Hello,

I´m starting this thread because I´m always curious to know how the teams travel from point A to point B. What kind of plane they use, which company, etc.

At this stage of the competition, Champions League and Conference League, there are some less know teams competing and should be interesting to find how they travel to play their games, for example, how do a team from, let´s say Kosovo travels to..... Iceland for example.

I think you got the picture, so I would ask for your colaboration on any information not only from European Competition but also from other continents and of course, the World cup, or the women´s Euro Cup in England.

I'll join in on the fun with an obscure one. Europa Conference League's second round qualification, first leg is tonight and I've been following some of it. Wales' The New Saints are in Reykjavik to play Vikingur and it looks like they'll be headed home after the match on a KEF - LPL routing on a 8W Dornier 328-100, registration D-CITO.

As the Worldcup in Qatar is nearing, I was wondering which airliners/aircraft will bring the national teams to Qatar. Any information is welcome.

But please, this is no place for political/religious discussions about Qatar; only post relevant info about the flights, right?

Germany's team will travel on Nov 14th on a LH A330 to Muscat/Oman for the final training camp and thereafter to the tournament to Qatar.

I know the Brazilian team will be training in Turin and then head to DOH from there. Not sure which charter they’re taking or how they flew to Italy from Brazil.

Aerolíneas Argentinas announced that an A330-200 (LV-FVH) in will fly from Buenos Aires to Doha via Rome for the team and fans.

AR seems to be the only airline to have a special livery for the 2022 World Cup. Understandable given the circumstances.

Here's a good post about how teams flew to Russia in 2018. It would be a good indicator for what to expect for Doha. All charters except for South Korea who flew on a schedule passenger flight.

From the teams that qualified to 2022, here's what they used in 2018:

I can see most reusing their flag carriers to fly them to Qatar from their home country, but with a long haul aircraft. The rest just chartered VIP aircraft or from other airlines so they will do the same most likely.

Why is a sport that uses hands and passes called football? I call American football, "American Passball." Anyone who calls football, "soccer," does not deserve to have their team win the World Cup.

From the teams that qualified to 2022, here's what they used in 2018:

Teams that use a charter aircaft:

- Tunisia on a Rossiya/Aeroflot 737-800 (VP-BOB)

Tunisia uses Tunisair Flag Carrier A320 TS-IMP for Russia

For Qatar, they will use A320neo TS-IMX

The US coaching staff and MLS-based players flew NYC-DOH Wednesday evening. The only nonstop commercial flight timed for their departure would have been QR702 JFK-DOH. Idk if they took that or flew on a private charter, though. I imagine that Europe-based players will be flying to Qatar individually after their weekend games.

D-AIKQ, an A330-300, has received the special Worldcup stickers and will be flying the team tomorrow to Muscat in Oman for their final trainings camp.

Canada is having a pre-tournament camp on Dubai. They assembled a North American based side, and flew YYZ to DXB on a regular scheduled EK flight. The European based players will likely just make their own way to DXB to join them for their friendly with Japan before moving over to Qatar for the start of the tournament.

No idea how the Australian soccer team will get to Doha but the ME3 seem to have transported many national sports team flying through to Europe lately.
Qantas of course seems to have a monopoly on Olympic teams (except Sydney 2000 = Ansett was the sponsor and the Olympics were in Australia anyway lol)
How many Qatar planes have special World Cup 22 markings in total?

Not World Cup exactly but I found it interesting Bayer Leverkusen flew commercial FRA-STL for their friendly against St Louis SC. Just assumed it would be a charter.

Not really since the plane won't be seen in DOH. The flight with the German team is the FRA-DXB flight, which will make a stop today in MCT where the team will hold the training camp.
From there the team will use a "local carrier" (I assume either QR or WY) to fly to DOH.
Not sure what the travel plans are for the way back. That might be the only possibility to see that plane in DOH, whenever that will be.

Let's see whether LH will use the plane with those stickers on their regular routes to the Middle East (DXB, RUH, IKA and others)....

They flew a chartered QR 77W. GIG-TRN (flight qr7315)

Visit in DOH of this particular plane is not really off the list since LH has scheduled flights to DOH during the World Cup with 333.
Also, the team will be flown back by LH; so there it is another chance too.

England are going to be flying into DOH on Virgin Atlantic's G-VPRD aircraft, named Rain Bow.

England’s World Cup squad are expected to fly to Qatar tomorrow on a plane called “Rain Bow”.

Part of the Virgin Atlantic fleet, the Airbus, also features a cartoon figure of a man holding a union flag and wearing rainbow-coloured trainers.

The aircraft, chartered by the FA, has a registration number GV-PRD an abbreviation of ‘Pride’.

While the FA did not ask for this specific plane, they are understood to be perfectly happy with it being used.

It will land in a country where same sex relationships are a criminal offence; a law that has meant many fans from the LGBTQ + community have decided not to travel.

In 2010 and 2014 Oranje traveled via CDG to South Africa and Brazil. From Brazil they arrived at RTM with a (all business class?) 762 (ZS-DJI). So choosing La Compagnie isn’t that strange at all.

Berhalter said something about leaving around 1am at the roster reveal event so it was probably AA120.
