Yes the CZ A380 has been to MEL every Wednesday on a weekly rotation, at least for the last few weeks/months. Quite interesting because I don’t think MEL ever saw it before the pandemic, at least not regularly? Used to be 777s or A330s as far as I can recall (happy to be corrected).

They flew A380 to MEL right until the pandemic (in fact I recall service started Nov'19 or sometime close)

During the pandemic they resumed MEL after being granted an "award flight" by CAAC for a few months' weekly SYD flights without carrying inbound positive cases.

If either of the flights carries more than five positive COVID cases inbound you'll instantly see the flight gone - and that'll last a few months at the least.

I have two questions. Firstly, I noticed that Jetstar are using T3 at Perth, which is confirmed on both the Jetstar and Perth Airport websites. Am I going crazy, or didn’t they move to T2 before the pandemic? Second, does anyone know if any of the exit rows on Jetstar A321s (rows 1, 11, 26) have a window? Or it just a solid wall next to the seat and then the door?

I had a window near Door R2 on A321 a few years ago. No window, just a solid wall. There is a small fish-eye window in the door. I believe Row 1 has a window however.

I had a window near Door R2 on A321 a few years ago. No window, just a solid wall. There is a small fish-eye window in the door. I believe Row 1 has a window however.

VA moved all flights to T2 at the start of the pandemic and T1 domestic was closed for the majority of last year. They have reopened T1 this year with all RPT flights out of T1 and FIFO out of T2.

I was under the impression that the metro line running through the site is going to be a cut/cover tunnel. Seems odd that they would do this after the earth works have been completed.

First time to Phuket? I was lucky enough to get there in early 2020 just before the lockdowns started. I stayed at the Katathani Beach Resort in Kata Noi. Absolutely beautiful.

Great to see tourists heading back as I’m sure they would have been devastated by the loss of the tourism industry.

You need to remember they're only building around half of the airport complex now. There will be plenty of room to build the rail line for years too come.

Tourism Australia has been placing their adverts throughout electronic signs in the DFW airport the past few weeks. With the opening of Australia they must be amping up international tourism by the proposed date. Should be fun to see if Qantas will activate the DFW flight.

A lightly loaded A380 can land with about 1600 metres of runway, so as long as you never want it to leave, Longreach with 1900 metres is possible.

OQA would be a great museum piece not only because it is QFs first A380, a famous and loved aircraft among the general flying public. But also because of the QF32 story and it’s repair and return to service. The problem is it’s a big asset and there wouldn’t be many places that could take it and maintain it to give it justice. HARs probably wouldn’t take it as they have the 747 and not sure they have the need or room for OQA. Longreach the size may be an issue and it’s a remote location so not as widely visited. Shame Western Sydney airport is so far from opening as it could be incorporated in and made a showpiece at the airport. Especially as they share the same namesake, Nancy Bird Walton.

I struggle to see why anybody thinks the A380 should be at a museum in Australia. The aircraft has no significant history besides being big, it's main claim to fame at QF is an accident, it hasn't pioneered anything historic at QF and it is a financial disaster for it's manufacturer.

The aircraft that have been recognised, the Connie pioneered long haul flying, the 707 pioneered jet age travel and the 747, well the 747 speaks for itself.

For the A380 fans, be grateful it's coming back at all, 12-15 months ago that didn't look likely.

QF432 MEL-SYD has been upgraded to a 787 from the 15th of November onwards.

Good opportunity to experience J class on the cheap if you’ve got QF points to burn.

Regarding the new airport, it seems like the consensus is cargo flights will be moving there, but is that official? I’m an intl cargo driver myself and our layover hotel is in the CBD so that’s great location. Due to the distance I doubt we will be staying in the CBD if our operation moved to the new airport. How long is the drive inbound at 5pm? I’d hate to be moved from the CBD to the middle of nowhere. OTOH we stay in the CBD for far out airports such as PVG and TPE so who knows.

Whilst QF have committed to BNE from WGA, I could see Bonza going to OOL from there 2 or 3 times a week, likewise Albury. CBR-CNS, CBR-MCY could also be opportunities. Hopefully they will look ay AYQ as well, a twice weekly service from SYD, MEL, ADL would be welcome additions there and provide some competition. These are the types of routed REX should've done, instead of taking on the big boys on their home turf.

I agree with your thoughts. Singapore Changi Airport comes to mind when you think of interesting things to see and do. Jewell is probably first and foremost a premium shopping experience, but it also has the beautiful centre and upper sections full of tropical plantings and the sensation you’re not even at an airport. Shame about the chlorine smell from the waterfall.

I always thought that QF could take a retired A380 to SWZ. Replace the engines with some sort of replica. You could have a wing walk experience, safety slides for kids to try, a Qantas museum on the main deck, and a Qantas cafe on the upper deck.

But I never see it happening.

Travel time from SWZ to the CBD will be at least 60 mins.

There is no guarantee that cargo flights will move, or even just some of them. SWZ will be a lot closer to the geographical centre of Sydney and will be close to major road transport links, so personally I can see at least some flights moving. There is room to build dedicated freight facilities for the likes of Fedex, UPS and DHL/Amazon and the 24 hour airport operation will be a major drawcard for freight movements. The domestic overnight freight movements I can see going there from day 1.

SWZ is not in the middle of nowhere ! Sure it's not the CBD and won't have the attractions at your doorstep, but there won't be a shortage of quality hotels either at the airport itself, or within 20 mins drive. Urban areas are within 10 mins drive to the north and east of the site and I would say by the mid 2030's the whole area will be built up around the site, though mostly business orientated. Anyway, you've still got around 5 years before it will be ready to receive the first flights, if you want to keep staying in a CBD hotel you may need to start negotiating now !

Yes there are other routes there could be Perth to Newcastle and Perth to Sunshine Coast. Cairns to Hobart. Melbourne to Mackay and Rockhampton a few times a week with the E jets. There seems to be endless opportunities across Australia with the smaller capacity and less seats to fill.
The 737 max is a big aircraft to launch your new point to point flying a big risk for Bonza better to start with a smaller plane on the unserved routes when opening up new markets.

There could also be some reverse tourist traffic to Albury as well. While Albury itself isn't an attraction, Beechworth & the King Valley wine area isn't far away.

Mildura could also do well for them, within a 2 hour drive you have the SA Riverland towns & Swan Hill on the Victorian side, so a reasonable catchment area (Melbourne-Mildura is a 6 hour drive). Mildura is also a popular foodie destination for Melbournians.

For those outside of Australia, there has also been a big population shift during COVID of people who are able to work remotely moving to regional areas away from Melbourne & Sydney. No doubt Bonza is looking to take advantage of this.

Nothing concrete that's been published, however, I have seen information where the 330-200 doing these have reduced seating (even below the intl seating config for the 332 on the qantas website). The current intl J seating for the intl 332 is at 27, this is going down to 26. I can also confirm that DEFG (centre) seats in rows 33-37 are gone (not blocked).
If you go through the qantas booking engine, specifically looking for the 332 you will see what I mean.
So I guess, something has happened, guessing some sort of crew sleeping pod, just not sure what is replacing, if anything in that void where those missing seats were.

On the A321 the best seat is row 12A or F as they have a window but no seat in front of them due to the pair of seats at the emergency exit doors. Bizarrely JQ’s booking engine can’t work this out so it’s not charged as an exit row either!

If you happen to have an equipment swap to an A320 row 12 becomes the exit row and you normally keep that seat too.
