April’s fool: Airline edition

Wed Mar 31, 2021 6:10 pm

Mods, please keep this thread for fun.

I will start with Emirates April’s fool post.

Emirates will be launching a special wedding service for those who would like to tie the knot at 40,000 feet.

I like ones like that because it sounds like something they would legitimately do. A lot of companies' April Fools Day pranks are so far-fetched you know that they're obviously jokes.

It will be interesting to see how much April Fools Day humor shows up on social media this year with the pandemic that caused most to skip last year making a comeback.

I didn’t necessarily mean funny “ha ha.” I meant more funny in the grand scheme of things in relation to April fools. But I will say you’re not wrong on my sense of humor. I’ve been told that before. My humor tends to be lean dark, but I digress.

Nah, his humor's fine. The gaff is kinda lame. It's neither amusing nor cleaver. April Fool's gags usually have some degree of hilarity.

Someone posted Sri Lankan was going to try to be the next Emirates. The mods didn't lock the thread for like 36 posts, and few realized that it must be April 1 where the thread-starter was. Pretty good joke that fooled a lot of folks.

It's gone now, though I did manage to save the route network I proposed for their EK-ish ambition.....

Thanks for your contribution. You almost had me believing it's not "April Fool's Day."

A good April Fool's joke isn't so much funny as crazy but just barely believable. Then when it's revealed as actually a joke you slap you head and say how could I be so gullible?

(BTW, did you hear that they removed the word "gullible" from the dictionary?)

Big merger announcement, the AA DL UA to become one airline. The big 3 to become to Delta airlines, the world's best airline providing the best airline experience in the world. From our sublime seating, best hubs in PHX and DTW, and mediocre service since we don't have competition. Delta airlines will consult the anet forums for fleet decisions and network planning.

Legacy airlines will resume printing timetables and post cards, giving out decks of playing cards and free flight bags, allowing smoking inflight, meal service (even on a one hour flight), open overhead bins, pillows and blankets, captains coming out inflight to greet passengers, notifying passengers when flying over places like the Grand Canyon, operating multi-stop flights and permitting passengers to deplane while putting a Seat Occupied card on their seat, ... Please add to this list!

BFL-MDW x3
BFL-LAS x5
BFL-PHX x5
BFL-SAN x3
BFL-BNA x3 (the country music express)
BFL-BWI x2

In response, UA and AA have announced a major expansion:

BFL-DEN x6
BFL-SFO x4
BFL-ORD x4
BFL-EWR x3
BFL-IAH x4

BFL-DFW x4
BFL-ORD x4
BFL-MIA x2
BFL-CLT x3

Delta begins new service as well:

BFL-SLC x4
BFL-MSP x3
BFL-DTW x3

BFL-ATL x4

Mexicana returns!

BFL-GDL x3
BFL-MEX x3

I know, not very good, but if you're going for an April Fool's joke, go big!

Sun Country decides to go big at JFK, using the currently abandoned Delta Terminal 2, they will be launching several flights daily to MSP/LAS/MCO/SJU/LAX. The Minneapolis-based airline sees a lot of potential in using those five underserved markets from JFK.

In other news, Jetblue finally leaves the Marine Air Terminal and joins AA in the central terminal, while Spirit and Southwest adds LGA-LAS service on the weekends.
