Except now the employees are fighting back; so, it's time to stop those numerous flights between city pairs using uneconomical planes and consolidate/upgauge. Or cancel service altogether.

That's great for the consumer, just cancel service, especially to small markets with no other option.

Well, there are some markets for which air service is not sustainable by itself. People chose to move to a certain area; air service is to be considered during such move.

Most people in those areas didn't move there - they were born there.

Looks as if the existing SCOPE clauses in US North America were far more than Mitsubishi and Embraer bargained for.

Glad to see SCOPE restrictions inadvertently or intentionally encouraging the development of more efficient aircraft such as the aft fuselage mounted turboprop 70 seater, Embraer is studying to go forward with.

Well I have talked about the A220, but if it was the ERJ E2? Or probably Airbus had also sent an A220 to Kigali

This morning the Tech Shark new Profit Hunter E190-E2 was in Kigali and it made a demonstration flight (with the Rwandan press on board and thus the removing of the article on The New Times Rwanda?)

Wait and see. In 2012, Bombardier sent a Q400NG to Rwanda and RwandAir immediately placed an order.....

Air Madagascar: Demonstration flight of an Embraer E 190-E2, a new DG for Madagascar Airlines

Slowly but surely, Air Madagascar continues its march towards recovery. The next step for the national airline which operates through Madagascar Airlines may be the operation of an Embraer E190-E2.

According to flightradar24, the E2 left TNR this morning flying to the North.

And in a move to a sustainable relationship, Air Peace and Embraer signed on February 23 during the MRO Middle East event in Dubai a long-term services agreement to support the airline’s E195-E2 and ERJ 145 fleets.

Source:
https://embraer.com/global/en/news?slug ... -e2s-fleet

Excerpt:
"Dubai, UAE, February 23, 2022 – Embraer announced today, during the MRO Middle East event in Dubai, that it has signed a comprehensive long-term services agreement with Air Peace, Nigeria and West Africa’s largest airline, to support the airline’s E195-E2 and ERJ 145 fleets. The contract includes access to the Pool Program, which includes component exchanges and repair services for hundreds of reparable items for Air Peace’s Embraer aircraft, and the installation of the Ahead-Pro (Aircraft Health Analysis and Diagnosis – PROgnosis) in the airline’s E195-E2 fleet."

Air Peace has 13 firm orders for the E195-E2, with purchase rights for another 17 aircraft of the same model. Five aircraft of the 13 firm orders were delivered in 2021, with more deliveries scheduled for this year.
Air Peace still operate eight ERJ 145 jets.

It seems Air France will order 35 to 50 E2-190 for its regional carrier HOP! .

The link is in French only, but I guess updates in English will be available shortly.

"Also according to Les Echos, the order with Embraer would still depend on the acceptance by the different categories of employees –
pilots, flight attendants and ground staff – for the new safety measures and costs of hiring a different model of aircraft.
Formal negotiations are due to begin in the next few days to try to reach an agreement, and the final decision could come in the next few months."

I don't see why they wouldn't ...

Hop!'s current fleet, including active and stocked aircraft, comprises 15 E170 and 19 E190 jets,
in addition to the 14 CRJ-1000s (that will be retired throughout this year), making a total of 48 aircraft.

"Even before the COVID crisis, the last restructuring plan ended up with a 40% reduction of the Hop activity operated for and under the Air France name, with a fleet reduced from 69 to 32 frames. The last voluntary staff reduction plan, signed in July 2021, ended up with 1,007 departures over a 2020 staffing of 2,400 employees"

40% reduction of activity, 42% staffing reduction, and asking for more concessions? This will not go easily, especially in an election year, and for a company (Air France) that is still considered as a representative of the country.
This order will most likely happen; but doubt it will "in the next few months"...

Is HOP! scope-limited? Some reason(s) AF wouldn't just buy more A220s? Do the phrases 'fleet simplicity' and 'economies of scale' not translate into French? :D

They also already operate a large Embraer fleet and I'm sure they have done the numbers about a possible switch since AF has A220s and Cityhopper has E2-190s

You really didn't answer why they wouldn't take the benefits of fleet simplicity and economies of scale. In what ways/missions is an E2-190 superior to an A220-100?

What better fleet simplicity could there be when.
they literally already operate Embraer E-Jets
    have crew fully trained already
E2 and A220 share what is essentially the exact same engine
Already have valuable data on the E2-195 with KLM Cityhopper operating on similar routes out of AMS and can compare with current A223s.

To answer your latter question, the A221 is bit overbuilt to be a constant regional aircraft. The E-Jets are lighter while being more than capable to operate the longer stages. You can see this playout in the real world if you look at how airlines are operating the A221, the best comparison I can make would an A319. That isn't an aircraft I would consider to be close to a regional jet type.

The E190E2 is slightly smaller than the A221, lighter, and cheaper. If you purely want a regional 100 seater and nothing more then it is a better option. HOP! doesn’t need the A221’s range or takeoff performance, is a separate airline from AF so gets no crew benefit from AF’s A223s, and doesn’t need larger planes (b/c of AF’s A223s). Remember AF/KL already have E2s (E195E2s) over at KLM CityHopper- this isn’t a new type for the group.

Hop! signaled this was coming when they announced they were retiring all CRJ1000s this year a few weeks ago. The reason why they decided to focus on just the E190 is obvious: because of the E2.

AZUL (AD) regularly operates at the central airport of Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont (SDU) with both the E1 and E2 versions.

There are two parallel runways 02R/20L 4,340 feet (1,323m) and 02L/20R 4,133 feet (1,260m) which are very short and therefore the largest aircraft using the airport are the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320 series. The airport has a little over 400 flight departures a week for domestic and short-haul destinations.

The runways has the Rio de Janeiro - Niterói bridge at one of its threshold and the Sugarloaf Mountain at the opposite one.

Embraer's E190-E2 jet has just completed a three-day - April 12th to April 14th - demonstration tour for representatives of the Vietnam aviation community.
With stops in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao, the plane demonstrated its fuel efficiency, low noise emission and great performance on short runways.

The E-Jets E1, which has been operating in Vietnam since 2020 through Bamboo Airlines, has improved regional connectivity,
establishing a direct connection between Hanoi and Con Dao and deploying the first jet service from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Dien Bien Phu.

From the source you cited above:

"Furthermore, Newsaero reports that the Congolese government has already paid the first $14 million owed to Embraer for the aircraft.
Despite this, its national airline may now be preparing to shelve the deal in favor of the Airbus A220.
Additionally, ch-aviation also reported last month that Congo Airways had chosen not to extend the leases on its E190s borrowed from Kenya Airways."

They have 2 190-E2s at the Embraer factory since 2020 ready to be delivered and they have never secured the financing credit from the banks or leasing institutions...

Excerpt:
The aircraft manufacturer Embraer and the engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney announce this Thursday, June 30, that they have carried out a successful test with the GTF engine in the E195-E2 aircraft using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF acronym). in English, Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
The test, carried out with one of the engines using 100% SAF on the plane that has the beautiful “Tech Lion” livery, proved that the GTF engines and the E-Jets E2 family can fly with both engines with up to 100% SAF, without compromising safety or performance.
The aircraft completed two days of ground testing at Fort Lauderdale International Airport, later resulting in a further 70 minutes of flight testing at Vero Beach Regional Airport in Florida.

Many of the sales campaigns are discussed in the A220 sales campaign threads, several are A220 vs. E2:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1468483

Going from memory, the active competitive campaigns of A220 vs. E2 from that thread are: LOT (likely postponed due to Ukraine war), SAS, AeroMexico, Vietnamese airlines, Bamboo airlines (Rumor favoring E2), and Turkish (although rumors are that they already chose the A220). Was Porter the last E2 win?

- Luxair, they don’t operate E190’s? - unless it’s a sublease?

Really hope Embraer redesigned the cockpit seats. Otherwise, welcome Porter pilots to your new life of chronic back pain!

That's the first time ever I hear this kind of complaint...

Hello British Airways

Hello KLM Cityhooper

E195-E2 makes debut touchdown at London City Airport

Source: https://embraer.com/global/en/news?slug ... ty-airport

Excerpts:
"London City Airport, United Kingdom, 22 July 2022 – After departing the Farnborough Airshow, Embraer’s latest aircraft, the E195-E2, made its debut landing at London’s iconic City Airport (LCY); demonstrating the aircraft’s steep approach capability. The visit, in anticipation of the aircraft’s certification for steep approach into London City at the end of this year, included ground handling tests and other preparations for the aircraft’s first scheduled flight into LCY, expected shortly after certification.

The visit demonstrates the importance Embraer places on being able to offer LCY capability to airlines with the E195-E2 - the E190-E2 began operations into LCY with in September 2021. The airport is a vital component of London’s wider connectivity, and Embraer aircraft are uniquely able to manage the challenges of LCY operations; Embraer aircraft account for 85% of all LCY operations on routes as diverse as Edinburgh and Mykonos."

Porter has added an additional 20 aircraft, bringing the total to 50+50. These additional 20 are not from the options according to the Toronto Star.

So the 195E2 is okay for LCY but the old 195 isn't?

They're quite different aircraft, for a start the E2-195 has taller landing gear with different geometry (as does the E2-190) to accommodate the bigger engines. With a new wing, and a reshaped tailplane. The differences are more than a straight NEO/Max re-engine.

The E1 was not really designed with LCY in mind, it was not certified until years after service entry as a result of the BA Cityflyer order. Given its dominance at the airport, I would expect LCY considerations were more prominent in the E2 design.

First E195-E2 to be delivered to PORTER AIRLINES,
msn 19020067.

PORTER AIRLINES has placed a firm order for
30 units with option for 50 more.

Recently at FIA 2022 added 20 more units,
totaling 50 firm orders and 50 purchase options.

Turkish is considering E2s

Bolat added that the carrier is also in talks with Embraer about adding its first regional jets. However, any such step would be contingent on the manufacturer offering extensive maintenance support for a relatively small sub-fleet.

Here's the transcription of what Türkiye Hava Yolları Airlines' CEO said about their regional fleet:

https://www.airdatanews.com/turkish-air ... r-e2-jets/

In an interview with the Sam Chui, Ahmet Bolat, president of the carrier, revealed that the company is negotiating to operate between 15 and 20 E2 jets, but expects a broader proposal from the Brazilian planemaker, which even involves the aircraft crew.

“Bring the aircraft, the pilots, bring power-by-the-hour maintenance, then I take the aircraft. Such an offer I would consider,” said Bolat. The chief executive argued that it was impossible to create an entire infrastructure to support the planes, which would affect the commercial operation, considered marginal.

Turkish also says it is studying financial leasing or wet-leasing, with the provision of full service for the jets."

Can Embraer/Airbus deliver airplanes, pilots, FAs, mechanics and all the logistics for an airline? Have anybody seen such a such a business plan before ?

On the other hand, Embraer is vying for an order such as this one, I wonder whether they have a pool of E1 pilots that can be trained to fly E2s with Turkish.

SalamAir, Oman’s Low-Cost Carrier, Selects the Embraer E195-E2 for Next Stage of Growth

Excerpts:

Istanbul, Turkey, October 6, 2022 –SalamAir has signed a firm order with Embraer S.A. (“Embraer”) for six E195-E2, with options for a further six aircraft. The E195-E2, the quietest and most efficient aircraft in its class, will be delivered in a comfortable dual class configuration with 135 seats, beginning at the end of 2023. The deal, which will be added to the Q3 backlog, is valued at US$934.6 million, at list price with all options exercised.

The Muscat based low-cost carrier has opted for the E195-E2 to join and complement their all Airbus narrowbody fleet for the benefits and flexibility right-sizing provides; protecting yields while growing frequencies, and developing new markets and city pairs profitably.

Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir, said, “The aircraft will grow to be a core part of our fleet portfolio. It is exhilarating for us to be the first airline in the Middle East to fly the incredible E195-E2. Embraer’s aircraft represents the best environmental efficiency, operating performance, and passenger comfort. The aircraft’s sophisticated aerodynamics, novel wing design and new technologies enable its exceptional energy efficiency. These aircraft are perfect for the next frontier of our growth. They will allow the airline to open new local and regional cities and increase its frequency to these destinations due to its fuel efficiency and capacity, which suits the needs of these markets. The new fleet will be used on domestic flights initially, including the 4 oil fields and 4 international airports within Oman, as we receive more aircraft we will be able to use them on regional airports in neighbouring countries which today are not connected to Oman.

Love the colors by the way ...
