Low flying King Air over Sarasota FL

Wed Jul 28, 2021 4:45 pm

I live and work in Sarasota FL and I have seen some low flying aircraft especially around the beach, but this one was very very low at 10:15pm Eastern . I really though for a moment I was witnessing a plane crash when I got out of my car in the dark parking lot. No noise until it was right in front of me and few hundred feet. I got on Flightradar24 ASAP lol!! And it was doing a patter like it was mapping. But why would it be flying at night for that! At 200 feet!???

I’m guessing mosquito spraying. Your map lines up with the treatment areas for last night.

Ah! But why would he be spraying farm and wooded areas way east of new developments? And at that low of an altitude? Not much vertical distance to deal with an engine failure.

It’s probably been identified as a breeding area so they’re spraying it. We’ve certainly been getting a lot of rain this season, so it doesn’t surprise me that mosquito population might be getting out of hand!
