I've tried to catch up tonight, as I've taken some general notes over the last few weeks, but there may be some things that I have missed. Would not have caught N683BR's departure without Spacepope pointing that one out. 2-GATE has been flashing its transponder a ton lately, so we will have to keep an eye on that one. After filling in the registation "649FE" (without N) at the folowing link you can see the (structural, mostly corrosion and damage related) repairs that have been completed (last entry April 8th 2022)

According the latest info, FedEx MD11F, N649FE, is scheduled to enter service at the start of August 2022. (Aug 8th)
When N649FE is near complete, N647FE will be the next to be moved out of the desert, probably scheduled to become active just before the peak season 2022.

OB-2059-P: Was the workhorse of the group but has been idle for a while and soaking up sunshine on the Miami ramp.
N805SJ: The latest Southern California built quad to resume service. Operated out of San Jose to Miami in mid July. Kicking back with OB-2059-P since.

Today is Aug 5th. Is there any latest news about N649FE? I saw that 649 was still parked in LA. The last update date of the repair records on SDRS was April 21th.

I'm guessing the latter, which I think could look nice.

Very interesting - thanks for sharing! I do wonder if there really are issues with the IAI conversion.

We're 5 months past the anticipated roll out date. The silence is telling IMHO.

As an initial analytical effort, I might check my premises.
That said, if it was done in Porto Alegre, it would have been done at VEM (Varig Engineering and Maintenance), which was for a long time the most-important MRO in Brazil, and one of the most important in Latin America. When Varig went under in 2006, VEM was acquired by TAP, and called TAP M&E Brazil. There were two facilities, Port Alegre and Rio. They closed Porto Alegre in 2018. They just now are closing the Rio facility because it loses money even though it does a lot of business. VEM apparently did do some conversions.
An interesting little history of VEM: https://varig-airlines.com/en/vem.htm

I don’t believe the Rio facility is truly closing as United is taking ownership after TAP vacates.

Does anyone know who it was that would have converted the aircraft? Looking at google maps there doesn't seem to be anyone active at Porto Alegre who would be able to convert a wide-body, so I assume that the business is history. There is an abandoned looking hangar though. Does anyone know how many 767s they converted? Did they convert -300s as well?jbs2886 wrote:zkojq wrote:Bluebird Nordic had taken delivery of three 777-300ERs, which were to be converted to freighters, but all of them have been returned. To be clear I don't think any of these 777s were ever flown to a conversion center and I am fairly certain that no metal was cut, so to speak. I think they all are in Teurel? But your point definitely stands. The certification hold up certainly means that a lot of 777-300ERs will be in limbo for a while. Presumably it's the lessor that bears most of the risk in this situation?
Anyway, GTLK is sanctioned I believe, so 777 conversion woes are probably the least of their problems at the moment.
