Icelandair new livery

Sat Dec 18, 2021 5:16 pm

Icelandair will be rolling out a new livery starting in January. Aircraft will feature six diverse colors drawn from Icelandic flora and the northern lights.

The last brand refresh at FI was in 2006.

Really awful and basically the same as Lufthansa, SAS, Qantas, aer lingus where the tail colour is stretched down on the rear fuselage
Why does every airline have to use the same theme?

Hopefully the Hekla, Flag and Glacier 757 liveries will continue though ? I think this could work, the 737 Max "interim" livery is truly awful but I can't help thinking they could end up looking like a sub brand of Ryanair with this new scheme. Gonna have to see better renditions to be sure.

not a fan of this look. :shakehead: Maybe at least paint the engines to match the color of the tail highlight rather than always blue? Might not make much difference but it's something

Painting the engines with the same highlight colour as on the tail will look terrible when they need to swop engines between aircraft.

It is of course a new livery and therefore guaranteed to meet with instant A.netter disapproval.

I like this. Sure it mimics some other recent livery changes, but they've kept the logo and the use of color other than navy blue and white is a nice touch. Varying between a light blue, yellow, and pink stripe on each aircraft breaks the monotony.

I can confirm Hekla, Vatnajökull and Þingvellir will stay as they are. Given the imminent retirement of the 757 in the coming years it is not guaranteed the type will ever receive the new livery.

I agree that the livery fits the 737 much better than the 757 in the rendering.

Pick one color for that stripe. Preferably yellow.

Yes, whilst a nice idea, look at the state of the Aer Lingus fleet already. Barely a correctly matched cowling to be seen.

Looks like Icelandair went to Earl Scheib and asked for the "Lufty Upgrade Package."

Not necessarily, sometimes an airline manages to hit the sweet spot with a new livery. Not this one though, it looks too cheap.

Not too bad? Honestly at first I thought it was Wizzair with that blue and pink. The billboard letters make me think of Ryanair.

I can see why Icelandair needs a new livery but they could have done better than this. It's not exactly an improvement.

The F on the tail will make normal people think Finnair. (I know it's been there before, but it used to be yellow and actually say Icelandair under the logo).

The billboard titles will not be readable from a window at the gate.

It looks cheap.

Really cheapens the brand but I think it's inline with the bigger move to make Icelandair more appealing to the leisure/budget traveler, as class as the previous scheme was, it was rather formal

In my opinion, Iceland has one of the most interesting flags in Europe, with well-balanced colors, and yet, they never used it to showcase the colors.

The livery is just another billboard title with "something" on the tail.

Icelandair could have been the Fiji Airways of the North, design-wise speaking.

Well to be fair it is completely all over one 757-300 currently.

I like it. Like the idea of different variants. Doubt many will confuse it with Finnair, especially with the worlds biggest billboard titling. The engines look a bit dull, maybe a logo or strip. Where are all the naysayers that insisted no pending refresh? Lots of money spent (and ‘need painted anyway’ doesn’t wash) when they are predicting losses. Will look great on a A321LR ;)

What a fail and missed opportunity. The current one looks classy. This one looks like a flying billboard. Ugly ugly ugly. And now I’m still NOT a fan of the latest Lufthansa livery so I’m convinced the new Icelandair livery won’t grow on me either.

A gentle reminder that they've seen fit to replace this livery twice now.

I don't see why, it's modern, clean, fresh, professional-looking, fairly distinctive and quintessentially Nordic.

Yikes...

Can you guys read what it says on the side of the plane? Why not make the font just a llllittle bit bigger. And when you get rid of the iconic colours it looks like Finnair's F on the tail all of a sudden.

This also explains TACV's choice of changing up the colours with each aircraft.

Amazon Airlines? I would not distinguish this among the many brands.
Current/previous version was unique and elegant, IMHO.

At first glance, these colors are bringing back memories of Delta's Song experiment. Sadly, the folks at FI have now fixed a problem that did not exist.

Looks fine, they clearly are going to a more budget business model anyways so it fits the bill. I like the variants of the accent stripe and the relationship with the northern lights. I think that's quite clever. No one is going to think this is anything other than Icelandair, the name takes up most the plane regardless of what's on the tail, not to mention Europeans are familiar enough with the brand and Finnair (which looks nothing like this) brand to know better. Honestly I'm just happy the current MAX livery is heading out because that's the worst scheme they've ever had.

It's better than the livery applied on the Max. But I don't like the yellow and pink version which are indeed to Ryanair and Wizzair looking and don't remind of northern lights.

Only the light blue variants are good looking.

A swoosh or logo next to the titles. The now previous one was one of the liveries that could stand the test of time.

Children designing/colouring would be very creative. It’s the adults, especially the bean counters that have lost all sense of creativity.

Like others have said, more yawning Eurowhite. Even though Ryanair have billboards they have a decent non-Eurowhite livery.

Actually I like this. the varying colors reminds me of Braniff and mexicana (?) whose fleets had various colors.

The stripe specifically. After all, the aurora is various colors, not one ;).

Having said that, if they also paint the aurora logo the same color as the stripe that would be AWESOME as it imitates the color changes of the real thing.

The real Braniff would have never ever called a single horizontal stripe on Eurowhite “flying colours”.

Heh, oh I know. It’s not the same. I do like that element of “what will it be next time”, sometimes.

Seriously though. Various aurora logo colors would really make it.

This. I think the tail is kind of neat but the huge titles just scream ULCC.
