I remember that documentary on WN back in the late 2000's decade where they talked about hedging and how much it saved them...then they interviewed AArpey, who had a really smarmy remark when asked about WN's hedging "When their hedging runs out, the field will then be even."

Yah...still hasn't happened. Good job WN...keep up the good work!

It's almost like the people running the airline know how to run an airline. LOL.

Congrats to them on making a profit despite a challenging year.

Just imagine, a company that has a good plan and great execution of the plan. If there are any US airlines making money that year, one will be WN.

I smile every time I see SWA leading the pack in profitability.

Good numbers. Great margin. That pile of cash puts the JetBlue purchase of Spirit into perspective.

Maybe they’ll do that when they restart DAL-OKC. :duck:

Shocking that a company which does not try to be everything to everyone can succeed, right? They understand their niches very well and usually execute well to meet their customers' expectations.

Not going to happen until there are more gates at DAL. I think that happens towards the end of the decade since the only thing AA wants less than more gates at DAL is WN with 50+ flights at DFW.

Hedging is a form of self-insurance. As such it has its costs as well as benefits. Look at it as a tool in management's toolbox. It is not done as a profit center, rather as cost control.
