Interesting comments from people on that site.

They best keep his name out there though - plenty of examples of people without licenses getting caught flying esp after a crash.
The guy who swiped the Q-400 is the worst but plenty of others have crashed without active licenses or ratings.

I'd say that's the least of his worries.

Article states he was flying Kansas City-Florida, isn't that waaaay outside the range of what a student pilot is allowed to do? I thought student pilots were limited to 50nm from home base airport.

Would any of the offences be more of an issue in Missouri than in Kansas or Florida?.

The link below is a July 14th flight of Ace Judson, the student pilot who was arrested the following day for intoxication after running out of fuel and landing on Interstate 70. Of course Ace Judson isn't his actual name, but upon a review of his cross country from Missouri to Florida and back, whatever flight instruction he may have absorbed still remains open to question. Likewise his navigation skills were also open to conjecture as was his altitude management. Along the way, he undoubtedly flirted with IMC and healthy summer thunderstorms with tops above 40,000 feet. In the end one must acknowledge that he did survive aeronautical stupidity, despite demonstrating airmanship and basic judgement that made Colton Harris Moore-- a teenager without flight training who, in 2010, stole a Cessna 400 in Indiana and flew it to the Bahamas-- look like Chuck Yeager.

Jeez, just looking at the history on the plane - must have been flying nearly nonstop for 24 hours. Let Kansas city at 3am, and went to Florida and was nearly back at 2:30am the next day.
One heck of a bender.

No doubt inspired by fellow drunk pilot, Tom Fitzpatrick who accomplished a far more difficult landing, not once but twice.

Apparently the content is missing.

Is that the guy that stole a plane twice and landed in Manhattan?

Funny how most of these sort of events are captured on video nowadays

A Johnson County man who was arrested after landing an airplane on a Missouri highway earlier this month has filed a court petition challenging the revocation of his driving privileges.

An attorney representing John Seesing, 35, of Prairie Village said the Missouri State Highway Patrol improperly stopped and arrested Seesing and didn’t have reason to believe he was flying under the influence when he landed a plane on westbound Interstate 70 near Oak Grove, according to a petition filed Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court.

Seesing claims that he did not refuse a drug or alcohol test, according to court records. The petition says Seesing’s driving privileges are scheduled to be revoked in Missouri on July 30. Seesing petitioned for and was granted a hearing on Aug. 25 in Jackson County court to challenge the revocation.

He was arrested July 15 on suspicion of being intoxicated with drugs and alcohol when he landed the plane on I-70 just before 2:45 a.m., said Sgt. Andy Bell, a spokesman for the highway patrol.

He was also arrested on suspicion of DWI, careless and imprudent actions that involved a crash, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the arrest report.

No charges have been filed.

He has a long and colorful driving record. He also doesn't seem to want to take accountability of any of his actions.

Private pilot here. It depends; for my first solo my CFI instructed me to stay within gliding distance of the rwy in case of an engine out. Then on my second solo he had me stay within, I believe, 20 nm of the airport. Later, when it came time to do my XC (cross country) solo, I had to fly segments that were over 50nm each to be counted as XC solo flights as part of normal private pilot's license training requirements.

In any case, the CFI had to sign his permission for the solos in my log book. No CFI in their right mind would send a student pilot from KC to Florida. I have a sense that the CFI signed him off to do solos on his own (which can legally be done), but with reasonable restrictions, such as staying within 50 nm of his home airport...or if it was a XC solo sign off, it most likely would've stipulated the airports involved (and even then, most likely within 200 nm or so from the home airport), with diversions allowed only for weather or emergencies.

Also a private pilot here, and I fly out of MKC. Trying to figure out why a student pilot was flying solo at night. As far as I know solo flights at night are prohibited by student pilots.
