Malta air have their own call sign, BlueMed. They don’t use it? I have noticed the Malta air flights all show with RYR callsigns in fr24, but didn’t know if that was a platform specific thing.

Malta Air callsign BLUE MED is not used indeed, the same applies to Lauda Europe callsign BEAUFORT. Both airlines only operate under the RYANAIR callsign. Buzz callsign MAGIC SUN is used during the summer on charter flights to/from Poland, all other flights are operated under RYANAIR callsign. Ryanair UK callsign BLUEMAX is used on UK-non EU routes, but recently also on selected UK-EU routes.

Regarding the liveries, the first six Malta Air 737-8200’s were delivered in Malta Air colors, probably just for fun and to keep everybody happy. All other deliveries will be in Ryanair livery. The same applies to the Buzz 737-8200’s.

So far they’re limited to selected bases, but they aren’t on dedicated routes from those bases. Currently the bases with some 737-8200’s are:
Ryanair: STN
Buzz: KRK and WMI
Malta Air: BGY and BLQ

The Malta Air livery is part of the venture with the government of Malta? I think 6 or 10 were specifically mentioned in the press release, depending on how you interpret it.
I’m quite keen on the Buzz livery. I think it’s quite fun, reflects some of the history of Ryanair.

Do you have a source for that?
According to a livery list 6 upcoming Malta Air aircraft will have the Ryanair livery. But does that mean, that all 9H future aircraft will have the FR livery?

Completely out of topic, but, does Ryanair apply some sort of "general seniority list" for both Pilots and Cabin Crews ranking their years of service?

Does Ryanair have pilots or FA with more than 30 years of service?

Ryanair's recovery from the Covid-19 collapse in air travel has continued, but the airline still expects a heavy loss for the year.
The airline has narrowed losses in the past few months, but warned its annual deficit could hit €200m (£170m).

No thank god . Seniority is toxic and has killed many great airlines . That’s why the USA has third world airline service

Ryanair to pull out of the London Stock Exchange and list only in Dublin and Brussels within 6 months, dixit MOL
The airline blames the move on Brexit, which forces it to delist from London in 2022 under foreign ownership rules.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... ium-europe

MOL said: “We’ve already removed voting rights from all non-EU shareholders post-Brexit, so we’re sure to be 100% EU-controlled. About 45% of our shares are held in America. We need to ensure the balance is held by EU nationals – that means, unfortunately, discouraging UK shareholders so increasingly we will want to have just European shareholders rather than UK shareholders.”

Not only the USA, most legacy airlines have too high wage costs due to seniority programs. Ryanair likes to replace their staff before they achieve that level.

It's generally known that Ryanair pays like shit, however there's never a shortage of people willing to work for them. They're inexperienced people, straight from school, who don't get hired anywhere else due to lack of experience. At Ryanair they can build up that experience so they work there for a couple of years. And then when they got that experience they move on to another airline, their place at Ryanair is being taken by new staff members willing to build up experience. Nobody works with Ryanair for more than 5 years or so, it seems 3 years is average.

Well not quite true, the Irish based pilots stayed around for obvious reasons, it's not so much the pay as they keep moving people around. If you're stable at home base, people often stay.
BTW what do you do for a living? I mean suggesting that others have "too high wage" isn't sporting now is it?

I'm a warehouse employee, not aviation related. I get paid a decent wage but certainly not too much, I realize that I do a job everyone can do so I can't be too demanding. Otherwise I get replaced. I don't take my job for granted, nobody should.

In other words.... anyone know how long could have been serving Ryanair the pilot/FA with the most seniority at the airline? There must be people from the 90's still there. It's a huge company, for sure there should be some still around, probably in Ireland or the UK.

The route AGA<>TFS is for 5€ on every date between today and January 4.

Looks like the demand is very low and the route might be cancelled soon. Or interrupted for some time.

Actually it's mainly for Tenerife inhabitants who want to fly to Agadir and maybe travel further. Moroccans don't get a visa for the Schengen area easily

It's early days , with a bit of marketing lots of tourists will add a sidetrip or split their holidays plus there to be lots of Moroccans in the Canaries irrespective of the visa situation.

According to Tripset only fully vaccinated Moroccans are allowed to enter Spain. Does Ryanair do marketing for specific routes? Usually the new connected airports make a Facebook post about it and that's all the marketing. I estimate the vast majority of Ryanair passengers books a simple roundtrip ticket.

I say that route will be either cancelled or interrupted within the next 3 months. Ryanair wants to reduce its anticipated losses.

It looks like Ryanair conquers the Swedish market.

A new route from Stansted to Örebro. Which is just 100km away from the Stockholm Västerås airport.

Ryanair serves now 9 Swedish airports.

And there are 5 domestic routes from Arlanda.

The country of Greta seems to like it ..

Ryanair is now more premium than Condor.

At Condor only this small hand luggage is included:
10cm( ! )x30cmx40cm

While Ryanair includes 40x25x20cm. The Ryanair sizer actually is 42x30x20.

Ryanair announce new Madeira base.

Tue Nov 23, 2021 12:37 pm

Eddy Wilson, president of Ryanair, has just announced the ten destinations that will be linked to Funchal with travel at 29.99 euros per flight. From summer 2022.

At the press conference at Madeira airport to announce the entry of the low cost airline, the official announced connections to Marseille, Manchester, London Stansted, Milan Bergamo, Brussels, Dublin, Nuremberg, Paris Beauvais. This in addition to Lisbon and Porto. 42 weekly frequencies.

This should see fares decrease significantly. TAP Portugal had traditionally a monopoly on flights from here. This was quickly eroded, with the entrance of Easyjet, Transavia etc, however fares can be astronomical, especially at busy periods. At certain times it's cheaper to fly Lisboa - Sao Paulo (8hr flight) than Lisboa - Madeira (2hr).

Ryanair has notoriously avoided Madeira, due to the 'high' airport fees charged. However it seems the regional government has intervened, being fed up of complaints from locals at the extremely high cost of flying to the national capital. They made a request with airport controller ANA to reduce the fees.
I'm sure Ryanair has also benefited from a new route subsidy/discount. Lets hope MOL doesn't start the 'dirty tricks' to have his way at the airport.

Not sure what the demand is like from Marseille and Nuremberg to Madeira. I'm sure the frequencies will only be 2/3 weekly. Bet this was thrown in to make the presentation grander.
The main focus will be domestic flights which I assume will be at least double daily to begin with.

TAP has already announced that they will respond to FR's entry in the islands. TAP flew up to 12 times daily pre-pandemic.

As soon as I posted the question I found out the answer:
https://www.dnoticias.pt/2021/11/23/286 ... a-madeira/

Ryanair will open 10 destinations out of Madeira, including 2 domestic routes, as seen in the image in the link above. They estimate to increase traffic numbers by 500k pax p/a, which is massive for the small airport in the Portuguese island.

Tricky place. Sometimes the airport is closed for days. While TP can deploy a339 what will FR do? Also Island bases are not too good for travelers since departures are in the morning and arrivals midday or even later. Or I am missing something?

If Easyjet and Transavia can manage, then I assume Ryanair will be able to do the same. Having that said, the most likely scenario is that the passenger will either have its ticket reimbursed or be able to reschedule it for future flights, which could be days/weeks away.

I sample checked some of the flights in their website. Lisbon and Porto have great times for locals or business travellers, the European destinations are usually around noon or later. Nuremberg and Brussels are examples where the flight departures at 6.00/6.30 AM from Madeira, but I see 25 EUR fares both ways for this route, I think an extra hotel night is no biggie.

they fly there but have they a base there? With all consequences of planes forced to be on the ground for several days?

So it looks like the Regional government are "contributing" to Ryanair's operation (possibly in the form of offsetting the high airport taxes), as long as they maintain the 10 routes for the next 4 years!

As mentioned in Publico newspaper:

"And finally, 18 years after making its debut in Portugal, the aircraft carrier for low cost flights will arrive at the largest Portuguese airport that it still needed, Funchal, which will be a new operational base for the company as of March. Ryanair starts with ten routes, with five new direct destinations and 40 weekly flights, highlighting connections to Lisbon, with two daily flights, and Porto, with one daily flight.

Madeira thus becomes the company's fifth base in Portugal, after Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Ponta Delgada.

A project that had already been underway for “a long time”, as said by the Minister of Economy, Siza Vieira, cited by Lusa. For the official, the arrival of Ryanair represents a “significant investment” by the Government to ensure the “improvement of air connectivity and accessibility” to the archipelago, noting that there are over 189 thousand seats per year on domestic connections.

Without revealing details of the agreement with Ryanair, he indicated that it's valid for four years and requires the company to maintain the ten routes during this period."

Why does it always take the entry of an LCC to force Flag Carriers to improve their domestic services.

Because until that happens and lack of competition exists. The Flag Carriers don't have any particular reason to do so, unless they want to and it looks like TAP didn't really want to or have to. Now FR is coming in, they have a reason to protect, they aren't necessarily going to reduce pricing to match, so what's the next best thing. Improve Service levels, leave and arrive with plenty of options compared to that of the LCC.

More cheap tourists on Madeira? Neither the hotels nor the infrastructure can cope with that - and to be honest, the island doesn't deserve it either! Please, no second Mallorca or Ibiza, with marauding booze tourists!

Why does it always take the entry of an LCC to force Flag Carriers to improve their domestic services.

Dude, are you new to this? High yields, low service costs and minimal costs of expansion are primary goals of entrenched carriers.

If the local Govt in Madeira decides to make it very easy for bars to open up and sell beer 24/7 or gives out lots of permits for budget hotels to be built... then Madeira will indeed end up like Magaluf. If the local Govt decides not to allow this, then Madeira will not attract the marauding booze tourists
There are however plenty of people in Europe who have money and would potentially visit Madeira... but when going on holiday prefer to spend their cash on a few good meals, instead of a slightly nicer ambience in an aluminium tube

The boozing tourists have already been spotted in Madeira. October least year with most of the holiday hot spots (Canaries, mainland Spain, Greece, Turkey) being locked-down and/or denying entry to various northern European nations (UK etc), the 'boozy crowd' found Madeira to be their only shot at winter sun. On the most part everyone was relieved to have a bit of normality. Tourism dependant locals welcomed the new arrivals, the new arrivals glad of the late summer sun.

The regional gov have always stated that they do not want to target the lower end of the mass market, the focus has always been on the mid-high end sectors.
As stated above the main reason for the assistance in attracting FR is because of the crazy fares practiced by TP + U2 on the domestic routes.
