Kelowna Flightcraft adding to portfolio

Thu Dec 02, 2021 2:16 pm

Curious, about KF’s “resurrected” (if Greyhound Air can be considered) foray back into the charter market. The advertisement seeks flight crew for B737NG based in both Kelowna and Calgary.

Lynx announced last week for YYC, and now KF. Be interesting to see this all unfold in Westjet’s front yard, especially with the maintenance relationship between WS/KF.

I might be missing something, but I see nothing in here to suggest that this would even be a passenger airline, let alone one that would offer any kind of service that would compete with scheduled operators like Lynx or WestJet.

Especially with the announcement that besides the conversion work for AEI on the 734/738 to freighters, they're also adding 2 BCF conversion lines for the 738. Reading between the lines, it wouldn't surprise me they're taking a foray into cargo, and Amazon likes its 738 freighters south of the border with contractors (Atlas and Sun Country)

Or they could be operating on behalf of somebody like they did with Greyhound Air.

Could test pilots also be needed?

In the job description it describes it as being a charter airline. With Flair now almost entirely separated from Flightcraft and out of the charter market, perhaps they see a need in the future for another charter operation to take on DND, sports, conventions, etc. Could perhaps see a mixed fleet of pax/cargo 738s to cater to a new cargo customer. Or, with their maintenance relationship with Air Transat, could provide Western-Canada based aircraft to support irregular ops.

This seems like a very low risk venture with potential for decent margins. Flightcraft already has most of the infrastructure in place and has an extended history in the charter market. BL, Tracey and team are well known to take a slow and methodical pace to growth opportunities with limited risks. They are also known for hideous paint schemes (Kelowna Flightcraft Charter Ltd.).

Indeed.

New Charter Airline

KF Aerospace is excited to announce the introduction of a new charter airline in early 2022, operating B737 Next Gen aircraft from crew bases in Kelowna and Calgary. KF’s illustrious history spans over 50+ years of global aviation experience and adventure, perfectly positioning us for this next chapter in our Flight Operations story.
