AIRLIVE is reporting that an Air Europa Express ATR72 was badly damaged on the runway in Madrid. The article says it was hit by a catering truck and then hit another vehicle. Has anyone else heard anything extra about this. I presume it is an inaccurate translation from Spanish. I cannot see any circumstances where a catering vehicle would be on a runway.

What was a catering truck doing on a runway?

There are a few photos on this tweet https://twitter.com/controladores/statu ... 08226?s=21. This shows it parked at a stand being catered. It appears as if the unfortunate aircraft then hit a nearby GPU

At least the nose damage appears to be radome-only. But this is gonna take some inspection and repair time for some folks and a lot of peeing in cups for someone else.

Ouch…
Quick summary/guesswork, looks like the catering truck gave it a right good whack just by door R2, which spun the aircraft around to the right subsequently hitting the mobile GPU with the radome.
As long as no ones hurt…..
They other bits can be repaired .

Looks that way, the aircraft is displaced a fair way from the taxi line. takes a fair bit to move the best part of 13 tonnes sideways like that (ATR72 empty weight). The truck must have has some speed.

I wonder if the aircraft will survive, a lot of important structural items there, the doors, pressure bulkhead, tail.

I flew on that aircraft last week on its regular Malaga-Madrid, and there was no sign of any catering on board!
