I don't remember sending a memo to Amerijet saying it was time to end DC-8F service. Did somebody else make that mistake?!?! I certainly hope not. The A321Fs have been plugging along via lease but permanent 757 fleet members are beginning to arrive soon. Could be the 757s Amerijet bought will have the DC-8F cooling its heels in the desert.
Wish I was a younger man, going through training back in AZ again. Would be a good time to grab a tail and head up to the IGM area of AZ to do some maneuvers and perform aerial reconnaissance of the Diesel 8 for the group here.

I thought I saw a twitter post that one of these birds had the nickname Adam, father of all DC-10s. True?

N550FE, the one that was just retired.

Yeah, but that really doesn't answer the question on who is taking it.

Some more great news for the venerable 747-400.
Former Korean Air Cargo HL7482, 747-400BCF is currently inbound to San Bernardino for some heavy maintenance before return to service
She has been at Marana since 2013, which is a truly amazing time span for her to come back to life
Any ideas on who the takers are? , possibly national or western global, although for her sake I hope it's the former.

This could be for anybody else: Longtail, etc. Doubtful National, either, but we'll see.

Skyliner is of the opinion it is headed to 21 Air. *shrugs*

It is what Planespotters.net is reporting also.

Well, it's actually not an ATSG-owned-or-operated aircraft. It is the prototype, now going into service with its owner, for the A321 Precision Conversion, which is a joint venture between ATSG and Precision. So ATSG financed the development of the STC by Precision, and shares in the profits from the conversion kits. ATSG's PEMCO will now start doing the touch work on future conversions (the prototype was done elsewhere). In the future, ATSG's CAM will probably buy some and lease them out. And maybe an ATSG carrier ultimatately may operate some on a CMI basis for lessees. But for the moment, ATSG is only on the MRO/conversion-kit/STC side of things, not the owner/operator side of things.
Hope that helps.

Was N865F not donated to the Yankee Air Museum in 2012 ?

QR is looking to potentially buy 30 brand new 777XF aircraft. This is being discussed elsewhere but I wanted to bring it here for our purview.
This potential launch order would lay the foundation of the next "King" of long haul cargo. Deep pocketed Airlines would buy it, freeing up their fleets of 747Fs and 777Fs for Second and Third Tier operators. The fact that we are discussing a launch order today, means that the "trickle down" effect won't occur for at least 3-5 years.....In the interim, if you don't have the money for a 777-300ERSF, you better find a 747-200F or some magically hidden 747-400F if you want to get in the game, grow your fleet or replace another piece of equipment.
All of the "delay" to a certain degree will help everything and anything that is available right now. If you can't get what you "want", then you grab what you can "have" at certain times. We see this with 737 conversions right now. 737NG P2F production is going gangbusters. Folks not able to get in the door are therefore grabbing 737 "Classics" and 757s.

All true but some of the current high demand for air cargo comes from lack of belly space running right into demand for PPE and vaccines, and some amount of correction will happen over the next 12-24 months. I think a lot of the older aircraft that came out of the desert will go back and get replaced by newer conversions since we are still seeing 787s and A350s with lots of belly space being made at significant rates.

This would tie the company's growth for that size aircraft at the delivery schedule of the 777-300ERSF, or the proposed 777XF or A350F. That's a long time to "run what you brung" but again demonstrates the utter importance to worldwide cargo of the 747F fleet for the next 5-7 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargolux#Fleet says they have 10 744F, 6 744ERF and 14 748F. Oldest one I found is approaching 22 years ( https://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b747-29731.htm ). Since they are a general freight carrier, are they likely to "step down" to a 77WF conversion? At first blush it seems more likely to me they will wait for 77XF. They actually have the 748F prototype in their fleet according to my wiki link. It will be interesting to watch, IMO.
