Iran Air's intended purchase of Boeing planes was never firmed, so as things stand today, there are no Boeing orders to be delivered.

They may be a good candidate for MAX white trails as aircraft that can be had during a very short political window.

They are just starting indirect talks through intermediaries - a resolution to the disagreement is nowhere close, so deliveries this summer would be unlikely at best. If things eventually do open up, I'd expect changes to the original order - maybe replacing 77W's with 779's and/or swapping out for 787's of various models (9's and 10's)

Unlikely. The 779 isn’t available until after the next US election.

This is risky for Iran, whatever the Biden administrations position is - I know this borders on a political post, but it has relevance here...

If the Republican stance doesn't change with regard to Iran, then the next Republican President or the next time the Republicans control the Senate, they can block spare parts sales to Iran and there goes a nice fleet, because it will be near to impossible for them to sell that fleet on without the buyer also running foul of US restrictions.

So Iran may get some planes delivered in the next 4 years, but they might not be able to use them after that.

Iran Air was able to use many old Boeing 747's for a long time without direct access to spare parts for many years.

Why did Iran not talk to Russia about the Sukhoi SSJ ? My understanding is the problem was the lack of a support network.... if Iran bought enough planes then presumably Sukhoi would be motivated to add proper support in Iran

The current SSJ has US parts & tech.

They would need new airplanes and they have the money. But this is a political topic way above aviation. Embargos, traffic rights, threats, proliferation, dual use.
Things look even like having turned to worse over the years. It would make sense but I don't see it happening.

Didn't Iran manage to operate a fleet of Boeing planes, using their own parts and maintenance capabilities, for a long time during sanctions? After all that included 707s that hadn't even been produced for decades.

Modern planes come with an integral "hookup" to the manufacturer.

On the current schedule. (Assuming no more delays) then it is available before the next election. EIS is late 2023 let’s say Q1 2024. Election is Nov 2024. They can give them early delivery slots. I’m sure some airlines won’t mind switching

Iran air actually wants their 80 jets. They’re urging Boeing to fulfil the order.

Boeing says they’re following US administration on this.

Speaking of maintenance, how is IR doing with the A330s that they already have?

Just bringing an update on this.

Apparently the Iranian transport minister says Boeing and Airbus are now working on bringing the contracts that were signed back to life and are waiting for the conclusion of the Vienna talks which if you don’t know have been going well and will soon come to a conclusion
