TWAs early constellations retirement in 1961

Sun Aug 08, 2021 2:24 am

In 1961 TWA retired their Lockheed 049s,1049s(not super Gs),had a few 1949Hs for cargo leaving the Lockheed 749s and Super Gs as the mainstay
in the Connie fleet,For 1649As a few remained in passenger service until about 1963 as most were converted to freighters or retired. In 1964 some 749s got repainted in the twin globe
paint job but no Super Gs got repainted,By 1966 super Gs were retired,1967 749s were retired,In May 1967 last 1649A cargo flight.Does anyone want to add anything else on the history
of TWA's Connie fleet.I guess the 1649A did not see much passenger domestic flights in the early 1960s was operating costs where 1049Gs and 749s were not as costly.
