IL-62... current interesting routing

There is an IL-62 a long way from home right now. Flew Libya nonstop to Bridgetown Barbados onward to Venezuela and now Mazatlan Mexico.

Looks like Rada airlines which is Belarussian cargo airline I believe. There's a great video of one of their Il-62's clippping trees on take/off literally rotating at the very end of the runway at Nis in Serbia (8500 ft long).

Belarussian cargo flying Libya - Venezuela - Mexico. Who would think this is a flight for smuggling drugs, weapons or dirty money? No, let's think they are subcontractors of Santa Claus delivering joy to the children of the world...

No one is smuggling drugs to Latin America so we can cross that off the list for starters

Not an expert, but I assume they don’t just abandon the plane at the end of the route, and will instead turn around and head back to Europe…

Somebody wanted to pay an awful lot of money to keep something secret. Something that needed to travel fast.

Alternatively, the people paying for the trip are under sanction right now.

So to summarize, it flew cargo from Libya to Mexico (via the Caribbean and Venezuela) and now on its way back again thru Venezuela to wherever via Morroco. Certainly not for humanitarian relief..

EW-450TR Has not flown since early this year, it's airworthiness certificate ran out around this time.
EW-505TR is the only one flying at this time.
EW-564TR (ex C5-RTG) has not been seen since it's transfer from Banjul via Djerba to Vitebsk last August.

Fascinating airline!

After stopping in Casablanca a few weeks ago, she flew on to Ahmedabad, India. Looks like she just left Ahmedabad and is flying west. I can follow her on FlightRadar24 by tracking "IL62".........
