Highly infectious new Coronavirus variant primarily affecting Airliners

Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:32 pm

This morning, the BBC and CNN are both reporting on a highly infectious new Coronavirus variant that has primarily affected Airliners. The new strain, dubbed B.752 (currently being referred to as the "Detriot variant"), is likely to pose a major risk to Airliners in the coming year. Researchers say the strain is not more deadly, but it is far more irritating.

Signs and symptoms of the new variant include excessive discussion related to the Detroit Airport, repeatedly questioning United's flight scheduling decisions, and of particular concern, increased anxiety over a true 757 replacement. It is unclear if the MCAS system on board the 737 MAX is to blame, although investigations are continuing.

Airliners is currently in contact with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and we may be forced to implement lockdown measures if the variant worsens. For mitigation, we recommend that you please cover your screen with a thick layer hand sanitizing gel prior to posting. Please check the CDC's website to see if your computer is eligible to be vaccinated.

On a more serious note, we realize that you (like many of us) have had a difficult year. Of course this was, like last year, yet another shamelessly poor attempt at humor on my part. Please be kind to users engaging in April Fools posts today — the past year has affected us all in different ways, and some of us need these moments more than others. April Fools is a universal day of being stupid, which is a point I have perfectly demonstrated with this post. These discussions may "ruin" the board for one day, but like always, we'll clean everything up later. Please don't take these moments away from someone else with cynicism or snark. We're all part of this community for the same reason, so let's just remember that despite our differences, we all share common interests. We need these moments to feel normal, as "normal" for some seems very far away.

Do not forget continued insistence that Southwest is about to order the A220!

Not DTW... Detroit City, because everybody knows that DTW is in cahoots with Delta. Just like everybody knows that WN lost the plot when it stopped adding secondary/boonie airports and started flying to SFO, DEN, and BOS.

This is amusing coming from a moderator. It's good to see that y'all find certain users as annoying as the rest of us do.

You might need to go get tested for the new A.IRL.IN.ERS coronavirus variant!

Don't tell my wife about me having too much extra time on my hands, because she'll put me to work. Don't tell her I'm a kid either, she'll just laugh at you. Or me. Probably both.

Maybe. I already got my shot, but I'm fairly certain I lose my immunity when I logon to the forum.

All joking aside, most of us who use this forum realize that being a moderator here is almost as unpleasant as having to clean the grounds of an off leash dog park without wearing gloves on a hot summer day.....and for similar reasons. Thank you for working so hard to make this website an enjoyable break from work not just on April 1, but every day of the year.

Hey actsundevil,

Do you know when United is updating their schedule for the summer? How about when will the painting of the fleet pick up pace?

Jokes aside, I appreciate the humor in this thread. Happy AFD.

Other symptoms of the B.752 strain include frequent debates on whether narrowbodies are comfortable for TATL flights, suggestions that Delta acquire aircraft other airlines retired, and B737 vs A320 wars.

The B.752 strain was first detected around 2005, when Boeing decided to end 757 production and Northwest was still flying DC9's with no retirement plans.

I'm still convinced Northwest is still flying the DC9, I just can't prove it.

Big News Conference in DTW today. Stephen Wolf just announced that he is resurrecting North Central Airlines. A reporter asked him where he was going to find a bunch of DC9's. Another Reporter asked him why he wanted to bring back a familiar airline with a Pandemic still going on. He ducked the question.

Speaking of "Detroit City", great song by the Scottish band Texas:

Although parts of this are funny, over 500K people in the US alone have died from COVID. Not sure that was the best way to get at the funnier aspects of the post.

The thread was not meant to be taken seriously, up to and including the title itself. I was not intending to be insensitive to people who have gotten sick (myself included, along with numerous family members) or died (including a close friend of mine), my only intention was to find a way to grab some attention and provide a short laugh and/or eye roll. Having worked in stressful jobs for my entire adult life, I'm perhaps a bit more used to gallows humor than some, so I recognize it's not for everyone.
