The Qantas brand is utter trash. They have burned all of their goodwill, and unless something starts changing yesterday then they will never recover their tarnished reputation. The actual LCCs offer a far superior product these days, and the OTP data spells that out in black and white.
Have just completed another visit to Asia that involved domestic services as well and yes, QF have some major issues
Baggage services are a real worry. In both Sydney international and Melbourne domestic, luggage took over 40 minutes after arrival before it started appearing in the baggage halls. Something is very wrong. I fear it is cost cutting gone one step too far.
Cost cutting has also made Qantas’ SYD terminal transfer a terrible shambles. On the way up, we were told to go to Gate 15 for a transfer bit when we got there, there was a sign that there would be no transfers for the next 45 minutes. This was untenable so I went out to get the T Bus but it didn’t arrive so I ended up sharing a cab with 2 other frustrated travelers. On the way back, it was no better. We had to wait 20 minutes for the bus to depart and then we were stuck on peak hour traffic because the transfer from international is no longer airside
The combination of slow luggage arrival, terrible terminal transfer and long security queues in T3 meant it took nearly 2 hours after landing in international before I was through security in QF T3. For an alleged premium airline in a so called world city, that is pathetic.
The QF customer facing staff continue to be top notch but,I fear management has lost sight of what it takes to be a good airline. They risk becoming the inverse of how Eddington described Ansett and will be known as a good business but a ordinary airline.
