Which, during market troughs, really doesn't mean much of anything, if it can't be translated into a revenue premium.

Except that I wasn't talking about a market trough.

Which also means nothing.

We're in a market trough, that's the current reality... if their revenue strategy doesn't get them through the now, then nothing about the future nor the good ol' days, matters.

Not before last quarter. At the moment everybody is scrambling to get as much information and hands-on experience with the planes as possible, as a lot of things have to get startet. It would be a mayor hassle if you would take the planes out of this process, just to get them painted. First one, if all goes well and thats a big if, is expected to arrive in FRA in December. Will start with training flights in January with Intra German and Europe. Longrange is expected to start im March. First flight is everybodies guess, but usally LH400 to JFK has the honours. Cabin layout will remain as it is, just LH branded, because time is too short to produce and certify a new cabin inertior.

Above config is disputed on a German forum by someone with usually good insight at Lufthansa.

What's the name of the forum? On airliners.de it's disputed as well.

Are they providing any insight as to what the configuration will be or are they just saying the above listed configuration is incorrect?

Pretty much the exact copy of Vistara, but with different colours and extra rows of W at the expense of Y.

Both orders are now also on the Airbus and Boeing order overviews.

The A350 order for 5 was actually accompanied by a cancellation for 3x A350s, so their order total only increased by 2.

The 787 order is actually for 5 more, nothing was cancelled. It's also now confirmed that these are 5 787s with GE engines.

You should clarify that the 787s are white tails, already assembled for an another carrier and already equipped with GE engines. Or do you have a source that LH requested they be with GE engines?

Cheers

The whole discussion has been based on the premise we know these are white tails.

I am in no need to try a Lufthansa Boeing 787, not even in ten years time. I am happy to have travelled on their Airbus A340, Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-400. Too bad I missed out on the Airbus A340-600. I don't understand people being enthusiastic about the Boeing 787 when it replaces a four engined aircraft.

Because for once it will have something that’s not their current business class. Which is really bad to say the least

But that doesn't impress me either! The feeling of traveling with their A380 does! When LH sorts them out, a group of business people goes a different way but not with them, even if we have to accept a stopover!

They are now on Boeing's order book listed with GE engines. It's only a confirmation that they will have the GE engines, not that they are white tails. But they are white tails, that was already confirmed elsewhere. It wasn't yet confirmed that these would be GE powered white tails and not RR powered ones, now we know for sure. We just don't have any official confirmation on which specific white tails they will take.

3 of the White tails are currently parked up and storedat VCV
- LN887 (N1005S)
- LN893 (N1003N)
- LN913 (N1008S)

The other two aircraft, LN905 (N1006F) is parked up at EVE, Speaking with a friend in the know, this is likely to be the first aircraft delivered. LN898 (Not registered) is sitting at CHS with No Engines and several other missing parts. Likely to be the last delivered.

On another note, its rumoured that 3 of them will be more premium heavy than the other 2.

Different configurations already among the first 5, interesting. Is it set in stone that they will have GEnx? Or is there a chance they might be converted to RR to match the bulk order?

Boeing’s website has them listed as GE. I also doubt Boeing would agree to convert over to RR without LH having to pay a hefty sum, especially if Boeing also has RR white tails.

The engines are not a big deal though. Although these 5 will be different from the rest of the fleet they will have commonality with the GEnxs hanging off the 748s which LH has plenty of experience with.

They are all going to be GENx Motors.

LN898, which is currently unregistered, was originally meant to have RR motors bolted on, but it never happened. It would appear that this aircraft will have to undergo some form or pilon change to fit the motors, or perhaps these were not fitted. Its something ill have to look into.

As for the configuration, I imagine that some the higher density aircraft will be for the like of South-East Asia, perhaps a new destination is coming. I guess we will have to see what comes.

Other rumours are that European proving flights will start in January 2022, Lufthansa will be flying the aircraft in November and December, but only for initial crew training.

The reg's have been announced according to Lufthansa Fleet Group Website

First 5 will be

D-ABPA
D-ABPB
D-ABPC
D-ABPD
D-APBE

and continue for any others which arrive later in the delivery process.

Funny how that they have only given Reg's for the first 15 deliveries. Probably shows that other 787's will be going to Austrian as replacements for the 767/777. They need replacing!

Thank you for the information. Am I right, that these regs never have been used before with older aircraft? Any ideas when we will see the first aircraft in LH livery. As a Boeing and Lufthansa Guy I can not wait to see the first new aircraft Boeing aircraft in Lufthansa colors....

1. I think, it’s most probably D-ABPE, not D-APBE ;)
2. The website also list only 25 A350 for LH. I don’t know if this is just because the website doesn’t has any further information or if it is because LH really gets only 15/25 aircraft.

LH internally refers to aircraft by the las two letters only. As such the “papa” series were used for the original A320s for the last 30 years. D-AIPA etc.

I agree. I'm also trying hard to take their four-engine aircraft while I can. I try avoiding the newer aircraft since I know they'll be around for a while and the older won't. Hopefully travel gets better so we can still have a chance to take the older ones before trying out the new!

They do need replacing but I wouldn’t say Austrian already has dibs on the next 787s. If I’m not mistaken though procured centrally each airline entity needs to cover its own costs. Not sure Austrian has the money to commit already?

Not really the case, if you have new aircraft which would reduce the overall fuel bill and older aircraft which are gas-guzzlers in comparison kind of rules out this point.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that part of the Lufthansa Group buying Austrian was that they had to keep long-haul flights out of Vienna, perhaps somebody can correct this point?

As said, Covid has kind of changed this.

Buying Austrian was not tied to any obligations. However, the Covid bailout came with the requirement that LH / OS keeps offering long-haul flights at VIE.

Thanks, I knew there was some form of "requirement" between LH Group and Austrian Long Haul flights continuing.
