A glimmer of hope for the evacuation airbridge, to maybe continue? Taliban wants to engage with Turkey, so Turkey runs the airport:
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-ea ... 021-08-25/
While at the moment, Taliban is adamant that Turkish military must go as well, by August 31, Turkey now has a hand, and can do some horse-trading, possibly extending their military presence at KBL, for a while? Who knows, maybe even getting some years of basing rights?

It seems TUIFly has also been chartered by the Dutch Ministry of Defence to transport evacués from ISB to AMS for a significant upgauge. Previously they were using smaller narrowbodies with a fuel stopover.

Has there been any estimate of the number of persons awaiting a flight sea or are known to be awiating a pick upt? I'm just curious if the aircraft involved in the operation are going out 100% or allow extra standing/seating passengers (like that C-17 with 800 adults and children) to maximize payload. I am dejected thiking that many are likely (I don't know, guessing) to be left behind to an uncertain future only due to US bureacracy, or perhaps in general just bureacracy. I read elsewhere Helos are now being deployed, where they a recent move by the foreign nations to expedite matters? https://www.foxnews.com/world/us-milita ... ue-mission. I am just shocked that it seems there is no contingency plan announced (heck, even during the ethnic genocide of Bosnia etc. there were UN ovservers and no-fly zones). Was a no-fly zone declared at all to prevent those captured aircraft fly by you know who? Earily quiet.

An Air Canada 789 is flying YYZ to KWI currently. Most likely to pick up any Canadian citizens and Afghans who are being evacuated.

The RCAF has two C-17s that have been shuttling between Kuwait and Kabul.

Did anyone see the GTK Rossiya IL-62 on FR24 yesterday? Was coming in at FL350 from the north-west and then disappeared from coverage at Afghanistan border. I assume was headed for Kabul. Reg was RA-86496.

Also have seen two IL-76s departing KBL on RT’s airport webcam. Too far away to be able to tell whom they belong to. Their climb out was even shallower than Kam’s A340.

Ukraine was using their own IL-76 for their citizens though. I really doubt Russia is flying Ukrainians out.

How many gates at KBL can handle widebodies? Are any of them certified for Group V aircraft like the 747-8?

What about the old domestic terminal. Is that still being used?

On a separate note - many flights have been coming back near empty for last two days as people are either not allowed access to the airport ; or not cleared to fly

Belgium has already ceased flying out of KBL and also France will have their last day of flying today.

One of Ukrainian Il-76's (apparently, there was more than one) did two movements out of KBL within 24hrs. First, it shuttled locals to a place in Iran. Depending on who you listen to, either done under duress, or as a favor/mercy mission to save local Shia's from imminent danger of Taliban.
Upon return to Kabul, that same Il-76 embarked Ukraine-bound passengers and continued to KBP.

According to Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign affairs, the main issue continues to be actually getting folks to the KBL airport. Once on the airport compound, things are still manageable, and Il-76's are preparing for further pick-ups. But making it to the airport continues to be (or becomes ever stronger, again depends on who you ask) the greatest challenge.

Just out of interest does anyone know if there is some sort of pecking order as to what evacuees are placed on which flights? I understand why some persons are evacuated first in order of necessity or let’s say, importance maybe. For example QR are operating 77W’s XJD-RMS so who decides who sits in F and who sits in Y etc? Surely all people will be glad to be leaving KBL I’m sure, mostly, and probably could care less if they get away on a QR 777 or an Atlas 763 but is there any way this is managed behind the scenes? Just curious.

The second article clarifies includes this clarification:

26 ago
14:37
Intelligence sources: no shot against Italian C-130
No shooting at an Italian C-130 aircraft: intelligence sources specify that an Afghan machine gun fired into the air to disperse the crowd that was pressing towards the airport gate and no shots were directed towards the aircraft taking off.

Now there is an update, news report that intelligence sources say the machine gun shots were not directed to the plane but "only" shot in the air to disperse the crowd.
Of course shooting in the air at an airport looks like a brilliant move (IMHO).

One C17 just took off after the blast. Didn't turn Transponder on until FL20. Doesn't have a destination. Doesn't have a flight number. Probably headed to Qatar https://www.flightradar24.com/X/28ebf3ba

EDIT: It is just holding/circling around to the east of KBL @ FL23.

Hungary also finished rescue operations yesterday. The two Hungarian Air Force A-319s completed 14 flights between Kabul and Bukhara (Uzbekistan) carrying 540 persons (citizens of Hungary, Austria, the US and 57 afghan families including 180 children). From Bukhara they were taken to Budapest with Wizz Air A-321s. The chief of staff said that sometimes the aircraft were allowed to be on ground only for 30 minutes and the cooperation with the US forces were "not smooth".

Dutch Ministry of Defence announced one C-130 will remain nearby in the region just in case...probably at ISB

... The Dutch armed forces will remain in the region with a C-130 and a small team of soldiers. This C-130 can be deployed quickly if, contrary to expectations, the opportunity arises to bring extra people from Kabul to safety. It has also been agreed with the coalition partners who depart later that small numbers of evacuees with final destination in the Netherlands can be taken on their flights...

There is something sketchy with this. I don't think it's the 727 and is something else using that hex. It was MLAT tracked out of Nairobi and then supposedly sat tracked landing at Kulob 15 minutes later. Impossible. There are many other similar discrepancies, including several showing it cruising at FL410 which is impossible for a 727. FR for today seems to indicate whatever it is, was at Kabul 0643z to 0730z, so if anyone follows the webcams they may be able to ID it.
