In the crossword puzzle, I see the name Fernando. The music group ABBA has a song called Fernando. I believe ABBA is from Stockholm. Hmmm......

If there’s some routes out of EWR, I could see adds like EWR-SVQ/BLQ/OSL being some possibilities.

Also, the first name of the man driving the cart is Maximillian. That made me think of Archduke Maximilian, who was born in Vienna. That could be a possibility.

IAH-ACC/LAD (tag)

LAX-LGW
IAD-OPO
IAD-VIE
EWR-PDL
EWR-NCE
DEN-FCO

I really am hoping for:

ORD-BOG or LIM
ORD-BCN
ORD-ATH

but until the Global Terminal (T2) is built at ORD, I don't see UA having much room to add much of anything. Hopefully we will at least resume all of the pre-COVID routes.

Great opportunity window, due to AZ folding and ITA not picking up the FCO ORD market (for the moment)

LAX-ARN

LAX-LGW

Definitely no on both of these. The US 3 have had a difficult time making any non-LHR route work from LAX. If they can't make FRA or CDG work, no way they are going to fly LAX-ARN which is a much smaller market. Also keep in mind that when SK returned to LAX, they initially served ARN-LAX before moving the flight over to CPH.

LGW also not happening. UA doesn't serve LGW at all (and in fact has never served LGW). If they were to ever open it as a station, it would be to fly EWR/ORD/IAD-LGW.

Depends on the disporia from whatever hub United uses vs the hub American tried.

Thats my guess.

Given the Euro centric nature of these, its hard to imagine IAH, DEN, SFO, or LAX being involved. I suppose LAX is a possibility since the trailer was shot there, but almost everything is shot in Los Angeles across all industries.

Id guess these routes are going to be out of EWR, IAD, and/or ORD.

IAD-VIE doesn't make sense. Route is served by OS which is owned by LH with whom UA has a JV.

IAH-LAD, by far, the most lucrative US-LAD market.

NYC-ATH has 5 daily flights. 2x DL and 1x EK/AA/UA. Obviously ORD-ATH is smaller (5x smaller?) but would not be surprised if UA could make it work especially with their hub at ORD (and dedicate EWR solely for east coast).

Look at all the European routes AA had out of ORD in the 80s and look what they have now. Compare that to what UA had in the 80s and what they have at ORD now.

UA seems to do far, far better to mainland Europe than AA and they can probably do the same with ATH if they wanted.

I truly believe that all the new routes will be in Europe. UA is betting on Summer 2022 being the return of transatlantic traffic, and based on what I am hearing and seeing, they will be correct.

As far as some of the guesses above, UA has already loaded all of these into the system and are available for purchase...

EWR-NCE
EWR-SNN
EWR-PRG
EWR-OPO
EWR-EDI
EWR-ARN
EWR-DBV
EWR-NAP
EWR-OSL (SAS service)

I can't remember how many are resumption of service or new service.

I believe NCE is the only new one. It was announced for summer of 2020 but never happened. I believe EWR-PMO was another route in that same boat.

Agreed. ORD is a smaller market than NYC but not nearly 5x smaller. Also, ORD is able to offer more connections to a larger swathe of the US than EWR, that is what is needed for the ATH market.

That's what I thought but Edinburgh is pretty well served by United. The pre-covid summer timetable was a daily service to ORD, ERD and IAD with EWR running throughout the year.

I can't see there being enough demand to justify something from the west coast.

DBV was also AA territory, until this year. If UA wants it, they'll launch a flight.

United would be smart to accommodate to WN passengers. WN has been a mess this summer and UA can show that they are a much improved product compared to WN. Hopefully UA can attract some WN passengers to their network! DEN would be a great place to start.

Accommodate them on what? UA's flights are going out full already.

That logic means that LAX could also get a splurge since we got the MSC and maybe a huge expansion later down the line when T9 comes online(Which is all but certain right now). The only thing that is needed at this point is approval from the city of LA and my home airport gets an awesome expansion.

Isn't something around 30% of passengers on SFO-TLV-SFO connecting to/from LAX?

Yes, but how much expansion will UA go for at LAX with a hypothetical T9 without cannibalizing SFO? And on that note, I'm also not optimistic about LAX getting any additions this time around. LAX made a clear appearance in the last clue video and we got nothing.

United held a media event tonight in Manhattan. There’s a lid on the reporting until tomorrow’s reveal, sounds more than just restoring seasonal routes from last Summer.

Southwest passengers have been spilling over into any open seats they can find and afford. I know several coworkers who got stuck in various cities this weekend who had to rent a car or pay huge dollars for a confirmed seat. Flights that had 25-30 open seats all of the sudden had 0, network-wide. I know I was loosely planning on a trip this week on Tuesday but was unable to go because my flight went from 18 open seats to oversold. The same trip next week which was my backup is also filling up fast. Way faster than usual this late into the booking window.

Southwest really messed up a lot of people's travel plans this month because of their meltdown this weekend, not just their own.

Never underestimate the power of marketing. They'll spin it as new routes (they already have), and only a.net geeks like us will know the difference. Meanwhile the news will be plastered all over the media and that's all that matters.

On a potential LAX-MUC/FRA, Does LAX T7 now have space to acommodate a widebody European arrival/departure since PVG and LHR (the 2 main UA intl flights that ran in the afternoon) are not operating.

We are not getting them all at once. We will take a few gates at a time to allow the airport to shuffle DL, F9, and AA around as needed. Also, we don't have the manpower to take that many gates over a single quarter. We will begin taking those gates in early 2022 but it could take a year or more to actually take possession of all of them, from what I have heard from local leadership.

Are they meant to be new routes or restarts as well? With the Singapore government announcing the vaccinated travel lane with the US, I could see UA resuming LAX-SIN and/or SFO-SIN. Potentially EWR-SIN which could give them a minor upper hand as from EWR you can connect up and down the East Coast whereas SQ's SIN-JFK flight basically offers no connections. SQ used to codeshare with B6 but seems that's gone now. In fact, I'm flying SIN-JFK in a few weeks and connecting to a DL flight to FLL on separate tickets. However, I would still do this even if UA could offer a seamless SIN-EWR-FLL connection, although I am sure many who would prefer to book all in one ticket.

On a potential LAX-MUC/FRA, Does LAX T7 now have space to acommodate a widebody European arrival/departure since PVG and LHR (the 2 main UA intl flights that ran in the afternoon) are not operating.

UAL operations at LAX are split tbh. Any overflow intl widebodies are pushed to TBIT. That's why United is so keen to expand into T9 once it comes online. T7/8 can be used for mostly narrowbody flights with some widebodies while T9 takes United's long haul fleet. Considering PVG/HND are gone for now, T7 does have space.
