Silver Airways to fly ATRs for Amazon?

Fri Jul 23, 2021 1:20 am

Looks like an ATR with an Amazon registration was registered July 8th. Is Silver Airways going to be flying ATRs for Amazon? Apologize if this is being discussed elsewhere, but I don't remember seeing any announcement. Amazon's route network and fleet diversification is getting more and more impressive.

Was discussed already in the Amazon thread. Empire is likely doing MX work, but Silver was advertising for pilots to likely crew this operation.

Why would they be hiring atr pilots specifically for this? Is it 135 with lower Mins?

Or they are keeping crews segregated.

Scuttlebutt was they were basing these crews out of FWA

ATR's are expected in ABQ/EUG/OMA/BNA to name a few.

Why is Amazon going for smaller aircraft now? Is it a change in strategy, or were they working towards this all along?

And the Amazon thread was probably CargoFacts's source.

Also good, but much less lake effect snow on Texas.

What's the source on this? Not doubting it, just want to read more about it.

Amazon is also building a Sortation Center in Tucson. I wouldn't be surprised if TUS is a potential ATR destination for Amazon Air, instead of flying packages bound into Southern Arizona into PHX.

That makes a heck of a lot more sense than FWA. Right letters, just the wrong order.

The first airplane isn't out of conversion yet, let alone painted.

Actually, Amazon is building two giant fulfillment centers in Fort Wayne. One near FWA, one on US 30 across from Sweetwater.

I don’t know for certain, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see 763ERs with the Amazon smile at FWA soon.

Amazon is building giant fulfillment centers just about everywhere these days :D It makes sense that Amazon will serve FWA as a line station sooner or later (like how TOL is served from AFW) but I never understood the logic behind the rumor of basing a fleet of ATRs in FWA. Likely the rumor mill confused FWA with AFW.

Lol exactly. It’s funny reading posts here of people thinking their local FC or 2 means air service must be forthcoming. There’s an incredible amount of FCs being built all over.
