Kalitta Air New Livery

Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:33 pm

Kalitta Air has debuted a new livery. The new livery ditches the classic looking cheatline for a more modern look with revised titles.

I feel like it’s not finished or it’s missing something. I prefer Connies old flying Chinese restaurant livery. Still not as cheesy as 10 Tanker new confetti livery.

I'm not a fan of the old color scheme but I respected its uniqueness. This honestly looks like they don't want to pay to paint the entire airplane anymore.

Don't they know the right way to do it is to ditch the lines and make the words bigger. This looks like the same size so clearly the did it wrong C'mon guys, do what AA, UA and WN did....

I think that would look great! It wouldn’t work on most new planes though.

Not bad, but it would be more coherent if the wings on both sides of the titles were red and gold instead.

Ahh, so I see you too have met someone in the Kalitta clan. "Thrifty" doesn't even begin to cover it.

1 vote here for bare metal and a good color for their titles.

Looks terrible IMO.
I loved the big cheatlines. Now it looks like an Iberia copycat.
Way too white, way too bland.

Yawn. Was this tail the previously unpainted all-white one flying around?

I wouldn't call this a new livery. They just removed the cheat line... looks more like a cost-cutting measure for repainting. I may be wrong but the titles actually look smaller.

Need something on the nose to balance it out, even just painting the radome black or grey would make it look less incomplete.

The old livery was pretty bad, looked like it was designed by a pre schooler, this is a bit of an improvement but the red and faded gold on the tail still looks amateurish

So they painted the tail, stenciled on the template for their logo on the fusulage and then… ran out of money?

They kept the colors. That is already a major save.

This isn't Lufthansa that ditched their character two-tone iconic blue and yellow for a "premium wine-bottle" look (because the yellow moon was "loud". Bee ess). It's just a little too bare, but it's ok. B neutral to me.

When all's said and done, it's a cargo airline, does it need to have an expensive paint job? looks the part to me, even though it reminds me of the short-lived Air India livery!!

This is a lot better than some of the Kalitta birds flying around with plain yellow tails with the DHL titles at the end. That livery us just plain awful!

Why do you give a freighter a livery? Plain white would do, especially if you do many wetleases.

That paint job required too much paint and thus was too expensive. Rarely do they have any passengers to impress, however, so watchword is "economize" I would think.

No. Just....just no! I understand being cheap, but there's something to be said for being different and standing out, and in the case of their old school livery, cool.

I like the new livery. The flourishes on the tail gives a shout out to the past. I'm fine with a big black logo on top of white, it makes the brand name stand out instead of the visual distraction of the old cheat line livery. I'm fine with it being cheaper to paint, it's a f'ing freighter after all. Time to move on. The AMC Gremlin came and went and the sun still rises each day.

Several of Kalitta's 744s are white, along with the -4KZFs operated by Atlas

Hello all,
To me, it has that JAL look from when they bought the '400s from years ago with the same sized titles. And the real reason LH ditched the yellow on their livery? DHL and Spirit bought all the yellow in the world for their a/c...

Hello all,
To give them some credit, at least it's not a Zantop livery and paintjob applied with rollers and brushes. Still remember them working at ORD in my youth...

I like it. It looks fresh and they're managing to keep it cheap and at least it's not completely white so ground controllers can still identify it by the tail.

Definitely saving on paint.
They at least could've updated the logo.
Did they ever change it since 67? (minus the air)

I remember VK from my days at ORD too - they had a bunch of Electra's and an L-1011 that they used for ORD/LAX. When I was a rookie working night ops at the forwarder where I still am employed all these days later (I guess you CAN fool them), I was always confused by Zantop being VK and Viking being VO - thought it should have been the other way around. But I digress - I prefer the old livery to this one without the cheatline, but hey, I am not paying for the paint job so oh well

Pity! When it comes to CARGO ONLY airlines, management doesn’t really need to be that concerned about passengers or general population. There is NO reason in the world why they cannot just enjoy themselves and create some eye candy.

FedEx (which looks awesome) actually does need to be consistent with the rest of their branding, same for UPS and DHL (and the yellow is brilliant)

They do have to worry about their B2B customers so they can’t use pictures of kittens in blankets, but they have so much freedom, and often on the ultra-Queen, the 747-8!

What a lost opportunity. But I am also sure that the guy with the calculator said “3 colors, max”
