Great news for SWF, I wonder though how much longer for B6 at the airport.

I would guess just a positioning thing but who knows

One of their planes sat on the tarmac for 4+ hours the other night waiting for a gate at MCO - might as well drive at that speed

Not really sure I understand why they refer to SWF as "New Windsor, NY." Yes, the airport is partly in the Town of New Windsor (and partly in the Town of Newburgh) and the terminal is just barely within the boundaries of the former, but literally no one ever (apart from Frontier, apparently) calls Stewart Airport "New Windsor, NY." Do they refer to CVG as "Hebron, KY?" That's where the airport is!

I think CVG is closer to Cincy than SWF is to NYC. If you're on the interstate in downtown Cincy there are signs to CVG. I don't think there are any Stewart Airport signs on the West Side Highway. Just saying, the comparison isn't exactly 1:1.

For me its more of a Pearson Airport vs Toronto Airport situation.

Great to see Frontier taking full advantage of the opportunity for SWF.

Will ILG be next with similar Florida flights -- Tampa, Miami

Eh then either use the official name ("New York Stewart [International Airport]") or "Newburgh" which is the most well-known community nearby -- and Newburgh is a control city on I-84 (which one uses to access the airport via NY 747).

Connections? I can't really see any other reason, MCO seems to be a rather large station for F9.

That's quite the MCO destination set:

- underserved tertiary markets like HRL, FSD, FAR, CID

- VFR, back to SAL

- MCO to tourist destinations CZM, BZE, LIR, PLS

Well the last few months it’s been rumoured that a new LCC airline was coming to SWF.
With WN aggressive COVID expansion rumbling had it at a high possibility. Then speculation had Avelo possibly adding it as another eastern destination after HVN.
But we now know it’s Frontier! So congratulations SWF hopefully they take full of advantage of the International capabilities to connect you to some Fun destinations!

Connecting traffic

They can manage what they have at MCO. No staff!

I don't think connections are much of a consideration for F9. The frequency just isn't there to make most work.

F9 is really connecting dots all over! Gotta put all those planes somewhere. My one head scratcher is HRL-MCO, how much of a market is there? How much can they grow it?

I'm actually pleased it is F9 as the big announcement for SWF and not Avelo. We need Avelo's focus and undivided east coast attention on New Haven, selfishly speaking! No cheating on HVN with SWF !! ;)

I was hoping MDT would get some new adds like TPA and MIA. The twice-weekly MCO flight just doesn't seem to cut it.

XNA-MCO..looks like they are going head to head against G4, see if going to the closer airport will get people to switch.

Maybe heading off a new operator at MCO.

This Year XNA has gained Breeze at SAT, MSY and TPA, G4 to FLL, PIE, AUS and HOU, and now F9 to LAS and MCO.
Meanwhile the Majors keep kicking the can down the road on restarting LAX, SFO and LGA/ERW. No one will book them as those that have have had their flights canceled over and over.

Just a little bit closer lol…
CVG -> Cincy: 15 minute drive
SWF -> NYC: 1.5 hour drive

It’s like complaining that HSV isn’t labeled as Birmingham or that TOL isn’t marketed as Detroit…

Totally agree with you on this. Or maybe even service to LAS, which I know would be weird, but who knows; MDT-DEN worked for a couple years until they made the schedule horrible. It seems weird that Frontier would keep MDT open just for service to MCO and nowhere else.

I think what's more interesting here is the expansion of their MCO - CentAm / Caribbean portfolio. Clearly they had tried to make a move from Miami, but it looks to me like they are going to try to shift it to MCO (perhaps as a reaction to NKs move in MIA). MCO clearly doesn't have the robust O&D from the region than MIA does but MCO will have far more connection opportunities.

Totally aircraft repositioning with hopes of picking up a few dollars to cover some of the cost.

It seems like every other metro area in the USA with a million plus population has a nonstop to Orlando. Why not give it a shot.

Frontier probably launched HRL-MCO partly to go up against Allegiant's MFE-SFB route just 30 miles down the road.

The Rio Grande Valley has about 1.5 million people within a 1-hour drive of HRL. And there are about another 2 million people immediately across the river in Mexico. So there's potential.

They seem content with just 2-3 weekly to MCO and that’s it.
I personally don’t have much faith in them anymore, if DEN returned I’m not even sure I’d book them. Last time when we left DEN it was a disaster at the airport trying to check in.

The less than daily model seems to be working well for F9. They’ve definitely positioned themselves alongside Spirit as one of the best value/ultra low fare options. Does anyone know what the delivery schedule for new aircraft is? Is their current fleet utilization high?

It would be interesting to see what other larger scale expansions could be possible akin to what Spirit announced with MIA (30 daily flights!)

It’s nice to F9 profitable and growing again.

Yup F9s model is perfect for 2021 and 2022 the mostly domestic leisure world. Less the daily is totally fine and allows them to maximize loads

Hopefully Frontier can run these infrequent Caribbean flights reliably as people spend a good amount on hotels and entertainment at these destinations and surely don't want to have flights delayed for many hours or days to spoil their vacation time.
