Illinois is back on Allegiant this season for their first trip over to CHO to face UVA: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KCMI/KCHO

Liberty is also on Allegiant today for their flight down to MGM to face Troy: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KLYH/KMGM

Morgan State is on Sun Country out of BWI down to BHM to face Tulane at their temporary home, Legion Field: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KBWI/KBHM

Wyoming is on Sun Country for their flight over to Rockford (RFD) to face Northern Illinois: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KLAR/KRFD

Georgia Southern is on Sun Country out of SAV for a quick hop down to FLL to face FAU: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KSAV/KFLL

South Alabama is headed up from BFM on Sun Country to TOL to face Bowling Green tomorrow: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KBFM/KTOL

Eastern Michigan with a quick flight on Allegiant over to Madison to face Wisconsin: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KYIP/KMSN

App State also flew down to FLL on Sun Country, but they are facing Miami: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KHKY/KFLL

Western Carolina just landed in OKC for their matchup in Norman with Oklahoma after a two hour Allegiant flight: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KAVL/KOKC

Texas State is over the Gulf of Mexico for their trip from AUS to MIA on Sun Country to face FIU tomorrow: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KAUS/KMIA

I suspect that this is Georgia State headed up to RDU to face UNC on an iAero 737-800. That could be bus distance, and this could be something else but could make sense either way: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SWQ ... /KATL/KRDU

Convenient positioning for Sun Country. The aircraft that took Portland State to PUW turned right around to take Idaho over to BMG to face Indiana: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KPUW/KBMG

I don’t believe that’s the Longhorns. I think this is the additional flight United added from Austin to XNA due to the game, but it is not the team.

UA has been using the 2500-2550 flight number range for charter flights recently, so that's definitely the team charter. If it was a fan extra section, would be something in the 2700 range, or possibly a regularly scheduled flight number to make it easier for public booking.

Austin to Fayetteville was one of the 74 college football focused adds that United added this fall. Route planning is having to get creative finding how to squeeze as much revenue as possible out of their aircraft.

Non-aviation related, but SEMO will be bussing to Mizzou for the Saturday game sometime later this week; MU will be flying to Boston College next weekend - more to come next week!

Just did a quick check on delta.com for Alabama's usual flight number, 8891, to see what their travel plans were for Florida this weekend. Looks like they'll be on the usual 757 into OCF and not GNV on Friday. Presume that this is hotel related.

That’s correct. The visiting team playing UF almost always stays at the Ocala Hilton. They will fly out of GNV on Saturday evening after the game.

Only one game tomorrow (Ohio vs Lafayette) and two on Friday (UCF vs Louisville and Maryland vs Illinois), so the early part of this week is rather quiet. Should be two flights tomorrow for those two games, and a few flights on the legacies are showing up on Friday for Saturday's slate.

Ohio is headed down to LFT to face the Cajuns on Allegiant today out of Rickenbacker (LCK): https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KLCK/KLFT

Michigan State down to MIA out of LAN on a Delta 737-900 to face the Hurricanes: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KLAN/KMIA

Nebraska on a United 737-900 down to OKC to face the Sooners: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KLNK/KOKC

Auburn is on a Delta 757-200 out of CSG for the trip up to State College for a big matchup with Penn State: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KCSG/KUNV

FCS action from today with Alabama A&M flying down to DAB from HSV on iAero to face off with Bethune Cookman tomorrow night: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SWQ ... /KHSV/KDAB

Nevada is headed to MHK tomorrow on a JetBlue A320 for their Saturday matchup with K-State, abnormal sight for the people in the Manhattan, KS area: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU ... /KRNO/KMHK

Florida State headed up to GSO on a Delta 757-200 on Friday to face Wake Forest: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KTLH/KGSO

USC is on a UA 737-900 for their flight up to LWS to face Washington State, a bit surprised that they're using LWS and not PUW. PUW does have a longer runway and handles mainline charters often, might be because of hotels, as is often the case, but I would think that the visiting team usually stays in Pullman to face Wash State?: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KLAX/KLWS

Northwestern is headed over to RDU for Duke on a UA 737-900: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KORD/KRDU

Stanford over to BNA to face Vandy on a UA 757-300, nice catch for those in Nashville as well: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KSJC/KBNA

Iowa State is likely on board this G4 flight over to Vegas for the big game with UNLV on Saturday: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KDSM/KLAS

A pair of Sun Country fan charters or extra flights for team personnel, guessing they are fan charters though, are en route to Vegas. Allegiant has 6 flights, not including the team flight, on the route today, as they added multiple extra sections to DSM-LAS today and tomorrow take fans to Vegas. That’s quite a substantial number: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KDSM/KLAS
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KDSM/KLAS

A very long, cross-country flight for Stony Brook over to Eugene, OR out of ISP on Sun Country to face Oregon: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KISP/KEUG

UCF is also on Allegiant today to head up to SDF to face Louisville: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KSFB/KSDF

Quite a lot of flights in this post, for those who are interested, including more FCS action than I’ve included in the past:

Boston College with a rather quick Northeast flight over to PHL to face Temple on JetBlue: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU ... /KBOS/KPHL

Baylor is on a United 737-900 out of ACT over to FOE to face Kansas: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KACT/KFOE

Long Island is on GlobalX again this week to head over to CVG out of FRG to face Miami-OH: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/GXA ... /KFRG/KCVG

Arkansas State is on JetBlue out of MEM for the long journey up to Sea Tac to face Washington: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU ... /KMEM/KSEA

Lot of JetBlue charters this weekend. This one is FIU on an A321 over to Lubbock to face TX Tech: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU ... /KMIA/KLBB

Tulsa is on Allegiant over to CMH to face Ohio State tomorrow: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KTUL/KCMH

Eastern Michigan is also on Allegiant over to BAF out of Willow Run to face UMass: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KYIP/KBAF

Ball State is flying into FNL for their matchup with Wyoming in Laramie on Sun Country, somewhat surprised they’re not going into Laramie: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KMIE/KFNL

Middle Tennessee is on Allegiant for the trip down to SAT to face UTSA: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KMQY/KSAT

East Carolina on Allegiant also over to HTS for Marshall: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KPGV/KHTS

Western Michigan on iAero over to PIT: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SWQ ... /KAZO/KPIT

UAB on Sun Country over to AFW to face North Texas: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KBHM/KAFW

Now, this is a fun one. Every now and then, one of these pops up, and I love it. South Carolina State is en route to ELP out of CAE on a World Atlantic MD-83 to face New Mexico State: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/WAL ... /KCAE/KELP

First charter on American that I’ve seen this year, Arizona State up to PVU to face BYU on an AA A321neo: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAL ... /KPHX/KPVU

San Jose State was on Sun Country last night for the trans-Pacific journey over to HNL to face Hawaii: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KSJC/PHNL

Colorado State is headed over to TOL on Sun Country to face Toledo: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KFNL/KTOL

Ivy League action!! Harvard flew down to IAD this morning on Sun Country for their matchup with Georgetown tomorrow: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KBOS/KIAD

Dartmouth is also flying this weekend for their trip to Valparaiso, and they’re on an Allegiant A319 into SBN: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY ... /KMHT/KSBN

Some more FCS action with William and Mary headed up on that same Sun Country aircraft to SYR to face Colgate: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KPHF/KSYR

San Diego is on Sun Country over to BZN to face Montana State: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KSAN/KBZN

Eastern Washington is en route to MLI to face Western Illinois on Sun Country: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KGEG/KMLI

Lamar is on their way to FNL out of Beaumont, TX on Sun Country to face Northern Colorado: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KBPT/KFNL

North Dakota State is on a Delta 737-800 over to BWI to face Towson: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KFAR/KBWI

Most schools fly direct to PUW these days, a runway expansion project has recently completed to allow easy access for mainline charters. I suspect some schools haven't gotten out of "the old way of doing things" which was to fly into LWS and bus up to Pullman for the game. I'd be willing to bet USC will fly out of PUW on the return trip. In fact here is the charter to pick them up.

Doesn't look like that flight ever flew, but there was a JBU flight on an A320 that departed ISP for CVG at about midnight last night, arriving 1:31am. Last-minute scramble?

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU ... /KISP/KCVG

Seems like N276GX of Global Crossing made it to FRG but then never left...

BTW: On Global X's A320, it's 180 seats. 28" pitch. Ouch. Allegiant's A320s have 30", Sun Country's 738s have 29" minimum. Spirit of course is also 28". I'm thinking that Football players would prefer JetBlue at 32".

Wow! I had forgotten that these guys were even still in business. Their 7 operating MD80s appear to be quite busy, though, with what looks like government charters for repatriation and such. Based on announcements in the past few days, I will be interested to see if they end up making a number of flights to the island of Hispaniola.

Good catch! The JetBlue flight definitely seems like a last second scramble. They’ve been on GlobalX for their last two games, so I’m sure the players appreciated the upgrade, but maybe not the late departure

Right. The outbound from LWS is cancelled and UA sent another aircraft to PUW to take them home when they're done. This is a big issue with charters: you have your equipment going into places where you're not using your own (or usual) people and the ground handling can be of varying quality.

Does anyone have insight into what these college charters cost hourly? Ie. A DL 757 or A321 vs a DL 737-900ER vs a US 737 or Allegiant A320?

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Mizzou will fly to BED from COU using two SCX B738s for the Boston College game scheduled for this Saturday:

Flight 1 (SCX8619):
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KCOU/KBED

Flight 2 (SCX8608):
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KCOU/KBED

Also the first time the halves of Mizzou's team will be flying out of COU in two planes instead of sending one of the halves to STL to fly out of.

Hawaii is playing at New Mexico State this weekend, so I’m not sure what their plan is for travel. Looks like they’re traveling today, based on their Twitter, but have no info on the specifics. My guess is that they’re on a regular HA flight to LAX or PHX, and then, they will charter over to ELP from there. Keeping an eye out for charters to ELP.

Georgia with its usual convoy of Delta 717s due to runway length at AHN over to BNA to face Vandy: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KAHN/KBNA https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KAHN/KBNA

LSU will fly into TUP to face Miss State on a Delta 757-200, aircraft will ferry over to GTR after it drops the team off in Tupelo: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /KBTR/KTUP

FIU with a nice ride on a JetBlue A321 up to MBS to face Central Michigan: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU ... /KMIA/KMBS

Texas Tech is on a United 737-900 over to Austin to face off with the Longhorns: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KLBB/KAUS

San Jose State is en route to AZO to face Western Michigan on Sun Country, long haul: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/SCX ... /KSJC/KAZO

Texas A&M will be on a United 737-900 for the trip over to DFW to face Arkansas: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL ... /KDFW/KCLL

Flight 2 (SCX8608):

Also the first time the halves of Mizzou's team will be flying out of COU in two planes instead of sending one of the halves to STL to fly out of.

I understand that COU has runway construction, but I think it would save Mizzou a TON of money by doing the 100 mile drive to STL and use ONE plane. :?

Anyone have any idea why Wyoming's flight to BDL (to play UConn) is making a stop in MSP?https://flightaware.com/live/findflight?origin=KLAR&destination=KBDL

Noticed that while doing my write up and thought it was peculiar. Probably weight-restricted on fuel with a short runway at LAR and a long flight, so I'm guessing it's a quick refueling stop

LAR is over 7,000 in altitude, 738 might not be able to take off with enough fuel to get to BDL, thus fuel stop required.

This catches me by surprise. Is WSU now using Allegiant instead of AS this year? Cost saving move, perhaps?

Looks like Arkansas headed down to DFW to face Texas A&M in Arlington on a UA 739 today. I don’t remember the last season that a full service legacy was used for Arkansas.

Tough question. Most of the airlines have a "sticker price" somewhere on their website you can find.

Most that I have been involved in are a rate based on the mileage of the trip.
On top of that there are marketing and trade considerations
School gives airline some $$ + printed ads in the GameDay program + signage in stadium + time slots in the tv broadcast + radio ads + complimentary tickets for local airport staff, etc
Airline carries team for 4, 5, 6 road games, plus first option to carry them for post season, etc

Other big consideration is how the flight will be catered. Use the airlines kitchen? Where from? You likely aren't flying to and from a location that has catering on e ither end. That might mean adding a 3rd party to the mix, or a 3rd party the airline already works with for box lunches, snacks, and drinks. Drinks are big for us. Each person on the flight gets a Gatorade and a water when they board, then when we land another one, plus they are available if we want them during the flight.
(Of course some flights are 45 minutes, others are a couple hours. (Southeast US, so our longest regular trip is about 3 hours flying, but most are about 45 minutes)

**disclaimer: I am not currently involved in charter booking in my current role, but used to work with the group that did it for our department, so this info may have changed in the last few years as the airlines and "common practices" evolve.

Does anyone have insight into what these college charters cost hourly? Ie. A DL 757 or A321 vs a DL 737-900ER vs a US 737 or Allegiant A320?

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

And that was USU's game last week. They are home today against Boise St, in just over an hour.

Seems like there’s been a lot of 737-900 charters this season. I’ve always thought the -900 would be a good charter a/c (as long as you unload back to front) and I hope the trend Continues

I'm pretty sure they were on the Southwest flight that I listed earlier, not sure what the Avelo flight was. They've been operating ELP-MFE-JAX quite a bit under a 84** series number. This one continued onto HOU from ELP and then HPN, so I'm not sure exactly what it was. Could be ICE charters. Hawaii has used Southwest a few times, IIRC, and it would make sense for them to fly commercial as close as they can on HA, which would be to PHX.

Above are the charters for the NFL teams this week. All of them, sans the Chicago Bears, have a widebody. My question is, why do the NFL teams get a widebody, but seemingly have less personnel to send to games. College teams have a larger roster, more coaches and trainers, cheer squad, and many times some wealthy boosters or the band are allowed to travel with the team. I am quite astonished to see some college teams travelling cross country on a A320 or 737, especially considering the size of some of the players. Do the airlines charge more to the NFL teams? Do NFL teams request widebodies? Or is it the same price for all football team and the airline makes the decision on what equipment to send to pick them up?

Fyi, college teams don't take the full roster on the road, max travel roster is 70 for most college conferences, and they have a smaller support staff due to NCAA regulations than the NFL does.

For the most part outside of bowl/playoff games, they can fit everyone on one plane and it saves on $$.
