Saw on SAT Facebook and Twitter new service announcement on Monday at 6 am! Any guesses on which airline or what city it could be ?!

6 am? I think Spirit or even JetBlue. Breeze seems like a stretch.

Before people start going crazy on Breeze speculation, Breeze is not making announcements anytime soon. They're not even fully approved by the FAA. Have some patience. Also, I suspect that Breeze will say that they have an announcement before individual airports start saying anything.

Spirit seems to be a good guess. Maybe even SAT-RSW on WN or could see G4 expansion

I think B6 is going to remember the Alamo.

WN updates their schedules on Thursdays. G4 just did adds last week, although I guess they could do adds that close together but it seems odd they would do that.

6 am time is really throwing me off. Unless it’s a legacy that runs it’s update overnight or something. Still odd.

EDIT: I didn’t realize how little ULCC service SAT has. Spirit would make sense.

I imagine NK to FLL/MCO/LAS. Maybe TPA and DTW too.

Technically wouldn’t be new service if it’s Spirit. Spirit served SAT from FLL in 2008 for maybe 8-9 months. I definitely see NK resuming service. I think N292UX is spot on with the city choices if it is NK.

AS new nonstops to SAN and PDX. Wishful thinking.

Well if we’re basing it off days, B6 is Thursday.

I would imagine this has to be a Mexican cattier if announcement is Monday.

SAT has been wanting a BOS flight for a while now so B6 could be a possibility although the current business climate doesn't seem to warrant such service.
Perhaps a Mexican carrier to SJD or PVR?

With the new international travel restrictions rolling out, I suppose there's a lower chance of this being a new international flight, specifically to Mexico.

However, does SAT not have a flight to Cancun? Is SAT mainly VFR traffic to MEX/MTY/GDL?

There are currently zero nonstop flights between SAT and LAX. Too many people are either driving to AUS to catch a nonstop or canceling their trips.

Four airlines used to serve the route pre-covid with a total of 9 daily flights - AA (3), DL (2), UA (2) and WN (2).

Alaska already serves the station therefore, it’s relatively easy to add one or two flights. LAX-SAT has gone from 9 daily flights (pre-covid) to zero currently. The market seems incredibly neglected.

SAT-NYC seems to also be neglected (gone from four daily to zero now). SAT-JFK, SAT-LAX, SAT-FLL and SAT-BOS would also be good possibilities on B6.

I think there’s a need for at least one or two SAT-LAX. It could be a great opportunity for AS or B6 to jump in - Especially for AS.

Wow, I didn't realize that SAT had lost all nonstop service to both LAX AND NYC. Unfortunately, San Antonians seem all too willing to drive to AUS to chase the lower fares or connect through Dallas or Houston. San Antonio's air service has always been incredibly limited for a city its size and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I would not be surprised to see JSX do an SAT to MTY flight. We live in The Woodlands and there are a lot of well-off Mexican business owners moving here and elsewhere within Texas with their families for safety and other reasons but continue to run their businesses back in Mexico. We know one couple from Mexico living here the husband just commutes back and forth between here at Mexico.

I could see AS adding LAX-SAT or SAN-SAT. PDX-SAT with an E175 would be a long shot, but not out of the question IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised to see G4 or F9 try a handful of O&D routes as well.

If it is indeed a new airline, then it's likely that NK or B6 are entering the market. JSX was mentioned here but there is no official source for that yet.

Keep in mind pre-COVID LAX-SAT saw anywhere from 5-7 daily frequencies from AA, UA, DL, and WN.

And on another note I struggle to believe AS would add LAX-SAT in the near term considering they just recently announced LAX-AUS and have yet to operate the route.

They never said they were holding a press conference, they simply said they had an announcement.

Given there doesn't appear to be a press conference, I don't see why it matters if it is at 6AM SAT time. A lot of route announcements occur at 8AM eastern time, which is 5AM on the west coast.

I don't see AS as the obvious carrier on LAX-SAT. Do they have a lot of unused time on the E75s? SAN-SAT? That seems pretty remote.

I believe this will be the first time DL has operated the route with mainline equipment. As far as I know, it's always been E-175's.

If WN were to add new nonstop routes out of SAT, WN adding SAT-BOS/CLE/IND/ORF/PDX/RDU/SMF nonstop service might be possibilities with BOS, CLE, IND, ORF, PDX, RDU, and SMF being top destinations not currently served nonstop from SAT (based on pre-pandemic PDEWs). However, I probably do not expect WN to be adding these routes until demand to these places are back to pre-pandemic levels with demand to these places from SAT being significantly down from pre-pandemic levels.

If a legacy carrier were to add new routes out of SAT, DL adding SAT-BOS/SEA nonstop service are possibilities with (a) the lack of SAT-BOS nonstop service being a big hole prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, (b) DL having hubs at BOS and SEA, and (c) DL having added nonstop service out of SEA to some other destinations that AS serves nonstop from SEA prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who knows what routes JSX might serve but Viva Aerobus added MTY-SAT after Interjet stopped service and VB has the route pretty well covered at this point.

AS has cut back their Mexico flying due to new rules on Covid testing. They said they'd be deploying those aircraft on domestic routes. My bet is on AS to LAX...I'm shocked that there's no n/s service!

DL will be resuming LAX-SAT 1x/daily on March 2nd. I'm surprised that WN isn't currently flying this route.
