Chrono Aviation To Add ex-Air Transat 738 to Fleet

Wed Apr 21, 2021 7:13 pm

The Quebec-based charter carrier Chrono Aviation is adding the biggest aircraft yet to their fleet, an ex-Air Transat 738, and is expected to add an additional 20 employees to the company:

QUEBEC, April 21, 2021 /CNW/ - This is a great day for Groupe Chrono Aviation. While it continues to experience spectacular growth despite the pandemic, it has announced the acquisition of the largest aircraft in its history, a Boeing 737-800. The new generation aircraft, formerly owned by Air Transat, will be the first of its kind in Quebec to be offered exclusively on charter. This announcement implies the addition of 20 new employees within the company.

Can't wait to see this jet painted up in their matte black paint scheme, which looks so sharp on their current fleet. And it's good to see at least one airline doing well during this time and expand.

Will be interesting to see this bird out of YHU. So far the biggest plane out of YHU is their own 200s. Don't think the airport has the facilities to accommodate a plane of that size.

Cannot see why they cannot operate the aircraft out of St Hubert YHU, 11000' runway. If you can operate a -200 off a runway, you can operate a -800.

I saw the announcement online in French. I had to guess what it was saying. Didn't want to use Google Translate. Always happy to see the smaller airlines add planes.

Longest runway at CYHU is 7800', another issue with YHU is the noise complaints due to the flight schools and their 200s but thats another topic entirely.

I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of Transat.

Air Transat has been getting rid of all their 738s as they transition to the A320/A321 for a while now. By the time Covid hit they only had a handful left anyways.

I wonder if we’ll see some ex-transat 738’s at 5T. We’ve already picked up two ex-WS 737’s with a third on it’s way later this year. The -800 seems like a decent replacement for our all pax -400’s.

Are you guys going to convert those ex-WS 73Gs into combis?

No they’ll remain in the all pax config. They’ll be primarily used on our charter routes.

It's interesting to see small charter carriers like Chrono and Nolinor flourish during the pandemic.

To the points above about YHU, I think it will be based there but will see a lot of action elsewhere on various charters.

Cool. Will any all-pax 733s get retired or are these for growth?

Apparently the aircraft was NTU and sold by Chrono to fellow Canadian operator N5. https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news ... t-b737-800

This is a huge upgrade for N5, whose regular fleet is more than 30 years old. It’s suspected that this will be for Off We Go, which could second one of their B734s to regular charter duty.

OWG has indeed announced the addition of a 737-800 to their fleet.
