It’s on the Boeing employees news. 10am. Several of us have even posted who the pilots will be.

Thanks. Any word on an official live stream?

Yes, but I’m not sure if it’s for employees only. I won’t post something that is proprietary or not meant for public release. The employee news didn’t sound like some big secret. I thought it was already public. Oh well.

I think its time for Boeing to really get the PR department working again. We've been through so much crap with the MAX, then Covid and all of that.

It's sad that the MAX 10 roll out was not even announced with a press release.

But now it's time to get back on the saddle, and tell the world "Hey guys, we made the biggest 737 ever, and it's beautiful. It's something to be excited about!".

Wild that this plane sat around for a year and a half after rollout. Glad this day is finally upon us.

What got enhanced with the AoA sensors please? Is this different from other current MAXes? And how about MCAS? Is it needed at all or modified on the long -10?

Yes, I wonder what the difference in pitch up characteristics are between the 7 and the 10, since the 10 has a longer moment arm. The 7 one would assume is most in need of MCAS, and the 10 the least or perhaps not at all. One wonders how close the -600 came to needing MCAS, or perhaps it did.

MCAS is specific to MAX aircraft due to different handling characteristics with the engines mounted higher and further forward which was generating extra lift compared to the NGs

My curiosity is the quantification of the nose up moment of the NG engines, the MAX engines, versus the nose down moment of the horizontal stab of the -600 through Max10. This seems like statics 101, so I'm surprised it has not been answered by Boeing. But hey, it's their football, so no need to shed any illumination on it. Not like I"m not going to get on a 737, but this is basic stuff. 747SP, big tail for a reason, DC-8-71, small tail, it ain't rocket science.

I doubt there will be any public stream. Most media contacts I know where not even invited. Like what was mentioned above, this will most likely be an internal event with video and pictures released post flight. Similar to the roll out of the -10

I doubt they’ll say anything till after the flight and then release a small press release. Even for the unveiling of the MAX10 they did not even release a press release

What was different about when they unveiled the -10 vs now?

The main difference is the max is now flying again. But I understand why there would not be a big fuss

It's good to see the MAX back in the business. The -10 could be one of the more promising variants.

Most probably all the media will include the statement "The largest member of 737MAX family came after more than a year of grounding after two crashes which took the lives of 349. The grounding caused Boeing billions of loss including compensation to relatives of those perished and airlines cancelling order in hundreds" Boeing might not want that kind of attention.

Does it have to go beyond that?

It will be competitive with the standard NEO. Which would be more than good enough for MAX operators. Which I believe is the target. And that is good enough. You can get a decent amount of sales selling this aircraft to MAX operators

Airlines buy planes, the public don’t. A PR extravaganza will generate exactly zero sales. Boeing need to calmly sell the MAX to airlines by convincing them of its in-service reliability and offering killer deals. Everything else is just waste and puff.

No they seriously need to bring back their image. The flying public finally buys all those seats. There is a big need for communication how things have changed and why the MAX is now safe. This is why I would expect more than almost nothing this time.

I think Boeing is adhering to the “no news is good news” strategy at this point. There is nothing more they can say to convince people that have decided for themselves that the max series is unsafe. Aviation fanboys may find this -10 flight exciting, but the less we hear about 737max in the news, the better.

Thanks for your nice photos and other info you have posted to a.net.

So, any hint if the local TV stations are going to get helos up to cover the event?

I think that's a fair comment. I did a double-take once when I saw a photo of a -900 in bad lighting, I was thinking it was a two-engine 707.

If you see them alongside each other ( https://i.imgur.com/OEqreME.jpeg via https://imgur.com/gallery/BdHJRsP/comment/1617121185 shows a P-8 refueling from a KC-135 ) you can see the main difference is the size of the wing. 707 had enough room for enough fuel to feed four first-generation turbofans doing TATL routes. Wiki says 23,855 USgal for 707-320 and 7,837 US gal for 737-900ER so 3x the fuel.

You weren't too far off what Reuters is actually reporting:

Boeing must also complete safety certification of the plane under a tougher regulatory climate following two fatal crashes of a smaller 737 MAX version grounded the model for nearly two years - with a safety ban still in place in China.

Ref: https://www.reuters.com/business/aerosp ... 021-06-18/

They also confirm 10 AM Pacific is the target time for first flight, say that Boeing is being low-key with regard to PR, and make some uncomplimentary comparisons between 737-10 and A321. In other words, the media is not failing to deliver as anticipated.

Me too.

Even if one would look at it completely cynical, there's still the perception of the company having faith in their own product. If Boeing shows excitement for the aircraft, so will the public. That includes journalists, analysts and everyone else. Which in turn does affect the people who might invest in it or not.

PR is very important, especially right now.
