Time to hunt down where these A350 came from. Most probably those six owned by LATAM via some financial/ shell institution.

I think these are the two ex south africa airways I talked about earlier.

I think it should be from SAA because these 2 were originally ordered by JJ before solded to HU then SAA.

In the end, all those LATAM and HNA Group A350, both ntu and those which actually did entered service, will have a big reunion in DL.

Is Delta gonna take all those 10+ A350 lying all over CHR now? They're going for a bargain....mint, new, never been used....wait..some were used. Lol

Actually it's CHR, LDE and TEV. HNA Group who has either returned majority of their A350 fleet or mostly ntu.

CHR:

8. MSN 351 Airbus A350-941 B-30DM Hainan Airlines
9. MSN 355 Airbus A350-941 B-30DP Hainan Airlines

TEV:

19 in total.

This is the 150th B739 + 9 more will most likely be ex: 9M-LNG, LBJ, LBM, LBO, PK-LQR, LQS, LQT and 2 unknown B739. I guess those other B739 JT currently lease from SL will most likely never return back to SL again. SL now only operates B738 solely.

150th 739...wow. DL really is growing its 737 fleet. Airfleets still shows a lower number (130) of 739s, so I presume it's not yet been updated: https://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Del ... 0Lines.htm

In any case, Airfleets lists 243 32Xs active/parked and 207 737s (with the aforementioned 130 739s). I wonder if the scale will get tipped in favor of 737s.

DL has 130 739s in service- those are all the new builds they took straight from Boeing. DL currently has taken delivery of, and owns, 20 more used frames but they are all parked and stored awaiting conversion into DL’s specs prior to being placed in service.

Remember that DL has 150+ A321s on order... So, it'd be doubtful that the scale would tip in favor of the 737.

While these 737s are getting Delta registration numbers as they arrive in the U.S., their sale to Delta has not yet been completed. They are still owned by the lessor with the sale expected to be complete in Q1 2022, followed by conversion to Delta standard prior to entering service starting in Summer 2022. The totals won't be updated until they actually join the fleet.

I have the following aircraft left on my watchlist (including the 2 already in transit) with their projected Delta fleet numbers:
PK-LQS (3931), PK-LSG (3934), PK-LHW (3935), VP-CEQ/PK-LJO (3938), PK-LBM (3942), 9M-LNG (3945), PK-LBO (3947), PK-LOF (3952), PK-LBJ (3953), PK-LSQ (3957), VP-CIS/PK-LPF (3959)

There are not the proper gaps in the registration sequence for PK-LQR or PK-LQT to be on the list based on MSN.

Knowing PK-LQS is a 2011 frame, can anyone confirm wether or not it has sky interior installed on it? And if not, will Delta retrofit it with sky interior, or keep the current boeing interior a la 737-800? Ngl it would be cool to see a 900 with the Boeing interior in Delta's fleet.

These B739 has BSI for sure. PK-LHP and onwards B739 has BSI. LQS was build in August 2011.

After shedding 29 airframes, Lion Air Group will have roughly 65 B737-9GP/ER remaining in fleet, still quite a big operator. They would need to shed those B739, B738 and A320ceo fast once Indonesia lifts the 737MAX ban and borders reopen. Their MAX and NEO order book is mind boggling. I am sure DL will go back to ask for more B739. I can see many of those remaning B739 are from DVB Bank and Northern Star Investment.

Remember that Delta still has to convert the A359 frames already acquired to the Delta fleet standard, and Delta won't fly these planes until they've been converted, and there is a limit to Delta's capacity to convert frames to the Delta fleet standard. So for Delta to purchase additional "gently used" A359 frames now, it has to not only be worth their while from a business sense, but also worth their while to tie up their capital investment for a year with the frames sitting unused, waiting behind the other frames to be converted.

My guess is that Delta may eventually acquire some of these frames - especially the ones built later with longer range - if they are on the market at this time next year. If not, Delta still has options. Remember that the world is interconnected, and developments on these additional frames will have to be weighed against other opportunities (like any white tail A330neo frames available due to the financial situation at AirAsiaX), any demand for Delta's 763 frames as cargo feedstock, the overall demand for air travel, and the relative strength of TPAC vs TATL demand and the resulting requirements for aircraft range.

So in summary, it's possible but not certain.

66 B739 Actually Which HS-LTT is now transferred to JT recently. If not DL, i bet African carriers will look at their older B739's like Safair, Mango, Comair etc if they agree to order/take delivery more MAX after fully lifted.

PK-LFV of JT left fleet today. But this A/C is not for DL. It's bound to ASP right now. As stated by timf before, The last 10 B739 due for DL which he mention using DL number up there is all heading to DL as confirmed.

VP-CEQ (Ex PK-LJO) has landed in SBD yesterday. Was the 19th used B739 to join fleet.

DL's approach to enlarging their fleet seems to be to buy as many used aircraft as possible, fix them up and then buy only what they have to buy from the manufacturers. This isn't a bad idea, because it saves them a ton of money. They profited by leasing used 717s from WN who wanted to dump the aircraft, which gave them the right airframes for secondary markets that needed smaller aircraft. Buying used also gets Delta aircraft more quickly than if they wait for a brand new order. This approach tends to age the fleet more quickly, but that happens over a number of years. Most passengers never notice the difference. They do notice, however, that many of DL's international aircraft are aging, and however much some people like the 2-3-2 seating on the 767, many prefer the seemingly newer 777s flown by foreign carriers, especially in business. Those passengers will likely appreciate the new A350s.

Also, as well as the B763 fleet has served Delta, some of them are almost completely out of hours. The question now remains: what about routes where the A359 or even an A332/3/9 is too big? It also helps that DL has good credit and lessors know that they won't get hosed on these frames (DL also tends to "lease to own").

737Gs was easy to retire last year because of the A319s, and they have a lot of time left.

Undoubtably, DL is likely the last operator of the acquired frames, or for the majority of the remaining lifetime. While they don't go the used widebody route much, the abrupt 777 retirement opened an opportunity to simplify the fleet and to take advantage of the gently-used market.

The fraction of the fleet that was acquired used is still pretty small - under ~100 of the active fleet of 797 frames mainline as reported 9/30/21. Even the twenty-nine 739s and nine 359s acquired used won't change that as the 717s (and some used 767s) are going away.

Buying used 739s instead of (more) new 321neos or MAXs is a tradeoff: lower CAPEX for higher operating cost. Fuel prices are volatile. The CRJ-100s (and DC-9 refurbs) looked brilliant in the late-90s when Jet A dropped to $0.32/gallon. They didn't look so smart in late 2005 when fuel was $2.64/gallon. Recall that both DL and NW went into Chapter 11 in September 2005.

New, fuel efficient aircraft are their own fuel hedge. Southwest has reported how much they pay to hedge fuel... a cost whether they get it right or wrong. It's been 5-8 cents a gallon. DL used 4.2 Billion gallons in 2019. No doubt DL's decision-making on used 739s involved a lot of fuel price sensitivity analysis. They probably did some interest rate sensitivities, too, in the 5-10 year window for new buys.

I see DL opperating 3 fleets:
1. High utilization, this was 739ER transitioning to A321NEO
2. Mid utilization, was 737NG and A320, I see the 739s in this role
3. Low utilization. This was MD-80/90, 717. Aircraft age into this category or are only bought used.

So your points are valid. DL just needs to refresh the low utilization fleet. I suspect the A320s are a natural fit, due to their age.

the 763 without premium select has the same capacity as a a332 with it

Is Delta gonna take all those 10+ A350 lying all over CHR now? They're going for a bargain....mint, new, never been used....wait..some were used. Lol

Can you name the A350 MSN that is stored in CHR?

Actually it's CHR, LDE and TEV. HNA Group who has either returned majority of their A350 fleet or mostly ntu.

CHR:
1. MSN 270 Airbus A350-941 B-LGJ Hong Kong Airlines

LDE:
1. MSN 124 Airbus A350-941 F-WXAL Airbus Industrie B-LGA
2. MSN 153 Airbus A350-941 F-WXAM Airbus Industrie B-LGB
3. MSN 168 Airbus A350-941 F-WXAN Airbus Industrie B-LGC
4. MSN 187 Airbus A350-941 F-WXAO Airbus Industrie B-LGD
5. MSN 246 Airbus A350-941 B-308G Hainan Airlines
6. MSN 251 Airbus A350-941 B-308H Hainan Airlines
7. MSN 260 Airbus A350-941 B-308J Hainan Airlines
8. MSN 351 Airbus A350-941 B-30DM Hainan Airlines
9. MSN 355 Airbus A350-941 B-30DP Hainan Airlines

TEV:
1. MSN 226 Airbus A350-941 OE-IPK Avolon ZS-SDC (DL taking this)
2. MSN 245 Airbus A350-941 OE-IPX Avolon ZS-SDD (DL taking this)
3. MSN 285 Airbus A350-941 M-ABOD ALAFCO
4. MSN 308 Airbus A350-941 M-ABOE ALAFCO

Others:
1. MSN 098 Airbus A350-941 B-1069 Hainan Airlines -> Stored in PEK
2. MSN 112 Airbus A350-941 B-1070 Hainan Airlines -> Stored in PEK
3. MSN 235 Airbus A350-941 B-LGE Hong Kong Airlines -> Stored at ASP
4. MSN 256 Airbus A350-941 B-LGH Hong Kong Airlines -> Transferred and stored in PEK as Hainan Airlines B-30EG
5. MSN 283 Airbus A350-941 B-LGK Hong Kong Airlines -> Stored at TLS

19 in total.

Most of these A350s would be great to join DL as well in addition to MSN 226/245.

VP-CIS (ex JT PK-LPF) has finally made it's journey to USA to join DL fleet. Leaving CGK this morning to SBD via GUM and HNL.

VP-CIN also landed in SBD few days ago. But not sure the MSN of this A/C yet and it might be a 2014 made jet. Probably ex PK-LSG?

VP-CIN should be PK-LSQ (MSN 39824), and the aircraft will become N957D_. The Cayman registrations are also sequential by MSN, so this aircraft falls somewhere between VP-CIK (39823) and VP-CIQ (39878). There's a couple other newer aircraft that also fit the sequence, but I don't think those are going to Delta.

And another aircraft (VP-CFY) is leaving for USA as well today. VP-CFx stands for 2013 made planes in my checklist. But no mention of the MSN yet. This aircraft is either ex: 9M-LNG, PK-LBM, LBJ, LBO or PK-LOF which these 5 B739 is also leaving for DL fleet as stated by timf before .

VP-CFY corresponds to PK-LOF (38741/4679), to be N952D_.

Delta has taken ownership of the first used 737-9GPER - N949DK.

Yup, this is already correct. Where did you find the source PK-LHW and other B739 joining DL fleet?

I've been using the Planespotters 737 production list. So far, all the aircraft that have joined Delta's fleet have been listed as Parked prior to their departure from Lion Air. Besides PK-LSG and PK-LHW, there are 3 other 737-9GPER that potentially fit in the sequence between N933DJ (37291) and N936DU (38304). Those are PK-LJZ, PK-LPI, and PK-LHU, but Planespotters lists all 3 as Active so I have discounted them from my list in lieu of the two already listed as Parked.

LPI, LJZ and LHU are still active. If they are retired after 2022, most likely they go to Azur Air or Flyr or Flybondi or any other small airlines if DL not taking these up. DL remaining B739 is confirmed the one you mention before.

N952DB is the likely the registration of this aircraft.

The ex-SAA are leased from Avolon, so these must be additional LATAM A359s?

Yes. LATAM sold 2 A359s to VMO earlier this year, arranged via SkyWorks:

https://newsroom.aviator.aero/skyworks- ... ctivities/

This must be them. Makes sense, as reconfiguration will be exactly the same as the other used A350s (saving money).

Slowly but surely acquiring the entire ex-LATAM A350 fleet.

Assuming that's the case, then there are 4 remaining ex-LATAM frames:
MSN 035 PR-XTC...currently at VCV.
MSN 045 PR-XTD...currently at VCV.
MSN 079 PR-XTG...(was A7-AMA when leased to QR)...currently at VCV.
MSN 363 PR-XTM...currently at VCV.

Are these in addition to the two ex-SAA frames, or were those incorrectly identified as going to Delta?

3 more B739 registered to DL database:

N959DV ex VP-CIN

N957DR ex VP-CIS

N938DB ex VP-CEQ

PK-LOF is still awaiting it's DL registration soon.

Total 152/159 now.

According to my chart, it's between: ex PK-LSG, LHW, LQS, LBJ, LBM, LBO or 9M-LNG which is the only last 7 B739 before solded to DL. My guess is PK-LSG to me.

This one should be ex PK-LSG/HS-LTP per timf report. They just also got ex PK-LHW as well last week. Now they have 154/159. Only 5 more to go which is stated to be 3 are former Batik, 1 former Malindo (9M-LNG) and 1 ex Lion (PK-LQS).

I think it's PK-LBJ (MSN 38742) and will become N953xx - remember the temporary tail numbers are in alphabetical order too so VP-CIC will land between VP-CFY which was MSN 38741 - N952DJ and VP-CIE which was MSN 38748 - N955DE .

Oh. I did not know that. Meanwhile HNL Rarebirds report it's a former Lion Air plane. Quiet confusing since I thought VP-CIx was designated for 2014 mades while VP-CFx designated for 2013 mades. But at least I have just 5 more planes to join DL fleet which are ex PK-LBJ, LBM, LBO, LQS and 9M-LNG. All expected to complete delivery by December 2021 before EIS with DL in 2022.
