There's only one frame left to deliver.
Would it be possible for the moderators to keep this thread open into 2023, just renaming it into "-2022-2023" thread, rather than go through the whole
1)lock 2022 thread
2) open 2023 thread
3) lock 2023 thread upon last delivery
process?
Otherwise yes, a bittersweet moment. Beautiful airplane rolled out, iconic building to be repurposed after that, people who'll have to find other things to do, then build 747's
Done. Please use the reporting function the next time.
First;
To SQ22 . . . I understand what you're getting at from the moderator point of view, but his time . . . it's just . . .different. Phosphorus said out loud what we all were thinking. So thank you for granting the request.
Second;
To 747classic . . on behalf of all of us 747 fanatics, thanks so much for the detailed posts you have provided over the years. Thank you for going above and beyond doing what you have done for us 747 A.netters. Thank you for keeping the fire for the Queen alive even when it was beginning to fade for her.
Simply thank you for everything.
Kindest of regards,
PC12Fan
Finally . . .
Long live the Queen of the Skies!!

WestWing wrote:Matt Cawby on his blog has posted a snippet of an audio exchange related to the first flight. It begins with one of the test pilots telling the Boeing Everett frequency (an internal company frequency - not the FAA ground/tower) that BOE704 is airworthy. What is the significance of that phrasing? Is this a formal declaration required from the pilot in command that in the pilot's opinion, based on all the paperwork the manufacturing and flight preparation team has given the pilot, that the aircraft is considered airworthy and thus can be released to fly? Thanks in advance.
RobK wrote:All the new build aircraft make that call on the company frequencies immediately after take off - it's usually "we are airborne and airworthy". Sometimes there's a short delay between announcing the "airworthy" part after the "airborne" bit. No idea why. Maybe listening to see if they can hear any loose nuts and bolts rolling down the cabin.

However, as of January 2023 it is still sitting at Marana-Pinal Airpark. Any idea when Atlas will take delivery of it?

So sad they didn't do at least a small insignia or something to acknowledge it

When I had visited the Museum of Flight airpark a long time ago, all the large aircraft there - including RA001 - were out in the open and so it was possible to take an aerial photograph of the collection. The RA001 livery was badly faded when I visited. It now looks like the RA001 livery has been restored and all the large aircraft are under a constructed cover - looks like the change happened sometime after 2015 - so I don't think there is a possibility of capturing RA001 from the air now. A.netters who are local to the Seattle area / BFI may wish to weigh in on this, please.

Yes it's under cover as are Air Force One, Concorde, a 787 (I believe it's ZA003) and a few others. RA001 went through extensive refurbishment while the enclosure was being built because as you say, it hadn't aged well out in the elements over the years. I can't confirm this, but I seem to recall that there are plans to eventually add walls to the canopy and truly enclose the display area.
Join us in bidding farewell to the #QueenOfTheSkies on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 1 p.m. PST in a live webcast of our final 747 delivery celebration. #ThankYou747

Darrell Marmion […] was named 2016 Boeing Engineer of the Year for his work on another 747 project: figuring out what to do about dripping moisture in the passenger cabins of German airline Lufthansa’s fleet of new 747-8 jets.
Over two years of troubleshooting, his team worked out a solution and modified all 19 airplanes.

Lufthansa added humidifiers for the First Class and Business Class cabins so this is likely related to those systems.
