IATA warns of airfare impact as high jet fuel prices push up airline operating costs

Excerpt - "Speaking during a media briefing on 25 January, IATA director general Willie Walsh noted that fuel prices were “significantly higher than our last forecast in October last year” in the first weeks of 2022, just as airlines are also facing higher labour costs amid the staff shortages being seen in economies around the world.
IATA data shows jet fuel at $101.1/barrel on 21 January, against its October forecast for the same date of $77.8/barrel.

Shock. Horror. Funny enough when everyone else is dealing with high energy prices.

There isn't enough LNG import capacity in Western Europe to effectively mitigate natural gas price hikes (nor prospective market manipulation by a certain supplier), but the tanker capacity available for oil and refined products means European Jet A prices are very much in line with world prices.

Interesting that on January 21 jet fuel was .03 USD less in Amsterdam than the US ($2.49 vs $2.52). Prices have risen since then as Brent Crude approaches $90 USD per barrel (42 gal). It's up 1.87 % today

In the States, United and Delta based their 1Q2022 results on a fuel range from $2.35 to $2.50. What would be the number that airlines would need to see to begin measures to reduce fuel usage?

The whole oil market is manipulated by suppliers as well. We're going through an engineered energy crisis with the airlines barely being able to recover even without it
