Ticker on CNN says more than 30 C17's are slated to head to Kabul in the next 24 hours. I'm not sure if that's 30 individual aircraft, or 30 movements.. The way it was worded is how I wrote it.. I guess that sounds like individual aircraft? I don't really want to go hunt for flights and see how many unique aircraft have been flying..

Not Sure if this thread is just to share movements but this popped up into my news feed. 37k moved in a week and looks like they moved close to 19,000 in 24 hours. Absolutely incredible scale.

The Kam air A343 is being flown out of there. It’s heading south west from Kabul.

A DAT A320 (OY-JRK) & A321 (OY-RUU) are on approach to ISB from Billund (with a stop in TBS). No doubt to evac folks to Scandinavia.

Global X A321 GXA107 / N277X is en route from Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Kabul.

Army Gen. Stephen Lyons, Commander of U.S. Transportation Command was asked how many aircraft are being used. He replied "the air component has well over 200 aircraft" that are being used in some fashion to help.

-edit-

not long after the Global X 321 landed in Kabul, transponder for their A320 popped on.
Global X A320 GXA106 / N276GX looks to depart Kabul soon.

Global X also tweeted a photo showing people boarding, and a statement directing inquires to be directed to the State Department.

MRS3051 just landed from Baghdad at Dulles. This couldn't be a CRAF charter since Egyptair is not US airline. Perhaps a separate DOD charter?

MRS3051 has flown that route a few other times before all of this started, so probably unrelated.

I think they are very likely coming from the huge US Air Base at Ramstein not from Zweibrücken which is closed now as a military airfield (not for civil traffic).

I had never heard of Zweibrücken before my previous post :-).

In the meantime, RCH884 (USAF C-17 08-8198) is descending towards Kabul (coming from Ramstein with a possible stop in Kuwait):

YA-KMU is landing at Abu Dhabi

Did not go to the terminal. it is on the northside. Based on googlemaps, this area seems to be all military.

Why don't KLM take the northern route like UA898 for their flights to Delhi? I see KL872 takes the long way around Israel and Saudi Arabia, they could save an hour going the northernly route via Tajikistana nd Ujbekistan.

On that note, why do most airlines avoid Israeli airspace? Why not also cut through it and Jordan?

Will the countries that don’t recognize Israel make radar handoffs with them?

No, you will not be allowed entry from Israel by the non-recognizing country. Just as you cannot file a flight plan from KSA to Israel, has to go thru a third country and you have to land at that third country.

Overflying Israel, like overflying any country is subject to their rules and permits. Israeli overflights aren’t granted on a moment’s notice and subject to their security procedures.

Senior State Department Official says that several thousand US Citizens still remain in Afghanistan, and that the US Military needs a decision from the President on any extension of mission in Kabul by Tuesday.
Should be an interesting next few days...

The E-11 is doing circles around Bagram vicinity...

Looks like there's a TON of activity right now..

Outbound from Kabul:
RCH845 00-0171 C17
RCH840 97-0045 C17
(soon to be outbound)
MOOSE48 06-6164 C17
MOOSE44 02-1105 C17
MOOSE49 04-4132 C17

Inbound to Kabul:
MOOSE56 07-7173 C17
RCH432 01-0193 C17
Spain A400 NAG11FN
RCH857 90-0534 C17
MOOSE40 02-1108 C17

Don't know if it's going to Kabul, but a Qatar C17 A7-MAP LHOB257 looks to be heading in the direction of Kabul..and a second Qater C17 A7-MAM LHOB242 not far behind.

A Safe Air 727 looks to be crossing through afghan airspace, reg: 5Y-IRE.
Looks like it's headed from Muscat.
Prior flights look to have been some random movements with the transponder being turned on/off to and from Nairobi and then a Nairobi - Muscat Sector and now this route.

What's really interesting is it flew as far north as the Afghan/Tajik border and is now making a u turn and heading back south.. I have screen shots of this interesting movement.

Unlikely to be transponder being turned on and off. Coverage in those areas is already very patchy and old frames like 727s don't have full ADSB either.

Any airplane can have ADSB. We have dc3s with ADSB in America

Find it VERY hard to believe they were actually aiming for Kulob. There is nothing there!! Check the orbits before entering Tajik Airspace... 10-1 they didn't check their NOTAMS, Probably headed for Dushanbe, and didn't see that the only runway there is closed daily from 0300-1400 UTC. They landed at Kulob at 0400Z.

They've done international dod flights before and briefly served London commercially, it's definitely unusual, but not shocking. Looks like it's all hands on deck at this point.

More info (and photos) related to Swedish evacuations.

The C130s fly Islamabad-Kabul. The C17s from Heavy Airlift Wing at Papa in Hungary fly Tbilisi-Kabul, so they can keep the engines running and don’t need to refuel. From Islamabad and Tbilisi there are chartered flights to different destinations in Europe.

Good to see the local heavy metal being put to use. The situation is desperate there now that the deadline will not be extended.

This article covers the Italian Air Force Aquila Omnia operation pretty well. Four C-130s (one C-130J and 3 longer C-130J-30s) are currently shuttling people from Kabul to Kuwait City where they are transferred to Italy on three KC-767s.

As per MoD Twitter page, more than 2100 civilians have already been evacuated from Kabul.

Cheers,
MN

Looks like the KAM Air A340 is being chartered by Glenn Beck's Nazarene Fund to help evacuate Afghan Christian converts. He just showed footage on his program from his people on the ground as they were boarding the aircraft.
