Delta 762's

Sat Apr 20, 2002 5:59 am

Are there plans to repaint the Delta 762's into the new livery? Things seem to be progressing well with the 763's. I have yet to see any picture on the database with a Delta 762 in the new livery. Any info. on this from you guys up in ATL?

Also, some of the original 762's and 752's in Delta's fleet are approaching 20 years of age. Are there any future plans to replace these birds? Any thoughts on what they might be replaced with?

"The Spirt of Delta" which is a 762 recently went, or is scheduled to go down to the paintshop soon.. so I would take that as a yes- they are going to be repainting the 762 fleet.

And Delta has still been taking delivery- at least last year- of new 752s, so I'd guess they plan to replace the old ones with new ones- but thats just a guess since they had been buying new ones recently. Wasn't Delta the largest North American, or worlds largest operator of the 752 before the AA-TWA merger? Or near it?

You need to look harder--sometimes what you're looking for will be in the database.

I remember that when Delta first ordered the 767-300s they talked about stretching the 200s already in the fleet (they had already done this with their Lockheed L-100 freighters). Was this seriously under consideration?

There is no firm business plan by Delta, Boeing or any third party to under take a 762 to 763 stretch program.

I have a hard time believing that the small incremental revenue of such a stretch would cover the capital cost & re-cert of a 762-->763 stretch. The DL 762's are also quite old....nearing 20 years in service, which would reduce the ROI oppy.

IMHO.

I'm sure there are no plans now to stretch existing 767-200s but I distinctly remember hearing of such plans back in the 80s. Does anyone have more info on this?
