes the FAA upwards of 60 days to process a registration application (unless you pay a company to push it through). If an airplane has to fly internationally, then you have to pay the price; otherwise it can fly on a temporary.

Then I'm the jerk. In an effort to have one member not be made to feel bad, I ended up making another member feel bad, because I misinterpreted his intent. You have my deepest apologies, sir, and I'll try harder to imagine people speaking in a nice tone, when it seems at first blush that a post isn't intended that way. Again, I'm sorry, and I certainly don't want you to be dissuaded from participating.

Some nice pics of N512JN of WGN from the ground (https://www.instagram.com/p/CW8yeewlHhJ ... _copy_link). No surprise that it went tech at HSV for a little over two days but back in the air now from Anchorage to Incheon and plugging away yet again (notably, after 14 hours, presumably a crew overnight, this time in Anchorage)

According to the system bid at FX, looks like lots of growth in the future there, including sub 1 year captains. Rumor is 1500 more pilots hired in the next 24 months plus significant attrition.

Just talked to a guy in the flight training department who said they are losing hundreds of pilots a year to retirement right now. Related I'm sure to the flight crew shortages across the system resulting in canceled flights. Not surprised they are trying to load up on pilots.

Lovely read - thank you for sharing. Seems like a good solution for the remote network that the airline serves. I wonder how popular the conversion will be with other operators.

A couple of WGN ships have escaped the Shreveport hangar! N344KD after more than two months in maintenance is enroute to ICN, just in time for some of the peak.
And newly minted MD11 781SN is off to RSW to join 452SN and hopefully for revenue service soon.

What are the bets on how many days these birds fly before more maintenance issues? I hate I have to ask that question (or joke?).

Aerostan's 747-200F fleet is winging their way through the Peak. As of late, both P&W airframes have been working for a living.

EX-47001: The 34+ year old has been with the carrier for a little over a year now. As of late, Karachi, Macau, Chengdu, Moscow, Bishkek and Sharjah are its ports of call.

EX-47002: The elder statesman of the two 747Fs at 37+ years of age. The young bird has recently been in Caracas, Mexico City, Port of Spain, Espargos, Jeddah, Cairo, Casablanca and Bishek. Is it me or does this ship get more of the Central and South America routes?

Less we not forget, the most senior member of the tribe...

EX-30002: An A300F, who answers the bell at 40+ years old. Haven't seen as much of her but was last seen in Bangladesh in early November.
