Belavia 869 currently enroute to BCN was reportedly denied entry to EU airspace and turned away at the Polish border.

EASA released yesterday Service Information Bulletin (SIB) 2021-10, pertaining to operations in Belarus airspace: avoid it. It applies to both EU and non EU operators conducting operations to, from and within the EU.

B2 8383 from Minsk to Tirana made it into Ukraine. Question is now whether it will be able to cross into Romania

Yes, I am witnessing this live as well, oh dear, I hope they have enough fuel to return to Belarus if Romania turns them away.

Is it not a bit strange that some flights of Belavia still enters EU airspace and others get denied ?

It's bad co-ordination from the EU side. Finland canceled Belavia traffic rights to this morning, allegedly when the MSQ-HEL flight was just leaving..
Maybe the WAW flight had some VIP people on board??

PC1280 /PGT52F : Stockholm to Istanbul flew right across Belarus airspace just now. Civil aviation in Europe is not easy to control centrally from Brussels. Maybe it takes time.

It is probaby still a county-by-country instead of an EU-wide thing as BRU895 has just made it into Polish airspace en rout to WAW and BRU868 has just finished crossing Polish airspace en route to MSQ.

That's quite a large diversion to avoid Turkey. Do Cyprus Airways always have to do that?

THY6387 Istanbul-Vienna seems to have got a bit lost (heading north into Belarus right now). Maybe they need to drop off a dissident.

Is CY486 from Larnaca to Moscow, able to fly from the Bulgarian coast, across the Black Sea, and then enter southern Russia near Krasnodar ?

Turkish airspace is closed for Cypriot airlines/aircraft, they can receive a permit to enter only in exceptional conditions (medical, technical etc.)

In my my opinion EU should put more pressure on Turkey to end this.

EU operators should avoid Belarus airspace, non EU operators are only “advised” to do so. Are there any possible consequences for operators who do not comply with this advice?

As well as Ukrainians. According to this article it's all about workers in Sharm-el-Sheikh being fluent in Russian.

Additional Update 27th May 2021:

I believe with this latest update, Belavia only left with a handful of int'l destinations Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Moldova, UAE, and Turkmenistan. A lot of these destinations require great diversion from Ukraine though.

I am surprised that Kaliningrad is cancelled. I would have thought Lithuania would be reluctant to annoy Putin over this

I note as well that CY412 from Larnaca to St Petersburg did a big transit of Belarus earlier today. I am guessing that without a Belarus transit, the route may be beyond the commercially viable range of an A319 without refuelling or taking a hit to the number of pax being carried

I am curious as to what will happen to B2 9307 from Minsk to Enfiddha - there is a lot of EU airspace en route. Perhaps an allowance will be made to ensure Belarusians currently on the beach will be allowed to get home this week, but no flight will be allowed next week ?

Lithuania is part of the EU. If the EU overflight ban has finally gone through with all members then there is no way to reach Kaliningrad.

Lithuania doesn't prohibit Russian carriers from flying this route, and I guess if this situation persists someone like UT or U6 will take this opportunity.

Cyprus Airways is owned by Russians so it might also be a factor (I guess)

A bit surprising to see that Belarus has practically no domestic flights, and no airports with notable international service other than MSQ. So only one airline and one airport seem to be shouldering the brunt of all this.

P.S. My first post on this website in nearly two years.

Belavia operates charters from GME (Gomel) as well. There was a GME-SSH flight yesterday.

Well, now its Belavia's turn to circumvent closed airspace, as the airline has to fly around EU and Ukranian airspace to reach certain destinations.

At present flight BRU783 MSQ-IST continues to operate routing over Russia, all the way aroud Ukaine and Crimea.
Due to this routing the flight time has increased by 1,5 hours, while capacity has been upgraded from E195 to B737 possibly to serve additional demand, as it is the only connection to the West.

MSQ-EVN is also circumventing Ukraine and routed entirely over Russia.

The route MSQ-BEG is the only Belavia route closed, while the host nation Serbia did not shut its airspace to Belarussian carriers. Serbia and its neighbours are encircled by EU airspace and can not be reached from MSQ.

Belavia has also cancelled MSQ-TLV, while its charter flights to Sharm-El-Sheikh are over flying Russia, the Black Sea and Turkey.

EU formally issue ban for EU-based airline for overflying Belarus airspace unless absolutely emergency. Similarly, Belarus based airlines are banned from entering EU skies.
