I’m surprised at how good the AA interiors look. We’ll see what gets cut from the final product (like the lighted, sculpted panels on the 777-300s in Polaris that never made it to the 787s).
What does this mean for Polaris? I know doors are rumored. Looks to me like UA’s product is still competitive.
Polaris has been rumored to be getting sliding doors at some point in the future. Aside from that, I wonder if we'll see UA do anything to update its premium economy, or even its domestic first seats to be more competitive with those of Delta's NEO.
I just flew 7 segments in Polaris on a 767 and one 73M-9 in just 4 weeks. It seems to me that with everything now unveiled and in many cases flying for a few years old now, it is allowing other airlines like AA (and DL) to surpass Polaris and domestic First from a hard product pov. (Agreed that Polaris is still a great hard product) but after having 7 flights with the LED lit bulkhead sculpted design it is disappointing that UA decided to eliminate them. They are not just beautiful but they work extremely hard BRANDING the Polaris cabin and adding to its ambience. I cannot image they have much of an ongoing cost, so financially it’s mostly a one time cost. They really should retrofit the rest of the fleet with them now.
I loved my 737MAX-9 First seat, that special recline trick of the forward sliding seat goes a very long way to actually feeling “reclined” without taking up extra inches. Question: do the PP seats have that “articulated recline” as the domestic F seat has?
Under the banner of “keeping up with the Jones’” would UA actually change their extremely recent PP seat? UA used the exact same seat as DL, why wouldn’t they one-up the features of that seat vs installing a “on par” seat?
It is obvious to me that PP has a huge future and I bet we will see larger PP sections as many fliers are willing to pay the premium (I would kill to know how much revenue a PP section brings in!?!)
United has also unveiled a new palate of colors but has only used purple. I personally think that UA’s larger PE section should have used (the aqua or other) color on the headrest…not only would it have made for a happier feeling in EconomyPLUS but also showcase how big the EconomyPLUS section is!!! IMHO!
Last question: on very long haul flights (9-18 hours etc) does UA hand out a mini amenity kit?
I think the amenity kit in their PP cabin is a very nice touch.
One of the smartest clients I ever had once said “never underestimate the power of something “free”- I think EconomyPLUS should get a MINI amenity kit on a 15 hour flight! (Eyeshades, ear plugs, toothbrush, socks, tissues and postcard - the basics) I’m sure the mini amenity kits given on transcontinental flights likely cost UA about .20¢ a unit!!!
