Heathrow airport Monday blues.

Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:07 pm

Around 30 flights carrying up to 5,000 passengers have been cancelled at Heathrow Airport due to technical issues affecting baggage.
The airport asked airlines to cut 10% of flights from schedules across terminals two and three on Monday.

Only gonna get worse over the summer. :(

The baggage issue was yesterday - since fixed, although the backlog of delivering baggage to some passengers remains.
Other airports having bigger issues - no pax flights outbound at BRU today as security staff are on strike.

Relative of mine travelled to LHR last week. Bag not delivered due to a tight connection. 48 hours never delivered to his hotel so he went to Heathrow to take matters in to his own hands. Some people in similar situations were waiting hours at the baggage office just to be escorted to the storage area. He finagled his way more quickly, to an unsecured area with hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of bags for anyone to steal just sitting in the open, he felt it was 100% clear that the airline (Delta in this case) had absolutely no process in place nor tracking of the bags to ensure smooth delivery to the passengers hotels/homes/accommodations. Many people will never see their luggage again, particularly if they are travling onward from London, as he was the next day. He said there was so much baggage he felt lucky to even see his bag.

Moral of the story-- Apple Airtrags if you must check your baggage. Or even if you don't, never know if you'll be in a forced gate check situation as he was, on his originating flight.

This can't be a one day affair.

Having your luggage properly labeled with personal contact details should be what everyone ought to do.

If your home address is publicly available on the Internet because of regulatory reasons (eg you are a director of a company in some countries), it's a great way for telling thieves which home to target

lost luggage with BA leads to things like this. I assume Heathrow because she is living in London.

Went through T5 last night at LHR with no problems, not even queue at the passport machines, although I only had hand luggage.
