Could D7 operate an direct flights to SYD/MEL from LGK?

To add to what was posted above. Don't think they'll (D7) be willing to apply for 5th freedom rights between LGK and Australia.

It may be a JQ route though, probably from DRW in the interim (would had been PER otherwise pre-COVID). Then the A321LRs may be looked at from an East Coast capital airport.

Why would they need 5th freedom? LGK is in Malayasia.

My mistake. Had mistaken LGK for Lombok (which is LOP).

Although I don't think D7 has a base at Lombok. It would be a AK short haul base.

Hawaiian has opened up additional frequencies for SYD, initially announced at 3 weekly and look like it will increase to 5 weekly

I was wondering why 3K don't fly to LGK. They do fly to PEN though.

LGK could always be operated by TR via SIN, TR/SQ both have done some creative 5th freedom flights in EU currently to pickup some passengers.

Likewise QF could operate it with connections onto Jetstar Asia from SIN. The only issue is there are currently still restrictions between SG and MY which make it easier to get from AU to SG than it is for the short trip from SG to MY but there is talk that the causeway to Johor Bahru and the rest of peninsula Malaysia will reopen soon.

Does anyone know if modification works have commenced for QF’s A330s to operate transpacific routes from BNE?

There was a separate post of -ZND damaged in BNE.

Qantas' special livery Yam Dreaming 787-9, registration VH-ZND was parked on the ground at BNE when a storm gust and tornado caused the aircraft to come unchocked, sway and ground service equipment and debris to hit the aircraft. Unknown fuselage damage occurred however unconfirmed reports state that the fuselage may have been impacted.

That’s just insane when you think about the mass of the plane. The wind gusts must have been in the cyclonic range.

That’s not true. Virgin crew have been briefed on the cabin differences between these aircraft and existing 737’s. They definitely will be entering service with the silkair seats.

IWQ won’t be, but perhaps IJQ will be.

It appears that EK will bring back A380 on SYD-DXB earlier than initially planned. EK415 on 27/12/2021 is now scheduled to be an A380. Hardly surprising.

Had a look through, the current change from 77W to A380 is on Dec 2nd.

LGK is a great holiday destination - we go up there twice a year. The connection via SIN is really simple but would welcome a direct! It's a very popular destination for the Russians and the Arabs. Whilst there are Australians up there, I've observed less over the last 12 years which is a shame. The people are amazing. It doesn't have the beaches of Bali and the water, whilst blue, is perpetually 'cloudy' but it has a couple of really nice resorts and attracts a more mature demographic. Cenang Beach is the most popular but Tanjung Rhu is the best beach IMO
I highly recommend it but it would need some serious marketing to increase awareness of it as a destination - I'd think it is largely unknown to many Australians.

Emirates A380 back to Sydney on December 1, same day as the SQ A380 returns, SYD social media should declare Dec1 as 'Superjumbo Day'.
https://www.executivetraveller.com/news ... n-december

Also, Hawaiian Airlines resumes HNL-SYD from December 15
https://www.executivetraveller.com/news ... ecember-15

All this activity shows what happens when a state reopens, no doubt MEL will soon see a similar uptick in airline activity, although even on Friday after its 'no quarantine from Nov1' announcement QF, SIN and CX all made moves. Wonder if this will add to pressure on QLD to follow suit or if they'll decide that there's more gains to be made by opening to NSW and VIC tourists and travellers?

I expect that will be the case as overseas tourists can't come here anyway and I think most Australians will not be very happy to holiday within Australia this summer and even for a lot of next year, much 'safer' and less risky than going overseas.

I expect the next uptick in airline activity and announcements will occur when NSW/VIC are allowed to accept students, tourists, and other travelers. Both premiers and the PM have mentioned that this is possible before Xmas. At the moment the vast majority of traffic will be Australians visiting family or being visited by family from Europe/UK and America

Does seem slightly hopeful that QLD will stick to there word, around targets of there domestic boarder opening. Although it maybe told late for ZL’s 738 services from VIC and NSW. With overseas travel happening from these states from next month, surely the temptation to goto Bali etc will be huge.

Would ZL be far more useful using there 738s on the Bali bus run from SYD/MEL?

Returning students probably won't be too much of an uptick in flight activity rather the current freight-only Chinese flights will revert to also carrying passengers on the Australia-bound leg at least.

A quick search on qantas.com for July next was routing SYD-MEL-SIN, all on QF, then SIN-KUL-LGK on MH and only J class available.

One would reasonably fly MEL- or SYD-KUL-LGK (in economy or business) on MH, rather than that malarkey.

REX has to apply for an international AOC (if they wish to go international in the future), plus they also have to apply for international rights via the IASC and the respective countries.

QF888 PER-ADL operated by 738 VH-VZT diverted to KGI last night after the aircraft suffered an engine problem, it’s unclear what the engine problem was though it is being reported as the engine just stopping

Initially passengers where going to be kept in KGI overnight however another aircraft was ferried to KGI to ferry passengers back to overnight in PER

That makes sense. I don't think the 788s have much international work in January apart from SIN 3 times a week. I assume the domestic 788s flights will reduce greatly as DPS and HKT come back from February onwards. There are rumours of DPS starting earlier but JQ still showing it as beginning of Feb.

Whilst January can be muggy in CNS, when I've been there I've found most of the rain tends to fall in the evenings and the days are OK. Over a week, you''d probably expect rain every night and 2-3 wet days.

There are still plenty of deals to be had in North Qld whilst there are no international tourists coming in. This will probably continue for a while as Chinese tourists are still a while from coming back in any sort of volume for both COVID and political reasons.

SA to gradually phase out border restrictions from 23NOV

- From 23rd November - domestic travellers to SA will no longer need to quarantine, while international travellers will see quarantine halved to 7 days
- When the state hits 90% doubly vaccinated (12+, currently expected after 25th December according to the ABC) - SA will drop all quarantine restrictions.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-26/ ... /100568660

I wonder if WA will ever open up to the rest of the country and the world now….

3. 9V-MGH 44224 / 5148 to be registered as VH-IJW
4. 9V-MGI 44225 / 5260 to be registered as VH-IWQ (delivered to VA on 24 Sep 2021)
5. 9V-MGJ 44226 / 5355 to be registered as VH-IXJ
6. 9V-MGP 44232 / 5924 to be registered as VH-IWX
7. 9V-MGQ 44233 / 6121 to be registered as VH-IWY

I assume the differences between IJ*, IW* and IX* is reflective of the underlying lessor. Is that correct?

Good point there, thank you for asking. Did a bit of research, apparently there isn't a pattern on terms of lessors, for now at least.
1. VH-IJQ Avolon
2. VH-IJU Avolon
3. VH-IJW ??
4. VH-IWQ Avolon
5. VH-IXJ ??
6. VH-IWX ??
7. VH-IWY ??

Does anyone know why a MIAT Mongolian 738 is on route over central Qld right now, coming from DRW and heading towards BNE or maybe onwards to NZ?

Oh man, I hope they picked the rego knowing full well it was going to send avgeeks into a spin haha

My head was spinning when I saw this B77W on finals for 11C/29C :)

At least they've updated the image! Last week it was still showing an image of the VA 77W, so I legit thought it was a 777 coming out of Bankstown which is why I did a double-take.

Every so often in a spotters page on FB, somebody will post a screenshot of FR24 and ask why is this VA B777 flying so low and slow?

MIAT was doing regular chartered flights on behalf of Rio Tinto last year in/out of PER, could be something similar.

Mining related, that would make sense. I was first thinking maybe a fishing boat crew swap in CHC but that is usually Uzbekistan Airways twice a year, if I remember correctly.

I saw it reported on news.com.au (I know, I know) where they stated it was a fuel problem.

Maybe I’ll wait until it’s listed on AVherald for more info.

Cheers

I really hope those Dreamliner loads of pax didn't just see JQ sale tickets and booked without thinking about the fact it's wet season in CNS.

I was in CNS in the first week of December last year. The first 4.5 days were moderately muggy and then just like that, the humidity went from about 60% to 80%. And that is noticeable.

You’re spot on about deals. A lot of local operators have suffered immensely due to CoVid and welcome business.

Also, it was an interesting spotters week for some reason. The USAF had some staff staying at the Hilton where I was. Had a quick chat and they said they were just “doing some work with the RAAF”. There was both a RAAF and USAF C17 visible. I think it was the following day there seemed to be something massive but it was hard to tell from the distance I was at. I guessed maybe it may have been a C5.

Cheers

I think a lot of people will be just happy to get away, for many just being at a resort where the kids can be in the pool and someone else can cook your meals will be enough for plenty of Victorians!

Jetstar sale was insane.

I got $258 return Melbourne to Honolulu and $440 return Gold Coast to Tokyo.

I am hoping the uncertainty of demand as more and more airlines come back online sees them throwing these cheap fares everywhere.

I go to Cairns most summers, it’s a great time to go. Bit muggy as it is most of the time, but awesome time to visit the rainforest and local swimming spots, plus the reef of course, dive conditions are generally a bit better.
