9/11 ACARS message

Sat Sep 11, 2021 1:17 am

Hi, can someone confirm whether this is legitimate? I see it going around on social media and if it is legit, does anyone know the background on it? Who it was sent to? Who sent it?

Thanks

Appears legit. Would've been sent to the active flights/flight crews that were the responsibility of the dispatcher who sent the message.

Apologies for being a little off topic here but this is related to 9/11. I always thought the story of Delta 1989 was very interesting to read. It fit the profile of the rest of the hijacked planes and the FAA did initially think the plane was hijacked. It was thankfully not and landed at Cleveland. Transcripts of conversations about the aircraft and the timeline can be found here. https://rutgerslawreview.com/7-another-mistaken-report-delta-flight-1989/

It's legit. Mick was an AA dispatcher, that was the ACARS message he sent that morning.

Let's try and avoid politics here and keep the convo focused on the OP and the message that was sent out to aircraft.

Its interesting to read. I recall so many of those stuck in Gander talking about the very bit by bit, cryptic, too hard to believe information they were receiving. As a pilot you don't want to frighten your passengers, but you need to be honest.

I met one of the pilots from that flight several years ago and until that day had no clue about that flight. We got our work done and we were BS’ing when he found out I had a degree in aerospace engineering and the conversation naturally ended up leading to “that flight.” Hearing the story directly from him was crazy. Hope he’s doing well.
