CPT? Given that UA just “announced” it although we knew it was coming. Don’t know if CPT is a resumption though.

If it's a resumption, is it really that "big"?

Here's a fun idea: they make a go at ATL-DEL.

My guess is that unless China - US relations go "back to normal", probably not. It's probably CPT, my comment about DEL was made as a joke.

Just one AFAIK, and we have a bingo in one of the comments above. And considering it’s a net addition to ATL on a WB, I’d call it a win.

Most likely formally announcing ATL-CPT.

Are we only looking at ATL? Rumblings about LAX-PPT being finalized and starting in December.

I’m not sure DL has a suitable plane to operate that route when you take into account Russian airspace avoidance.

I would LOVE an India route from ATL on DL. But, like Polot said, Russia/Afghanistan airspace restrictions make it hard. But ATL-DEL is a good bit shorter than ATL-BOM/HYD/MAA so if anything maybe DEL will happen first.

My personal guesses are

- CPT
- additional frequencies to LHR/CDG/FRA/big cities in europe

Personal wishes are

-BOM or DEL (MAA in my dreams)
- Return to DXB

EK (or DL resuming ATL-DXB) actually seems somewhat possible, but I think most of Oceania is very far of reach for most anything in DL's fleet. ATL-SYD is a good 15000km which is about the range of an A350-900 but if winds change, I think that could be trouble. Not to mention they can't carry with full payload or any meaningful cargo.

LATAM I wouldn't count out either but I think DL may want to see how JFK-BER does before thinking of ATL.

It could be a big resumption, like ATL-DXB (which would certainly be "Big") or ATL-BOM which hasn't operated since October 2009. Don't think the latter's likely because of Russian airspace.

Here are my guesses in order from most logical to least logical:
-DL ATL-CPT
-DL ATL-TLV
-DL ATL-AMM
-LA ATL-GRU

UA announced IAD-BER in October 2021 before they resumed EWR-BER in March 2022

I think the "announcement" meant "resumption" so I don't know if ATL-CPT was ever operated nonstop before, so I don't know if it's that. Certainly could be ATL-TLV because that did operate before (and could still make sense). I'd say latam is more likely than AMM because Royal Jordaninan is Oneworld and DL would have no partners in AMM.

Guessing off of "resumption" my main guesses are ATL-TLV or DXB, and to a stretch BOM (but that is arguably the least likely). CPT is happening but it might be separate from this.

Interesting. Is there a reason they want to fly it on their own metal versus AF's existing LAX-PPT service? Shouldn't the DL-VS-AF/KL JV cover LAX-PPT? Doesn't make much sense to me...

Very much hoping for ATL-HAM but I doubt this would be considered a "big" announcement. Would still make sense for Delta ...

Yes ATL-STR will restart in March (initially planned for this October). No mentioning of DUS at all ... But there is no law that says DUS has to return at all only because it was served before COVID. I can absolutely see new Destinations ...

A Friday announcement is typical for DL since they load all of their schedule changes over the weekends and typically issue press releases in advance, otherwise all the internet sites and bloggers would “break the news”.

Fwiw there is a lot of stuff out there that DL hasn’t exactly gone big on PR that’s resuming in 2023. Like ATL-STR, DTW-FCO.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a packaged summary of a bunch of route resumptions for 2023.

This is my thought too. I don't think it's only going to be 1 route announcement from ATL. It seems like it'll be a packaged deal with a big press release. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

what about the ill-fated previous attempts at ATL-EDI… summer only 763 lots of connection opportunities? could maybe ditch BOS instead.

When did DL last fly ATL-HAM? I remember flying it in early 1998. 767-300ER, of course.

I don't even know what would properly count as a 'big' announcement at an airport the size of ATL. Routes come and go all the time.

DL just isn't huge in Germany, although they are adding BER back apparently.

Definitely true comment on what is "big" for ATL? IMO, ULH or even anything other than short-haul and Europe. So I'd say South Africa or Asia (unlikely tomorrow) could be big. TLV, possibly.

Hamburg is a cool city. But it hasn’t sustained a US carrier since well before the pandemic, so I doubt this would make sense.

Going with ATL-TLV considering there's been a lot of US adds to TLV in recent years and ATL is not among them (yet)

CPT was served via DKR back on the 763 until sometime in mid-2009.

https://www.aviacionline.com/2022/02/de ... cape-town/

I believe you're right - likely CPT considering that:

In a tentative ruling, Delta and United have therefore each been allocated three weekly frequencies between the US and South Africa, thereby allowing them to launch their respective ALT-CPT and IAD-CPT routes.

CPT 90 percent if not higher likelihood. For kicks with latam jv bsb and Mao. Which I believe were both previously served from atl.

Agreed but I don't think nonstop ATL-CPT was ever a thing. AFAIK it was from their short lived hub in DKR before they got the 777-200LRs.

In the current political environment, a "big" route announcement for ATL would be something to sub-Saharan Africa. I don't think ATL-LOS is coming back anytime soon due to issues with convertibility of naira, so it would seem ATL-CPT is the logical answer.
