Above are the charters for the NFL teams this week. All of them, sans the Chicago Bears, have a widebody. My question is, why do the NFL teams get a widebody, but seemingly have less personnel to send to games. College teams have a larger roster, more coaches and trainers, cheer squad, and many times some wealthy boosters or the band are allowed to travel with the team. I am quite astonished to see some college teams travelling cross country on a A320 or 737, especially considering the size of some of the players. Do the airlines charge more to the NFL teams? Do NFL teams request widebodies? Or is it the same price for all football team and the airline makes the decision on what equipment to send to pick them up?

Most likely. South Bend to downtown Chicago can take as little as 90 minutes (though traffic can be really bad on I-80 between NW IN and I-294 in IL). Looks like Wisconsin drove from Madison, that's only about a 2.5 hour drive.

A21Ns have an approximate range of 3500nmi. The distance between ELP and HNL is 2803nmi. Wouldn't that enable the charter to bypass OAK completely? I am not a pilot so I'm assuming you don't want to practically risk running on empty in the middle of the Pacific given that weight, wind resistance, jet stream, etc., can vary and could affect fuel consumption. Am I correct?

FlightAware isn’t showing the intermediary leg, which will fly the team, but Auburn will fly out of CSG on a Delta 737-800 over to LFT for LSU. Aircraft will ferry to BTR after the game. I’m guessing that this is due to hotel options in Baton Rouge post-hurricane: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL8892

That’s quite interesting. I guess they’re going to fly back to Arkansas on a bunch of RJs, so that they can leave Athens quicker than headed back to Atlanta to catch a charter back home. Can’t do 717s out of AHN because of the contract with United

Ah I didn't think about them wanting to get home faster, win or lose. Going to be rough for those guys in the third one which is both last and a 145 at that.

Here is the tracking information about this unusual WN 737 flight to COU (though I would like to see WN fly to COU for regular service someday!):

Don't want to go off topic, but upon looking at flightradar24.com and confirming it on FlightAware, it is the WN B737 that was recently painted in Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary livery (N954WN):

A missed opportunity for a plane spotting of this aircraft in a rare livery like this!

North Texas was on Allegiant for every road game that required a flight last year, so I anticipate that is what they will be on for Mizzou game, although as we’ve noted earlier, runway construction might mean they don’t fly into COU.
I suspect that N954WN was likely there for an ICE flight or military movement, was more likely than not government related. The ferry from DAL was the 86** number, and then, it operated whatever charter it was operating to LRD under a 74** number. There seems to have been a lot of ICE movement in and out of LRD in recent weeks.

Hmm. Hopefully not another LWS tail tip. But why another LWS visit rather than PUW? Lower cost?
