Until Concourse A is completed I don't see a lot of mainline adds. Peak times in the current set up seem to limit such adds. I could be wrong about this but looks tight when there's a mainline at each C jetbridge.
Everything else appears to be sticking so far for summer 2022 (temp 2x ORD-BOI).
Bummer... was hoping to see more mainline flights and the A320 would have been cool, since BOI only sees their 737s. The decision makes sense though.
I feel like if AS really wanted/needed to add more mainline flights, they could make it work. There are a few underutilized gates in B that they could probably use when needed.
I think I saw an A320 added to BOI-SEA.
I think all the B gates except 14/16 are leased/owned by a specific airline. I could be wrong. So I don't think they really have anywhere to go outside of C. Considering the somewhat strange set up for United, I suspect no one wants to move or share.

Yeah, it is a strange setup. Never understood why United didn't just take 14, since they use more regional jets than AA or DL. Instead, I feel like 14 is typically used by DL for some of their E-Jet flights.
As for AS, I think they could use 16, since I am pretty sure it is only used by G4 a few days a week. I bet they could work something out with AA to use 19 when needed, since that gate is fairly underutilized. No doubt it's going to take a lot of creativity until concourse A is built. Reminds me of the early 90s when airlines were doubling up until the Concourse B extension was finished.

I am not an insider. I suspect beefing up current destinations and upgauging. I really don’t know where else there is to go in terms of new destinations.
Maybe Allegiant throws in MCO or someone tries Hawaii. I’ve seen a lot of skepticism on the latter but given the increasing wealth and continued arrival of Californians, I suspect Hawaii will be a realistic add in a few years or less.

Delta and Southwest also use B16, I feel like.
I assume there’s some liability perhaps when sharing gates if one airline has the rights to it. I don’t know the politics of it all. I also hope they renumber B when they remodel because it drives me crazy right now haha.

According to the news release, the new Concourse A won't be complete until 2026. Seems a long way off, but then again, they have a lot to get done before they can build it. Curious if we see designs/bids for the new rental car facility late this year, with construction beginning some time next year. It also says A will start as a 3 gate concourse (designed to be expanded to 12), but I'm thinking that will grow by the time they actually get around to building it.

That it starts with only 3 gates makes me wonder if those 3 are the runway-facing gates and part of the rental car lot will stay in the interim as the rental garage gets built. Not sure if that's possible.

Most of the destinations that NK would be serving nonstop from BOI already have nonstop service out of BOI on AS, G4, or WN.

Wednesday/Saturday through the summer, then moves to Thursday/Sunday for the remainder of the schedule period. While this is a shift from LAX, it is an overall increase in service with more than just summer seasonal currently scheduled. Previously LAX would only run until around mid August.

Alaska is starting BOI-BUR as well on 7/22 with a Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat per Alaska’s schedule.
The second AS BOI-ORD flight added for peak summer has been removed. Back to 1x daily.
DL appears to have 2x daily BOI-ATL with 739s.

LAS-BOI will be pretty full at the end of the summer when NK starts their daily flight (daily?!). Hopefully AS can retain some of their loyalty for their operation, otherwise I feel like that will be the first carrier to blink. LAS is a fairly low yield market to start with and with Allegiant and Spirit both trying to fill an Airbus on somedays- fares are going to be in the toilet. That said AS is working to build their already decent sized presence in BOI, might be a market they operate just to have available. Perhaps flow a few connections from GEG or IDA.
Odd to see a single flight from a city for Spirit, I wonder what is coming down the road. The west coast leisure markets follow a pretty clear pattern though, so likely Southern California and maybe Phoenix.

The fact that AS service from BOI to LAS is on an E175 and they have invested a lot in the Boise market makes me think they will hang on. I mean they seem to be holding their own in markets like ORD and PHX despite having competition. Small plane, daily service, connection opportunities (I remember seeing a story on how the IDA and GEG flights are timed around this) and the only chance at an upgrade will help it.
WN loyalists will continue to fly them, so they'll survive. I think the loser here will be either G4 or NK. Without a quick expansion, I see NK as the odd man out.

As far as Spirit goes…having one flight a day to a decently served airport is interesting. I’m sure they can fill seats well enough, but not sure it will be worth the cost.

Interesting about WN cutting back on LAS... I didn't realize that. I can't figure out what WN's strategy is for BOI. They really do seem to be all over the map. LAX seems like a given route for them, but they've stood on the sidelines while AS, DL, and UA seized that. I wonder if G4 has slowly won over travelers who used to always look to Southwest in the past.
It will be interesting to see if Spirit's name recognition makes things more difficult for G4 with price-sensitive customers or if they are just late to the game.

It certainly does seem odd for them to build up in cities like EUG, BLI, and BZN- yet cede ground in BOI.
I have no evidence to substantiate this opinion, but it seems like they do struggle in heavy AS cities. Southwest's SEA operation is tiny considering the size of the market, perhaps BOI is experiencing the same type of thing now that more of the major markets from BOI are served nonstop by AS.
