YYC Spotting

Fri Apr 12, 2002 10:08 am

It's looking like it's going to be beautiful on Saturday. I'm planning on heading out to the airport at about 12. I'm wondering what's going to be comming in, and if anyone else is going to be there.

Any idea what the scheduled arrival time of the EAL 742 is next saturday?

I'll scan them in for you Shane, uploading them here too. Well the forecast is for rain all of next weekend, but the weathermen can't even predict the next day here. Bo did you catch the Star Alliance A340 when it came in? We made it down from the fire hall to the Spar aviation to see the airtours take off, that what the hurry was...racing an 763...lol.

Mark:

yup I did see the Star Alliance, I was at the Staples area and saw it taxing off 28, I ran out of film so I couldnt shoot it. But I also managed to get to deerfoot mall to replenish my supplies and get another roll of film and return to the same spot ASAP.
Man if u guys rushed to spar to beat the 767, U got no idea how I managed to beat the 767. Lets just say I got my socks wet while racing to a hill like a km away with my ladder in one hand and my camera in the other.
 Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Oh and that 747 departed today, I wish I was there it probably took off on 16, It departed at 2:50pm.. DAmm I wish I was there, Star Alliance would of also came again.  Sad

Cool. Well you got the ride down to 28, the other 4 of us had to run... You know that plane, i think its a Convair thats parked by Spar, in a somewhat Canadian military scheme, what type of plane is that. I got a shot of it but don't know anything about it. It was a 24 crew rest? I wish i could have caught it depart.

When did European start flying in here? Is it just for the summer charters? I also happened to catch that 763 the one day with the blank tail, I was out on the ramp when it taxied by. So has anyone else seen the ol'744 yet, I caught it on Thursday landing 34. Pretty sweet bird.

There was five of us there, a casual get-together so to say. We're talking about repeating the same plan next saturday if the weather is nice. The EAL 747-200 was operating a RAF charter and will be back next saturday. It caught us completely by surprise, the five of us were parked at the 28 picnic area and looked up and saw what we thought was a 747, grabbed the binoculars, got the scanner on just in time to figure out what it was. Four of us started running down to the end of 28, one of us, we won't name (Bo..cough, cough) got his mom to take him down. Got there just in time as it came over our heads. Absolutely incredable.

The Air Canada 744 didn't show, instead it was the Star Alliance A340, but we missed it since we were eating in the food court...

Nice shot Mark, Im going to save it on my drive.
Unfortuenatly it may get rejected cuz its chopped off.
But you can always try planepictures.  Smile

When I got there, I went nuts and shot it like crazy.  Smile/happy/getting dizzyI even lost my balance and fell cuz it was so windy.
If you check your negatives, I can bet you that the negative of ur film shows that the entire 747 body came out but the people who developed them chopped it off. Ask for a reprint and you should get it for free and they should fix it. Brings me instant memories from yesterday.
Do you have anymore shots that you can show us? and how is that video that you or the other mark recorded..?

The video is awesome. Really cool. If I recall theres alot of Holy Shit'ing going on when it goes over our heads. We're going to try posting it up on the internet. if not we'll email you all the files. I've gotta work a bit on the EAL, bit I think I can get it accepted both sites, the Canadian North shots are on http://www.planepictures.net and just search under Mark McWhirter

you'll see them there. i got low asthetics for the EAL so we'll try again.

Hey thanks Bo, I checked my negatives and ya, they did cut a bit off of the plane. Not too much though, but still enough. I'll head back in a few days to get it fixed, then blow it up and frame the picture Smile

It appears the B744 was moved to do the YVR-HKG route as it has been seriously overbooked the last few days, and the A340 on that route moved here to do the YYC-LHR run.

The weather here looks sunny but sorta murky. But I will be at the Airport today.

I tracked down EAF and it is coming,. B747-200 but this time it is arriving from Hannover Germany..
Its coming as EAF4040 and is arriving at 3:45pm.. Much later than the 1:30 I heard about.

IM not sure if its gona be the pinky one but I hope its a different colored one.
It also looks like its favoring 16 and 28.. I will probably stick around with the picnic area by 28 like last week, I will be there around 1 or 2pm..

Oh another note. Just 20 minutes ago there was a Korean Air 244 and a Delta 56 flying over Calgary.. Niice!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Great day to be out there. Too bad you couldn't make it out there Kris. JMC brought in a A330, and a red EAL 742 also arrived. Other than that it was the usual.

I'll be getting my photos back tomorrow.
