What are the plans for Airwork (NZ) two 757Fs?

Mon Jul 04, 2022 3:53 pm

They were acquired earlier this year and are currently stored at GYR.

Earlier this year? I saw them parked at AKL late last year. Was the acquisition only this year? What are they doing at GYR is a good question. I was wondering, with news that Airwork have acquired at least 1 A321, perhaps they've had a change of heart and taken the plunge to standardize their trans Tas / mainline fleet on the Airbus. Kinda fits in better with where most of the airlines in the region are heading.

Could acquisition be linked to the 2x RNZAF aircraft? Spares for RNZAF? Possible sale of RNZAF pair to Airwork? RNZAF pair replaced by newer aircraft discussed on PM's recent US visit?

These were already owned by Airwork and were lease returns:

I suspect their reported A321 purchase is also for their leasing arm.

On the linked data I used, it wasn't visible that they were in fact leased to Olympus at the time they came to New Zealand before heading to GYR.

I get a bit confused by airwork, they have aircraft leased to several carriers, some 737s in Toll colours, others with Parcelair, one of the 757s was used by FedEx in 2021 and was based in AKL, not sure I even realised it was an airwork aircraft.

Are the 757Fs to be used for the FedEx flights announced earlier in this week, between Sydney/Melbourne and Auckland/Christchurch?

Some of the 757s were lease returns from Russian carriers. They were flown to GYR and stored after returning to Air Work. If memory serves me correctly, 757 maintenance can be performed in GYR....

I don’t think so, last year they used 1. I think it is MEL-CHC wasn’t it they announced? Pretty sure it is a 737 they plan to use.
