Glad to hear everyone is safe!

In a total unrelated (and obviously less important) matter, does anyone know if the Versace amenity kits are still distributed in long-haul TATL business? I thought so, but then I saw that TK has posted both on Youtube and Twitter that "long-haul business class passengers" get what I understood to be a regional kit featuring artwork by Devrim Erbil (https://thedesignair.net/2021/05/28/tur ... h-culture/). Has anyone actually gotten the Erbill sets btw?

The Columbus Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) flights are scheduled charters carrying garments from Sri Lanka and have been running since early May using A333 and 77W.

Thanks! I'll report back on Thursday next week (pending a neg. covid test) :)

Also, thanks for the tips about walks around Conrad Istanbul. I can't recommend this place enough (for the price you pay) :)

Does anyone know if Istanbul Airport offers rapid antigen tests (not PCR) landside without checking in and going through security? I’ve googled but I couldn’t understand if they offer antigen landside.

If not, does anyone know a place to get an antigen test in Istanbul? I’ve searched and searched but can only find PCR tests.

They actually do 'landside' but the problem is getting in if you not have a flight the same day. Thing is, the price for antigen is the same as for PCR, and the PCR test is actually quite fast processed making the antigen test actually for not much use, okay you can get the result in 15 minutes, but the PCR test is within 2 hours.

https://www.istairport.com/en/announcem ... rvice-24-7

Otherwise, just ask your hotel, I always let them come to my room for the PCR test, the result takes a bit longer then at Istanbul Airport as they will visit many clients in hotels before delivering the samples to the place where they actually test them. Anti-gen test can only be done in hospitals I assume as there must be someone making the report.
All the test taken in various hotels where legit, as they do show up in E-nabiz, so the tests are processed by a licensed lab.

Awesome, thanks. I checked with Conrad and they were able to provide an antigen test but it would take 3 hours to get the results and cost more than the PCR test, so I might as well stick with the PCR test.

I reported a few days ago here that Pegasus is introducing 4 times weekly Ankara Dubai flights from July 2, 2021. Today FlyDubai also reported that they will launch direct services between Ankara and Dubai starting with 2 times weekly from July 29, 2021 and increasing to 4 times weekly from 30 September 2021. TK and AnadoluJet is out of the picture and it's a pity that they missed this opportunity for so many years as Dubai was the largest unserved market from Ankara in the Middle East. Anyways great to see two airlines operating on this sector finally.

Quite an increase in flights and capacity between UAE and Turkey this summer, Air Arabia launching AUH-Trabzon too will be a good addition!
Have there been a change in the bilaterals recently between the two countries?

Yes I asked the same question in my previous message about the bilateral Air Service Agreement between UAE and Turkey. The two countries are at odds for a while at political level so I was not expecitng a favourable amendment for either party but if it was achieved great news indeed. I hope we can get some information on that from those members who has information about it.

TC–JGB Boeing 737–8F2 wl cn/ln 29786/566 „Foça“ has left the fleet, it brings the Fleet size down to 54 B738 (again) at AnadoluJet.
It was ferried to Guangzhou (CAN) on 18/06/2021 and it’s expected for conversion to SF, same as like TC–JGD (stored at Jinan (TNA) sinne 05/03/2021).
Maybe both for TURKISH CARGO?

Question if this sounds correct:
- I will arrive at IST from DLM in the afternoon, get a PCR test near arrivals??, then stay overnight at Yotel Land-side, in the morning fly to JFK.
Am I missing something? This is all possible, right?

TC-JRY, a TK A321, has been painted in the Star Alliance livery.

Also, TK629 to Accra, operated by TC-JYH seems to have been in a holding pattern near Istanbul for almost four hours now, I wonder what the situation is.

I would say this was a bit unexpected for me.
We were talking about this earlier this year and IIRC, Detroit, Seattle even Orlando seemed on the top of the list.
(Not a whole lot of airports left..... Phoenix, Las Vegas, Charlotte and I can not think of any other US airports nonstop from IST)
15th 787-9 got delivered and two more within weeks/months and DEN/DFW will be 787 routes.
I could see them start as soon as late summer.

Anyone think YVR could be upgauged to a 77W and/or daily service after the pandemic subsides? Especially with India and China on bad terms and the crisis in Hong Kong, I don't think Cathay or mainland Chinese carriers will be connecting to India as much as they used to, maybe TK could compete on YVR-DEL fares. Plus Turkish flies to TLV, DXB, ATH, and countless destinations in Eastern Europe, subsaharan Africa and in the Indian Ocean (SEZ, MRU, MLE), all areas that lacked 1-stop service from YVR due to the lack of Emirates service here.

Is TK also seriously considering other routes in western North America? (SEA, PDX, SAN, YYC)

Nice, but rather limited?

"The spotter area will be open only on Saturdays between 08:00 and 17:30"

Must apply for entry: "Persons who upload their Turkish Identity or Passport front face photos and fill in the HES code in the spotter form will be able to submit their passport photos and submit their applications."

"Applications will be evaluated on a weekly basis"

Still . . . something is better than nothing.

Quick update from TK5 IST-ORD yesterday, June 25th:

- Check-in and security at IST took 5 minutes, no issues at all despite having an EU passport and so forth
- Annoying that TK keeps the business class lounge closed - M&S lounge was probably at 90% capacity
- Total chaos at boarding, TK changed status to "BOARDING" approx one hour before boarding began, which created a lot (A LOT) of crowding at the gate for a long time
- Flight probably 70% full in business, no idea about Y load factor
- Most passengers kept their masks on, although some didn't and staff didn't care
- Overall a very nice flight, despite it being scheduled with an older 777 without the "new"-ish business class seats
- Tasty meals, but as usual the same options as the last 5-6 years ;)
- No table cloths, no PDB etc. so one wonders why they've reinstated the flying chefs, but I suppose it's a nice touch
- Versace kits, full bedding, Denon, etc.
- Good crew
- Took 5 minuts to deplane and go through immigration at ORD, probably thanks to current entry restrictions :)

Maybe SEA...? As for the other three, no way.

Although, if TK launched SEA, they would need to become a partner with AS for connecting feed, as the O&D traffic from Seattle alone is certainly not enough to fill a 777.

Good thing Turkish’s operation isn’t about O&D! They could easily fill a flight solely with their massive IST hub.

Don't expect any immediate additional capacity increase at YVR, YYZ and YUL not because TK doesn't want but the existing bilateral has restrictions. We lobbied as Canadian Turkish Business Council for YVR launch since 2013 and could achieve 3 slots there and it has been very difficult. Yes TK could increase capacity by changing a/c type to 777 that option is there and I am sure TK will do that once Canada air traffic loads return to normal. YYZ and YUL have always had very high loads and YVR will be the same, also for cargo it is a great revenue maker for THY. I guess the next step we will see should be YYZ to go daily, AC to reinstate IST and then we can look at favorable additons to YUL and YVR and see if Calgary will be added in the next decade. AC's return to Turkey is very important so codeshare can be reintroduced on TK's flights and will make things easier to push at the Canadian end. I hope the informaiton was helpful.

I have this idea since long, which has never materialised even before the Covid-19 pandemic days.

It's a well known fact that there's a well-addicted Jewish community in Israel for gambling and there's a big gambling center (with huge casinos...) in Macau. If well negotiated with the Chinese authorities, Turkey (and TK) should be able to grant say something like x3 weekly frequency for this destination. Gambling means big profit for the casinos and therefore for the country. It may be very feasible for TK to open a TLV - GZT (=Gaziantep in southeastern Anatolia...) - Macau route say with 333s. GZT will be used for a technical stop-over (for re-fuelling and catering replenishment, say with only a one hour stop-over).

Anybody with any ideas or with any objections? :airplane: :?:

GZT will have a brand new domestic/international terminal with 6 PBBs, possibly by the end of this year, if not early 2022 and a rwy totally suitable for 333/789/359 ops. In fact one PBB on the terminal will be compatible with Cat. E wide bodies that can be used for international ER flights.
