Boeing 747 Classic (100/200/300/SP) Fleet Tracking Thread

Mon Nov 01, 2021 2:10 am

After contributing to the Boeing 747-400 Passenger Fleet Tracking/Retirements Threads (2017-18, 2019, 2020, 2021), I thought it would be good to do something similar for the classic 747s: the 747-100, 747-200, 747-300 and 747SP, especially given the last one built turns 30 this week.

The data for which aircraft are active is taken from Planespotters.net, cross-referenced with Flightradar24. Aircraft which are listed as active will be illustrated with the most recent photograph in the Airliners.net database, and those stored will be listed. If a stored aircraft has flown within the previous 7 days I'll make note of that. If an aircraft is stored but is reported as planned to become active I'll make note of that too, but won't list it as active until it is flying. This means some aircraft which may be being brought back to active status won't be listed here.

The following operators have aircraft in service:

Airlines
Aerostan
2 aircraft in service

EX-47001 23737/675 Boeing 747-222B(SF) - last flew CMN-SID 29/10/2021

92-9000 23825/685 Boeing 747-2G4B (VC-25A) - flight tracking data not available

VIP/government/military/special use operators with whole fleet stored
  • Royal Flight of Oman - 1 aircraft stored: A4O-SO (Boeing 747SP-27)

Summary
As of today, that gives us:
  • 5 airlines operating 10 aircraft (9 747-200 freighters and converted freighters and 1 747-300 converted freighter), with 1 more airline with 2 aircraft all stored (both 747-300(M)s).
  • 7 VIP/government/miltary/special use operators operating 15 aircraft (a mix of a 747-100, 9 747-200s and derivatives, a 747-300, and 4 747SPs) with 1 more stored (a 747-200C), with 1 more operator with 1 aircraft stored (a 747SP).

I was pleasantly surprised to see the number of 747SPs as a percentage of the aircraft in operation. I wonder how much longer the commercial operations with the freighters aged between 30 and 40 years will last - interesting to see all three engine types are in commercial service: JT9D, CF6, and RB211.

Couple of updates to the above.:
The FlyPro 742’s are active and traceable. Although the reg does not show up, just the airframe, the -243 is BAR & the 281 is BAT.
Also the USAF E4B’s are traceable and show up regularly… 40787, spends a lot of time flying between LNK and ABI.

To add to your list, theres another B747-246F ready to rock ‘n’ roll, ER-BAU, apparently freshly ‘D’ checked and yours for just $10m,
Have no idea who owns it now, or why she hasn’t been snapped up.

FYI, Fly Pro’s ER-BAT B747-281F currently out of JED and Eastbound over Nigeria at 30000ft , probably inbound CKY for fuel before heading down to Brazil.
This is common for this ship..

Wasn’t the Transavaiexport 743 EW-465TQ, in Maint. recently, and due back before the peak..?
And as Belarusian companies are under increasing sanctions, maybe they’re flying it out of a shell company in SHJ/UAE..?

To my knowledge EP-MND is being used for parts for EP-MNE and EP-MND is worn out.

Yes, they got a A342 and two B77Ws to replace their previous fleet of three B747SPs, two L-1011s and two MD-11s. After MBS came to power as Saudi Crown Prince, he purged a lot of his siblings, and relatives from the royal families payrolls. Many of them were imprisoned, banished or put on house arrests. Hence the fleet was massively reduced.

Worth noting, their Saudi Ministry of Finance and Economy fleet (3 B737NG and 2 B787) is also essentially belongs to the royal family.

I'd love to know if they actually scrap these planes or if they're just slowly wither away in some corner at JED. I remember seeing the L-1011s, MD-11, and SPs for years at LAX. Even the 707 came through in 1998. The old leader was here a lot. MBS, not so much.

I really like the new livery on those geo-sky 742's. Also, aren't they the ones that were retrofitted with duel fms's with a crt nav display between the pilots?

Saw that my post was deleted, but here goes again. Both HM1B/HM1C are currently stored in bad condition at JED. You can see them in Google Maps, at upper left hand side, corrosion corner with other retired/ abandoned jets. AIF is nowhere to be seen though, suffice to say, it has gone to scrapper.

For those who haven't been following the use of the 742/3 freighters like those of us in the cargo thread have been, you might not know that most/all of these great freighters are being maintained at GMF Aeroasia in Jakarta (airport code CGK).

We have watched the Geo-Sky ones, the Transaviaexport one, the Aerostan ones, etc., all rotate through there in the past several months.

GMF Aeroasia have really set themselves up as a place with continued tribal knowledge on how to heavy-check and maintain these aircraft, and they are busy! They also do heavy work on the AeroTransCargo and FlyPro fleets, bringing back long-retired freighters like the Thai Cargo 744 that sat in Pattaya for years and years. (We've also made our share of colorful jokes about that...)

Time for a weekly update. The is no apparent change to the aircraft in service, so I'll keep this one brief without photos to avoid flooding this page.

The data for which aircraft are active is taken from Planespotters.net, cross-referenced with Flightradar24. If a stored aircraft has flown within the previous 7 days I'll make note of that. If an aircraft is stored but is reported as planned to become active I'll make note of that too, but won't list it as active until it is flying. Info you have in the two Fly Pro ships is wrong.
They regularly pop up on FR24 and other tracking sites.
Easiest way to spot either of these in FR 24 is to just filter out the 742 aircraft only.
Everything is then traceable.
Although BAR & BAT ‘s registrations don’t show up with the aircraft , it can be worked out which is which by their respective Boeing customer codes.
Regularly seen refuelling in West Africa before heading to South America.

As for the USAF E4B’s they also show up by using this method on the filter, including the reg’s
40787 is common, and 50125 also pops up now and again. Haven’t seen the other E4’s for ages.

Hi TUGMASTER, thanks for this, and for your previous post. The issue is getting the history if they aren’t airborne presently. Is there a way to search that? That’s why I’d changed the wording from “last flew” to “last recorded on Flightradar24”. FlightAware gives a “this flight is restricted from public view” message for those registrations.

Hi VF,
I see what you mean.
I only look for them airborne, not their past flights, and unfortunately, I also use FR24.
Have tried with ADS-BExchange, but don't seem to have much luck with that.
Thanks for your input.
The only one I cant seem to find is ER-BAU, surely that should be flying, last known at CGK.
Cant see anymore 200's other than what you've mentioned ever getting airborne again.
Keep up the good work.

When was the exact last date that the Saudi 747-300 flew? I thought it was retired and replaced by the 77W? No?

Just for info, the regular ladies of the night have been doing their stuff very consistently.
Also, one of Fly Pro’s ,the 747-281F/ BAT is just completing a Macau -Colombo leg.
On the USAF front , 40787 was doing circuits at Andrews earlier, while longtime deserter 31676 left Lincoln Nebraska a couple of hours ago, did a few racetracks off of Corpus Christi & now heading further South in the Gulf of Mexico.
Way to go ladies..!!!!
Keep up the dirty work.!!

To add to the above there’s also a Geo Sky B747-236B(SF) from Frankfurt to Tbilisi. She’s 34 years old.

Yep, saw that, but I was referring to the Geo Sky and Aerotrans birds, as our usual ladies of the night… but well spotted .
The GeoSky ships nearly always run China-Tbilisi-Europe and vv Aerotrans a bit more eccentric , while the Fly Pros tend to live Macau a lot and end there journeys in Brazil, sometimes even heading over to Chile.
Usual refuelling is ACC or CKY.
If the Aerostans tend to use SID as the fuel uplift station if they’re heading west over the Atlantic.

Then using this information, I don't think it really should be considered on the "active" list anymore... That's from 2 years ago.... Man how time flies

In other good news, Transaviaexport's 743SF EW-465TQ has finally escaped CGK, and is currently heading north overhead Vietnam. By way of background, she was in MX for a period in MAR-APR, returned to service until ferrying back to our friends at GMF AeroAsia on 07/27, and has been there ever since. It was suggested at the time she was awaiting an engine replacement. Great to see the sole active 743F back flying!

Yes the other SP is parked at Riyadh-

Those two B747SPs are ex-Syrian Arab Airlines YK-AHA and YK-AHB, which went to Saudi Arabia for D-check, but were abandoned after the US imposed new sanctions on Syria back in 2011.

It would appear of one the Mahan 747-300s has changed owner, either EP-MND or EP-MNE is now YV3531 of Emtrasur Cargo.

Photo proof is over on a competing website (JP)

Google search for Emtrasur Cargo, indicates it's subsidiary of Conviasa:

EP-MND is listed as scrapped:
https://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b747-23413.htm

EP-MNE is still active with Mahan Air as per:

So likely EP-MNE?

Good to see a B747-300 becoming active again - but sadly, I bet it will be another shady cargo hauler for Venezuelan government...
