Breeze International RFP

Mon Jul 12, 2021 4:09 pm

Breeze is looking to expand outside of the US with the A220. Per the article below, they're looking at the Americas, Caribbean, and even western Europe.

Why not South Pacific and Africa? They can fly MYR to Zimbabwe.

What is this 'Route Exchange'? For airlines too lazy or cheap to do their own research?

Time to reign in these open skies agreements as it is killing smaller carriers outside the USA. Instead of the free for all limit it to one on one carriers.

OK, Komrade. Why have competition in anything, right?

No thanks. That's not how capitalism works, even in its current (very) flawed form.

I was wondering the same. At first, I thought this may have been a flight sim enthusiast press release. Those virtual airlines do a lot to make themselves look like real carriers; including fictional quotes and press releases.

The first I have heard of Route Exchange and agree it seems like a strange platform for route development.

I welcome fair competition. But when a country has one carrier and you have over 5 carriers from some where else coming in thats unfair plus it take away higher paying jobs. Not everyone want to be a maid or cook at a local hotel. If you say F/A is a upscale type of maid service it pays way more money than working at a resort.

If the local small carrier or that carriers route is killed by a US airline and then that US airline decides to withdraw at some point, those people may lose crucial air service as well as employment opportunities by the airline. This is why protectionism exists. Back to the topic however, doesn’t it seem as though Breeze is a little in over it’s head considering the amount of time it took them to start domestic travel?

So a country that is thousands of times larger needs to limit the number or airlines to a small country? Interesting you favor monopolies, which would likely to far more damage to local tourism and businesses than the handful of higher paying jobs by a government-enabled monopoly airline.

So there is government intervention either way: (1) limiting access to US carriers to the small country and, therefore, likely substantially limiting service, reducing business and tourism, and/or (2) state-supported airline. In my mind, you don't limit US carrier access and use the significant additional tax revenue from more tourism and business to, in part, support your local airline to ensure critical air service. That narrow view that competition is inherently bad only suppresses an economy.

I welcome fair competition.

And who's to decide what's "fair".... you?

Nah, let the consumer vote with their wallet.

It is part of a product family. The flagship product used to be annual "Routes Conferences" at regional and international level. It is problably not as well known in the US as elsewhere, but there has been a "Routes Americas" conference for many years. The next has been announced:

Think of speed-dating by airports and airlines to find out if a serious date could end in romance.

I just hope they get to the west coast first, before they start international flying.

They are already operating from an FIS connected gate at MSY, so it will be interesting to see how they utilize it for future international service.

A platform for airlines to seek route subsidies from airports and local governments. It's nice to have them all in one place so that airlines can play them off each other to get larger route subsidies.

It'd be nice if a carrier would finally make Jamaica and Dominican republic scheduled instead of scheduled-charter, since local demand to those markets has proven itself year-in-year-out for decades now.

Would love to see MSY regain a Bahamas nonstop as well.

Breeze's point to point, low frequency business model will probably work for high-volume destinations like CUN and PUJ but I'm skeptical of their potential success in higher end markets

They just need to feed the resorts. The neat part of a low frequency model is they just snipe high yield day traffic and ignore the slow days.

I am shocked how many P2P destinations the low frequency model works. It is hard to push out the airline as they are only there when traffic is high and fares are high.
