Anyone know why Vistara's 787s make occasional trips to ICN from Chennai? Is it a cargo flight?
Passenger charters. I was at MAA when one of these were boarding. Before Vistara, AI had the contract and used to fly once a week or so.

Interesting. Do you know more? Is it private charters or business charters? Who are they carrying? I am assuming it is MAA-ICN and an empty return? Or is it occupied both ways? Who needs a charter once a week?

No idea on the specifics, but there are a lot of Korean companies in and around Chennai who might need to move employees/cargo, with the absence of the usual one-stop options (BKK, KUL, HKG etc). Not sure if it's occupied on the ICN-MAA sector, might very well be.

Supposedly there are several South Korean restaurants in and round Madras to cater to the expats.

What do people think about Akasa Air? They have ordered 72 737 MAX 8 and are planning to start operation next year.

Do you think they will get off the ground even? Or do they stand a chance?

How did they come up with the figure of 72? Do they know where they are going to operate?

Not sure of the people sentiment on the ground but Akasa Air should be waiting in glee for Spicejet to collapse. Not neccessary it will happen, but if it does, that's one competitor out of the window.

As for B737MAX, Boeing has some NTUs still lying around which can offer to Akasa Air really quickly. Jet Airways's NTUs are all taken up already.

They have yet to announce their routes apart from being based at Bangalore, but their big dream to have 70 airframes in 4 years can be a disaster if they do not plan carefully.

Does anyone know how AA's JFK-DEL is doing?

I am part of a H1B/H4 Visa group on FB and someone had posted a very negative and quite frankly surprising review of AA. Apparently they flew SFO-JFK-DEL on AA and were told the flight was out of water (!?) about 4 hours before landing and were not served the last meal because per FA announcement "they ran out of time". I am a bit skeptical about this but multiple people in the replies have echoed similar or at least extremely negative feedback. So just thought I'd ask the question.

I flew JFK-DEL on 12/1 and it was a pleasant flight. The route taken is weird apparently because AA does not have permission to use Russian airspace for this flight but other than that nothing out of ordinary. Flight left slightly late, but reached on time. Service was typical AA - not memorable but professional.

Ultra Low cost.... would mean low salaries & only Line maintenance with Higher checks going to MROs.
