UA182 Diversion

Just was browsing FR24 and noticed this crazy diversion. Crossing over St. John’s on way to FRA from DEN and diverting to EWR. Any reasons?

SABRE shows diversion due to strong winds/rain.

Seems a bit weird to divert going eastbound, no? UA's flight status lists: "Aircraft maintenance inspection"

If something required for ETOPs failed (but not for flight in general), then a divert to EWR would make sense (change of aircraft/crew) vs landing in Canada.

ETOPs, or overweight landing, perhaps.

Whatever went wrong, the plane (N27957) stayed overnight in Newark and is now back in the air, flying as UA2741 from EWR to ORD.
