Most likely. The last 4 789 Polaris mods were temporarily paused to allow them to operate the May/June schedule with the PW 777s still OOS.

Pretty sure that those are done if not approaching the last units.

That's correct but there only doing them 1 at a time because instead all the rest of the slots are taken up by 772s desperately trying to get fixed and put back into service.

In progress in XMN:
N24973

still need to be done:
N27958
N35953
N38955
N45956

The hope is that there done by July but they now have slowed down a bit. In other news, the last 763 entered HKG for Polaris and re-entry into service last week (N657UA).

For the next two days it will be operating LAX-DEN-IAH-DEN-LAX (Flight #s 371, 1645, 2647, and 633). Oddly enough, the only 777 pilot base in that pattern is IAH.

772:
772A N212UA in LAX today, 1st flight 371/21 LAX-DEN, next two days LAX-DEN-IAH-DEN-LAX
772A N778UA 2691/21May VCV-SFO, after ferry to ORD, 1st rev flight 2492/22May ORD-DEN
772ER N223UA 2692/21May VCV-SFO, 1st revenue flight 1128/22May SFO-EWR.
It looks like 2 to 3 hour flights, except plus a transcon.

5 unites left, one of them undergoing the upgrade at XMN.
The other 4 are heavily utilized on LH routes where UA is selling PE.

With my luck I will end up on one of those (I have 2 trips = 4 fights booked in PE on 789s through the end of July)

dlphoenix,
That probably depends on your destination as the 4 Diamond units seem to be flown on SFO and DEN to Europe plus occasional DEL and SIN flights. Of course, that could change with Summer schedules and maybe 1 or 2 more in mod. A while ago, some domestic legs were being flown with these units, but with the 772PW units returning, I'd expect the 789 will not fly so many domestic legs unless scheduled positioning flights for maintenance.

Any idea when ETOPS gets allowed again? Wonder what they’re waiting for on the ETOPS side of things, the previous failures weren’t to the level of the PW1100 losing its ETOPS.

I can't remember but the FAA is requiring something like ten domestic segments or ten days of flying before they'll sign off on ETOPS for each aircraft. Makes sense and hopefully all goes well so we can get these back in the schedule.

With a pretty large number of 777s that are back to the fleet: where are they going to fly all these airplanes? My understanding was that they planned the Summer season without them? Or have they expected them to return and planned with them?

There was a comment in the network thread about how leisure travel booking is gangbusters and planners have having to be careful not to sell out so there's something left for close in travelers. I imagine the Pratt 777 return to service helps that. Cascading upgauges through the network with the freed few dozen smaller gauge aircraft adding frequency here and there.

The summer season was planned with a number of them (not all) returning to service. That’s why the June schedule was blown up a few weeks ago with the PW 777 heat exchanger leak inspection AD came out, delaying reentry for a few weeks.

From the stats I've seen on another site, EWR-MCO is possibly the 2nd largest PDEW market in the US in recent months,... right behind JFK-LAX. It's bigger than ORD-LGA and LAX-SFO. UA's June sked currently shows 8 narrowbodies.

Really goes to show how much business travel hasn't recovered, and the so-called revenge leisure travel is absolutely driving current trends. It's incredibly fascinating to watch.

Do the United 737 MAX 8 and the retrofitted 757-200 have the same exact screens? I am not able to tell, they look similar but something looks like they are different.

How did UA keep all these 777 pilots current over the past year? Loads of sim time or did they just spread out the existing 777 flying among the entire pilot group and make up the pay difference with minimum pay guarantees?

Are the MAX screens bigger? What is the size of both of these screens?

And for the different screens in United's heavies, what are they?
(One is the one on the 767/787-8/787-9(older)/777-300ER)
(The other is on the 777-200ER/787-10/787-9(new))

777 staffing has been kept artificially high for quite a while. Most just end up on reserve earning minimum guarantee and going to landings every 90 days.

We have been told to expect a very 777-centric vacancy bid sometime in June to increase staffing for the return of these aircraft.

I agree! Thank You. Looking at my home airport IAH/HOU it looks like for June the only domestic widebody turns are EWR: 1x777(GE), 1x764, 1x763 DEN: 1x777pw SFO: 1 way SFO-IAH and a 1 way IAH -LAX 777PW. It looks like the SFO 777 runs SFO-IAH-DEN and the LAX one goes DEN-IAH-LAX.

They are both the same size, however, the ones on the MAX aren't fixed (they have the tilting mechanism), and also have the bluetooth capability.

Delta had their entire airbus fleet retrofitted from the old NW cabin to the pretty swanky delta cabin at SAL
Jetblue had Phase 1 and 2 done at SAL
American had Oasis done at SAL

So if anything... this could be the first A320 to be NEXTified? Unless it just goes in to get that 4th row of first class UA announced years back?

Didn’t they walk that one back? Didn’t they either say (or maybe it was just reported in here) that they decided to only add a row of F to the 319s?

AFAIK they announced both the A319 and A320s getting an extra row at the same time, but they never went through with the A320 fleet, so I'm not sure what ever happened there, they sorta sweep that under the rug after that. TPG said A320s would be retrofitted in early 2020, and we all know how anything early 2020 went.

Interesting...I thought the 738 or 739 with space bins would go in first.....less work.

Speaking of the 77A, do you guys think they are going to get retrofitted? Theoretically it makes sense those get IFE first as they fly 8+ hour flights, but if they are on their way out, maybe not.

Speaking of the A320, I'm hoping for:

- Same seat (but a bit wider) as the 737 MAX 8, Same IFE
- Airbus XL Bins
- 3 New Lavs
- New Seating configuration 16F 54-60Y+ 72-78Y (if they decide to add more first class)
- New LED Mood lighting (unlike AA)
- Airspace Cabin Panel (I'm just dreaming lol...no way but that would be cool)
- New Paneling

Make the plane look brand new!

Exactly...that's how I remember it, and I also think someone on here confirmed that they decided to cancel (or indefinitely postpone) the A320 reconfiguration. I suppose it probably at least makes swaps a lot easier with the same size F cabin on the 319 and 320. In any event, it'll be interesting to see what that bird is doing in SAL.

It also makes me wonder what the big order of MAX's and non-XLR 321NEO's will utilimately replace if 25 year old frames are getting the Next treatment.

I remember the 320 reconfiguration seemed a bit odd as there was no seat loss in the back. I can't find the seat map, but recall pitch wasn't equal on both sides of the aisle. I believe the F pitch went from 39 to 38 or 37 and E+ from 35 to 34, but not enough to retain all the Y seats. It could have been one row at the exits had windows removed to really cut the pitch on a row.

In any case, UA will probably need an STC on the reconfiguration, so it probably wouldn't cost any more to add the F seats.

United’s nearly 100 Airbus A320s will jump from 12 seats to 16, meanwhile, matching the airline’s Boeing 737-800s, with reconfigurations beginning in early 2020. Interestingly, United’s managed to adjust the cabins by maximizing underutilized space, so the total seat count will remain unchanged, with 39 Economy Plus seats and 95 in regular coach.

So if anything... this could be the first A320 to be NEXTified? Unless it just goes in to get that 4th row of first class UA announced years back?

No NEXTified, just HV MX. June 1st start.

Anyone know the story with N35953 in India? Diverted to Ahmadabad on Sunday and has remained there since. UA83 is showing a delayed departure of 23 hours. Maybe diversion because of weather and crew timeout? Can only imagine that being pretty rough for the passengers.

Its replacing RJ's and possibly the 752's, but it is also for fleet growth, UA has the smallest nobody fleet out of the legacy's.+ WN.
